[ After a long day of collecting stardust, Megumi's definitely feeling some of the effects, though subtle. His mood is lighter, his usually tense muscles relaxing, and the frown lines in his brows have eased just so slightly. Oddly, his usually anxieties, reservations and self-imposed rules and restrictions seem just a bit further away - almost like he's allowed to relax for a change, to simply experience a moment. Right now, this moment appears to be an impromptu meet up with a friend, dearly departed back in their home, but recently reunited. He's been softer on Nobara since, more willing to step out to accompany her when she wants to explore, buying her the occasional snack with his meager rookie salary. It's the cruelty of their fates that two friends would reunite only in Hell, but for now he can enjoy what time they have together.
The streets are bustling with lights, games and festival foods, something that easily leaves both teenagers in awe. He lets himself be dragged around, following the girl's whims, sampling together the street food the event had to offer. He would usually be suspicious of the stardust that's clearly been mixed into the food, but somehow, today, he doesn't think too much about it.
As they sit at one of the tables, sharing a plate of yakisoba, another festival-goer -high in spirits - slides them a pint of what's clearly alcohol. Instinctively, the prim and proper Megumi motions to refuse. ]
We're not old enough to --
[ "It's fine, just live a little! Or die a little -- You're in Hell!"
The boy pauses then, somehow considering this. They are in Hell, where it doesn't actually matter whether or not they're old enough to drink. ]
[ The fact she is here with her friends is what puts Nobara at ease - most of the time. It is a little nerve wrecking that they have no outside support, but she knows that the three of them are a strong team. Even if they butt heads and two of them have scared the other two because they died -- oops.
Exploring is a lot more fun with friends, and so Nobara is excited that Megumi agreed to join her (but did he have much choice in the matter? Very little.) All the items are familiar to her, so it puts Nobara in a good mood to feel like she is able to settle back home for the main part. ]
Let's do it!
[ Grinning, Nobara nods her head in agreement to the statement. ]
[ There's a flat look that he gives her in response to that, as if he doesn't quite appreciate the joke given the circumstances (the fact that he had to mourn her back home). Still, in a way, they are all technically dead, so he can't really scold her for being insensitive about her own passing. There's a sigh, slightly exasperated. ]
Fine ... [ Megumi brings the drink closer now, inspecting with caution, like it's some potentially dangerous concoction. It's just alcohol, Megumi. ]
Have you ever drank before? [ He's realising now that this might be his first time, and it's a bit of a milestone, almost. ]
[ Look -- okay, it would work better on the other remember of their team, since he decided to get himself killed during their first mission together. Nobara claps her hands together once and shakes her head. ]
Nope! It isn't like I was allowed to at home. [ And they certainly wouldn't be allowed to do it at school either, which is fair. ] I think as long as we take it nice and slow then it'll be fine and if we start to feel ... sick then we stop.
[ He doesn't actually know how it works, but he will assume responsibility and pretend that he has it all under control. ]
It's probably too late once we feel sick. We'll stop once we start to do things we normally wouldn't -- Leave it to me.
[ Megumi somehow has a lot of confidence he'll be able to keep things together and stay the rational one between them both, despite having no experience with alcohol at all. That is going to be a mistake.
He brings his glass to his lips now, taking a cautious sip. It's vodka, so an immediate, strong bitterness graces his tongue, but with his love for black coffee he doesn't hate it at all. ] It actually tastes quite good ...
[ okay, that was a weird encounter. it might have to do with the fact megumi was actively dismissing him and bakugou, only to escape the scene in a way that left a lot of questions with no answers. in yuujiās mind, he couldnāt wrap his head around that odd reaction. was he embarrassed? was his date with that mysterious woman supposed to be a secret? who is she? and when did this all start? ā too many questions.
itās been hours, and the confrontation is long forgotten until they crossed paths again. this time it was in one of those narrowed, heavily dimmed alleyways where most the black traders liked to hide, especially during an enma crackdown they were in a fight or flight mode. yuuji was tracking one of them down and ended up facing his roommate again, who happened to be hoarding something between his arms like a sneaky thief.
ah, the little sutoku. megumi is loyal to their cute leaderā makes sense why heās committing crimes in his favor. and yet, yuuji points an accusing finger at him- ]
[ The events that transpired only a few hours ago -- Megumi is trying his very best to dissociate from them. If he doesn't think about those embarrassing few hours and the fact that he had a small audience at the end of it, it's like they never happened. If no one talks about it, they can all forget about it, and the encounter can disappear with the wind.
