After weeks, he'd felt like he was ready to try and return to normal. He leaves Norimune, returns to his place in Shuten territory, and resumes his usual habits of doing odd jobs and getting into fights for money. He stops to take a break, grabbing an onigiri and some tea from a konbini. He doesn't even notice that someone is nearby...)
no subject
he now stands before his dear friend; the mild annoyance in his tone and that frown are unlike yuuji. it seems someone is still bitter about that incident. it didn't help that hizen didn't care enough to explain himself the entire time. ]
So ... Megumi told me a little assassin dropped me a visit the other day.
[ 'little'. that's right, he said it. ]
no subject
... Did he just call him little.)
Stuck around for a bit but had to leave. (He says like he didn't plan to leave exactly when Yuuji arrived.) Didn't tell me you had friends staying with you.
no subject
[ while the situation didn't really beg for yuuji to be upset, but for some reason, he seemed genuinely annoyed by it. others might find it as innocent bickering between friends, and in any given situation yuuji would've found it amusing—
guess he still hasn't recovered from last month, huh. ]
I don't know. [ he shrugs. ] I didn't think it was something important to share ... ?

But when he decides to scout his apartment, Hizen knocks on the balcony window instead of the door like a normal person,)
Oi. (And he isn't very polite about it either,) I - ta - do - ri.
(Let him in.)

But he does have a feather duster and he WILL use it to smack any potential thieves. They do not have a lot of money and he does not want to part with any of it.
The mention of Yuuji's name, at least, does clue him in on the situation. ]
May I help you? [ Hizen will run into a tall boy who is armed with a cleaning tool. ]

Tch. (He sucks on his teeth,) He has friends...
(Of course he does. Annoying. This is why you always case out a place before doing any hits. Never know if someone might actually have a family, friends, or annoying little dog to complicate things,)
Where's Itadori?

He's at work right now. He'll probably be back in half an hour. Are you ... here to visit him?

I think I recognize that voice.

The rain had ruined a huge portion of Hizen's wardrobe and he now has to use his new raise to update it again. The fact that it's summer and hot and miserable just makes clothes shopping even more annoying right now. If he could have it his own way, he would just go to another second hand shop and buy more second hand clothes but... after months of hearing everyone talk about their clothes and how important it is to look nice, he's venturing out of his comfort zone and trying to find something nicer.
He can be found in one of the department stores in Sutoku territory. The employees greet him with high pitched voices and circle around him, asking him if he needs any help like they've been trained to do. )
No.
(Yes. He needs help. He needs so much help. But like hell he's going to ask for it. He feels so stupid. This should be easy. Everyone makes it sound so easy. But the truth is... he has never had to really shop for his own clothes. He's never had to think about things like style or fashion. He has absolutely no idea what he's doing. Are these prices even worth it? He doesn't know anything.
He pokes at a rack in the athletics wear section. Why would he spend over 2,000 yen on a hoodie when he can get a perfectly (used) fine (worn) one from the recycle shop for a fourth of the price... )
2,000...
(Is this normal? (It is.))
no subject
Not that the offerings here have impressed him much, though he'll grudgingly accept that he needs more casual wear for days off. He's in the middle of idly leafing through the rack of athleisure wear, debating whether or not he really needs comfortable clothing, when he spots a surprising figure in the quiet mundanity of the flickering fluorescent lights of the department store. ]
Ah -- Hizen? [ He looks well. Kim had figured as much after the generous offer he'd made over the network, but it's not as though he had showed his face. He leans over, glancing between the expression of consternation on his face and the hoodie he's eyeing as though it may come alive and bite him. ]
2000 yen is a normal price for something like this, yes. Any cheaper, and you'll be sacrificing quality. [ He reaches out to rub his pointer finger and his thumb, testing the sturdiness of the fabric. ] Considering what we put our clothing through here, I wouldn't scrimp.
no subject
It's all just gonna get messed up anyway.
(But he shifts awkwardly now that he's been caught in an unfamilair situation. Aside from the Daitengu's funeral and maybe a few other times he's been on official Shuten business, Hizen has never really dressed nicely in Jigoku. It's always been worn out hoodies and faded t-shirts with scuffed up jeans. He's very much been dressing like a boy who doesn't care for his appearances and yet... here he is.)
What a pain...

