The rain had ruined a huge portion of Hizen's wardrobe and he now has to use his new raise to update it again. The fact that it's summer and hot and miserable just makes clothes shopping even more annoying right now. If he could have it his own way, he would just go to another second hand shop and buy more second hand clothes but... after months of hearing everyone talk about their clothes and how important it is to look nice, he's venturing out of his comfort zone and trying to find something nicer.
He can be found in one of the department stores in Sutoku territory. The employees greet him with high pitched voices and circle around him, asking him if he needs any help like they've been trained to do. )
No.
(Yes. He needs help. He needs so much help. But like hell he's going to ask for it. He feels so stupid. This should be easy. Everyone makes it sound so easy. But the truth is... he has never had to really shop for his own clothes. He's never had to think about things like style or fashion. He has absolutely no idea what he's doing. Are these prices even worth it? He doesn't know anything.
He pokes at a rack in the athletics wear section. Why would he spend over 2,000 yen on a hoodie when he can get a perfectly (used) fine (worn) one from the recycle shop for a fourth of the price... )
2,000...
(Is this normal? (It is.))

Not that the offerings here have impressed him much, though he'll grudgingly accept that he needs more casual wear for days off. He's in the middle of idly leafing through the rack of athleisure wear, debating whether or not he really needs comfortable clothing, when he spots a surprising figure in the quiet mundanity of the flickering fluorescent lights of the department store. ]
Ah -- Hizen? [ He looks well. Kim had figured as much after the generous offer he'd made over the network, but it's not as though he had showed his face. He leans over, glancing between the expression of consternation on his face and the hoodie he's eyeing as though it may come alive and bite him. ]
2000 yen is a normal price for something like this, yes. Any cheaper, and you'll be sacrificing quality. [ He reaches out to rub his pointer finger and his thumb, testing the sturdiness of the fabric. ] Considering what we put our clothing through here, I wouldn't scrimp.

It's all just gonna get messed up anyway.
(But he shifts awkwardly now that he's been caught in an unfamilair situation. Aside from the Daitengu's funeral and maybe a few other times he's been on official Shuten business, Hizen has never really dressed nicely in Jigoku. It's always been worn out hoodies and faded t-shirts with scuffed up jeans. He's very much been dressing like a boy who doesn't care for his appearances and yet... here he is.)
What a pain...

[ He removes the sweatshirt off the rack, holding it up to Hizen as though inspecting whether or not it works with his complexion. He's just seeing if it will fit him properly, really. ]
The same goes for clothing. Disasters notwithstanding, they'll last a good long while, but there's no reason not to buy quality just because their time with you is limited. Trying to refresh your wardrobe as well, Hizen?

He doesn't move when Kim holds up the hoodie. It is... a dark blue hoodie! In fact, it looks a lot like the red one he usually wears but isn't wearing today. It's a little big for Hizen but not in a way that would look bad. Who doesn't like a slightly large hoodie? It's not a bad color for Hizen who always leans towards darker colors or red.
At the moment, Hizen is just wearing a black t-shirt and black jeans (different shades of black). He has his signature bandage wrapped around his neck. His shoes are worn from running around the city all the time. His fashion style could very well be described as boyish and in that sort of hopeless "never had to worry about dressing himself" sort of way.)
The rain messed everything up. (And he sort of just rubs at his arm awkwardly.) And everyone keeps saying... their clothes are important or something...
(He's uncomfortable. He dislikes this. He's never fussed about his looks before.)

[ He believes this firmly. He's honestly a bit astonished by how many people he's had to explain this to, and occasionally worries if he comes across as vapid, or as vain. He generally attempts to downplay the importance that clothing holds for him in all its forms and how long he actually spends on his appearance, but also finds it difficult to restrain himself in the face of so many people that have dismissed it, through reasons of either negligence or simply not ever having had the opportunity to care about it. It's true that not everyone has to - there is a certain charm in asceticism, a trait that Kim covets more than he practices - but making that choice actively is rather nice. ]
To some people, anyway. It's how you are able to control how others see you. For others, it's an important part of self-expression. At the very least, you may as well get a sweater that will help keep the chill out.
[ He hands it out to Hizen, the implicit request being to try it on. ]
Surely you have some sense of what you'd like your personal style to be.