(If only he were this lucky.)
After receiving the handsome payout from the rabbit youkai, the workaholic in Megumi urges him to keep on working, and so he fulfills his Sutoku duties - only, rather than barter and negotiate, he has opted for the easier, more direct approach.
Slipping through the dark alleys is too easy for someone like him. Having secured a good amount of vials, he was about to make it back to the Sutoku meeting hall when he feels the presence of someone approaching. Yuuji will find Megumi shrouded in the darkness of the alleyway, a hand shoved into the wall like he's in the midst of warping out. He stops when he recognises the person approaching. ]
What? It's me ... No one's looking, so you can drop the act. [ Yuuji can't actually be trying to arrest him right!!!! ]
[ yuuji seemed genuinely startled by that last statement, and maybe a bit offended. it might've given megumi a moment of serious doubt, and a releazation the two friends might end up clashing for the sake of their diverse factionsā that is until yuuji pressed a hand against his chest, scoffed, seemingly carrying a more dramatic, comical approach now. ]
It's never an act when I'm doing my job! [ a pause. ] Okay, seriously though-
[ he sighed, closing in the gap between them with a few easy steps, peering over the little stash megumi has collected. the one that an enma is strictly ordered to confiscate from any troublemakersā in this case, his beloved partner. the one who is ready to make an escape at any second. ]
Listen, I gotta take this. Stop starting trouble and hand it over. Shouldn't you be with your hot date? It's still early ...
[ The vexation Megumi feels can be heard dripping in his tone. ]
I told you already it wasn't a date. Listen to me ...
[ The stress and embarrassment of having to put up that farce from before (it's not that deep Megumi), coupled with the absolute mortification of being caught in that situation by someone he knows and cannot escape from, already has Megumi's annoyance with the day's events peaking. Now, he has to hand over the fruits of his labour so easily and without resistance? Even if it's a friend he cares about very much, that's annoying. Despite his serious character, Megumi is actually a boy who quite often lends himself to emotion, and when his annoyance builds up to a certain point, it morphs into spite -- childish and with less regard to reason. Where the exposure to the stardust has others on a high, it has Megumi giving into his whims in a different way, the immature child within him - often smothered by his many self-imposed principles and rules - rearing its head.
Megumi's grip on the vials of stardust eases up, like he's about to let Yuuji take them -- ] So you want these?
[ And then, he drops them, and they are consumed by the shadow. ]
You'll have to catch me first, Sergeant Itadori. [ He'll take off now, running to put some distance between them. Yuuji better act quick before the boy he's chasing disappears into the shadow.
[ he wasn't really expecting that? from the betrayal to megumi defying him so openly, and just when he was about to take it the wrong way he gets hit with the 'Sergeant Itadori'. silence followed, eyes wide open in shock, and thenā his expression eased into a sly grin. oh, it's like that.
yuuji had a hero's speech ready thanks to izuku's guidance, and he was about to drop the most badass liner in histo- ... fuck. megumi is already running away. ] Hey!
[ and he takes off after him. it would've been more of a struggle if that boy relied on his techniques, but if it's a matter of who's faster on foot? yuuji didn't give the other a chance to test his own stamina, quick to catch up and grab him by the shirt. there is nothing graceful about it, and yuuji is more of a brute when he's in action, even with a friend who he didn't want to 'hurt'ā megumi gets thrown to the ground with one arm twisted behind his back and pinned down by the head.
back to those shadowsā it's still trouble. that boy can still manage to slip his way out and escape. ]
You wanna try again? I'll give you a five seconds head start!