Mr. Hizen, welcome. What brings you in today?

Some oni leave first followed by a few miscellaneous youkai. They chatter about the fight they just saw and tease each other for losing bets or buying drinks for everyone after. Trailing behind is Hizen who is definitely both one of the smaller and most obviously human-looking members. He hooks his tie with his finger and loosens it. One of the friendlier oni asks if he's going to meet them at a certain bar and Hizen shakes his head no. He lies and says he has work to do.
And when all of the ranked Shuten officers make their way to the elevators, Hizen makes his way towards the stairs instead.)
no subject
He's almost ready to give up when Hizen emerges. It's not that Kazuma is scared of youkai, exactly, but he knows they can be volatile and that he's at a disadvantage. Much safer to risk the ire of a fellow Soul if he can.
It helps that Kazuma is already loitering around the area of the stairs. He raises a hand to grab Hizen's attention as he approaches.]
Excuse me, sir. I have some questions, if you don't mind.
no subject
He sighs to himself and looks to see who it is,)
What d'ya want?
(He isn't exactly polite when he answers but... he does stop walking and give Kazuma his attention. He taps the handle of his sword athis side impatiently, though.)

(Stardust in the air and feeling significantly more tolerable of the crowds as a result, Hizen goes to the central square where everyone is hanging their wishes. After some time he decides to give in and hang his own wish. In small, neat writing he simply writes,)
(He sets out to find a place to hide his wish. A tall branch or one crowded with wishes so no one can see his would be best. He finds a branch that reaches up high and he raises a hand to bring it down. As he reaches out, he finds himself stretching to reach over another wisher. He isn't very tall and to be honest, he's standing on his toes a bit to reach so its not like he can totally avoid them he just mumbles a quick--)

Her other wish? To find true love, of course. Love, the one emotion she had put all of her hopes onto. Her salvation, what had kept her going so far- The thought of love. The idea that no matter how awful things could get, she would find someone who cared for her and would be with her even in the darkest of times. She was smiling to herself as she hung that wish on a branch. She didn't really believe in such superstition, but when you were desperate, nothing seemed too unbelievable.
And then she heard someone apologize as they reached over her to put their own wish on. ]
It's alright, no need to apol- [She turned around and froze when she noticed it was a young man seemingly around (maybe) her age!] ... Um, a-apologize.
[ Holy heck, had the stars granted her her wish? Sure, she wasn't superstitious but bumping into a dark and mysterious boy that looks straight like he's one of the routes in an otome, right after she put her wish about love up? That couldn't be a coincidence!
Yeah, she's staring. She may need a minute or two to realize she's let her facade slip. ]

Instead, he finds himself being stared at and he stands a little straighter, almost defensive, and asks suspiciously,)
What?

(The lights of the underground shimmer, the stardust glimmers, and there's just something in the air that makes the crowds both more tolerable and not.
He keeps to himself when he can but he doesn't mind as much when people come into his space. Maybe it's just the festival mood, he thinks. It's enough to make even a prickly person like him want to enjoy the night a little more. When he's alone though, he finds himself glancing at the sky and... ugh, he doesn't know why but every time he does, he feels a small pang in his chest. He wonders if Sensei and Mutsunokami are--
No, stop it, it's not important, he tells himself and he finds himself looking down at the sheets paper in front of him, each one crumbled up into little balls or scratched out with pen. He's tried to write his wish but has struggled to get the words out,)
Everyone makes it look so easy...
no subject
but, that was neither here nor there. this place has its own intrigue, including from the individuals that seem lost in their own thoughts.
he sees a similar person struggling with the sheet of paper in front of them. he supposed there was something somber about the mood around them, or maybe he was simply projecting from what he's seen thus far, either way— ]
And you are finding it difficult, I assume?
no subject
He slams his hand down on the little make-shift tabletop he has going on and... misses a significant portion of the wish. His hand just covers part of it and a small bit of it can be read. Fingers covering part of the unfinished wish,)