[ and yet, it didn't stop yuuji from being an asshole. ]
[ From snooping around town and listening in on conversations, Megumi's picked up on a lead that there's a bountiful stash of Stardust tucked away somewhere in a high-end club in the Tamamo district, no doubt in preparation to drug and make merry the patrons there for a huge upcoming event. This event, he's heard, is to be set up like a ball, similar to what they have in those Hollywood movies from the West. The biggest hindrance, however, is the fact that all attendees had to bring a date or they would be turned away at the door, and that alone is far beyond Megumi's capabilities as a human and sorcerer. While he could simply warp into the building, he pretends to know the layout of places before he warps in. He could climb out of the shadows right in front of everyone else, after all.
And what's how they've ended up here, with Megumi waiting outside the dressing room of a nearby thrift store for his temporary partner to finish up. While lingering around the building, he met another boy with a similar objective - one he recognises from Ember.
Megumi himself hasn't put too much effort into what he's wearing to the party. He's a nobody in Hell (good), so he doesn't expect anyone to recognise him. He's got on a simple suit and tie, and has made some effort to comb his hair for a change, slicking it back. ]
[The effort that needs or is put forward is going to be mostly in their want to get in and find the aforementioned stash. That doesn't mean Shoto isn't going to look his best. In this role, and thanks to the local cosplay shop that Shoto has tried to make understand he is a man, at least he has the functionality to be able to look different as long as he keeps his scar under wraps. That means at least a black wig that hides that part of his face and standing and staring at himself in some rendition of a red dress which thankfully doesn't give much room to try to view his chest for two obvious reasons. ...Even if he's a little more wide shouldered than more women, at least the white shall around his shoulders does its job on the rest.]
Yes.
[He's ready and when he comes out, he looks none the bothered in either direction. If this gets drugs off the street, he's fine with it.]
[ He didn't know what he was expecting, really, given that Todoroki was taller than he is and most women tend to be smaller. When the other boy does emerge from the dressing room, Megumi's a bit taken aback. ]
You're ... pretty good at disguises ...
[ Meaning, he hadn't expected Shoto to actually pass as a girl. Maybe that's a rude thing to say. Then again, he's also quite a straightforward person.
He'll concede to 'no abilities' at the start, but after they get in? There's no guarantee he'll behave. Anyway, on to business. He would like to get this over with as quickly as possible. ]
Right. Let's go.
[ To the club that's just a few blocks down the street. ]
[It's a not-rude-rude thing to say that Shoto takes as absolutely zero rude to have said to him. That's a compliment. He did a good job. Megumi will find that, easily, Shoto is a person who appreciates the praise under the comments.]
Thank you.
[Hey, even Shoto isn't going to just go no abilities if they have to. There's no reason not to defend themselves and maybe together a Shadowy Fire will deter some bad boys and girls.
With a great many moments of 'how do I walk in these shoes' in his head, Shoto finds his footing as they walk to said club. No less effort to try not to make it an odd scene looking over the bouncer to wonder which one of the three of them was going to come out on top if they weren't going to get let in.]
Take my hand.
[He offers his hand to Megumi, this may make it a little more couple convincing considering the other people he's seen along the way.]
[ Somehow, he was expecting to have to engage in some sort of physical intimacy given the premise of their farce. Yet, even with the preparation, it still feels awkward when it's with a stranger. Still, he's had more ... practice in that aspect, since coming here, so it isn't as hard as it used to be. There's a sigh. ]
Fine. [ He joins hands with Shoto, approaching the door. Megumi's never been on anything he considers a date, so he doesn't actually know how he's supposed to be acting, but it's usually more suspicious to overact than to just be himself. He keeps that stoic, bored expression on his face, hardly looking like a boy excited to be attending a nightclub party with their hot date. ]
We're here for the party. Let us in. [ The bouncer starts to appraise them both, not entirely convinced by their attitudes. ]
[ In a lot of ways, the Ten Shadows technique was almost made for this mission. The back alleys provide an abundance of shadows he can warp in and out of, and he's taken full advantage of the scenery, keeping himself hidden as he keeps a listening ear open. When it's clear the black market vendors have no information of value to offer (there's only so much debate about 'which stripper in is the best stripper in Tamamo' he can endure), he opts to swipe their product, sneaky fingers emerging from a cast shadow and pulling the little vials into the abyss.
He's careful where he emerges from, but one can never predict everything. That's why Monts might be in for a small surprise, when the shadow cast by a dumpster nearby starts to define itself, taking on the appearance of a black, tar-like liquid. From within that shadow, a young man emerges, and she might recognise him from Ember. He's holding a few vials of Stardust in his hands. ]
[Monts had been leaning against the wall of the alleyway, taking a break from the cabaret club. The games the hostesses were playing with their customers to acquire even more Stardust had been getting rowdier, even vicious, the past week or two. Everyone wanted it and it was getting harder to find. And although her body wouldn't feel the fatigue, she can easily tell when she needs a mental break from the race to gather the precious starlight.
She was counting on this being like any other evening in Hell. What she didn't count on was for a boy with unruly dark hair to emerge from what was supposed to be the shadow of the dumpster.
Light-colored eyes blink once. Twice.
And then she snaps her fingers and points at him.]
[ Megumi, with his flawless memory, recognises her immediately from when they had their chat on Ember a few weeks ago. He steps out of the shadow now, black tar sliding off him and falling back into the shadow, before that shadow loses that extra definition and returns to normal. He keeps the vials in his hands, but he does wonder if she's going to give him any trouble for them, given that he looks like quite a suspicious character right now. ]
It's Fushiguro.
[ Though they technically hadn't introduced, his name was there on the Ember page. He does acknowledge that it's a small detail not many would store to memory though. Anyway, he doesn't want to be referred to as 'Mom Friend', even if it's the least offensive thing on his profile. ]
Medina-san, right? [ It might be slightly alarming that he knows her name when she hadn't given it to him. Megumi's a nosy person and glanced at her profile. He also tends to commit all details, however unnecessary, to memory. ]
[Before she replies, Monts makes a complicated expression when she hears him refer to her as, "Medina-san" as if that's somehow worse in comparison to being called "Mom Friend."
So no, she won't question how he knows her name (she figured it out already, her profile was public) OR his shadowy powers on display, but she WILL make a lecturing finger wag at him.]
Oh no. No, you don't.
[She'll even walk up to Megumi and pokes his forehead.]
No one calls me "Medina-san" and we won't be starting now! I'm Monts.
[ It's only natural for Megumi to call people by their last names and add the appropriate honorific. He's a fairly polite young man like that. When she visibly bristles, he wonders for a quick second if she's unnerved by the fact that he managed to find out her name at all, but what she really seems to be irritated by ...
is very unexpected? ]
Huh? [ He's taken aback by the sudden scolding, and even more taken aback when she goes and pokes him in the forehead, instinctively taking a step back. ]
Monts-san then...? But isn't that your name? [ Megumi doesn't like his given name either, but he finds it odd that it got such a reaction out of her. ]
[ Unlike Yuuji, who tends to stay up until he's burned up all his energy chasing whatever whim that pops up during the evening, Megumi settles into a usual routine and doesn't tend to let anything disturb it. His sleep routine is very much the same: into bed by 10, and up by about 7. Even with Yuuji inviting random people into their home in the late hours of the evening, that doesn't change. So, Shealtiel would not have seen the gloomy boy very much during the night - probably only once, as he comes out to get a glass of water and wears an annoyed look the whole time. (Yuuji would have told him this is how he always looks, and not to take it personally.)
That would have been the end of the interaction had Shealtiel not make the decision to claim one of the beds. There's a reason the two beds are pushed together. These two boys share warmth from time to time.
Unfortunately for Shealtiel (or fortunately, perhaps, if he's a fan of tall and broody-looking young men), this means he might wake up pressed close to someone who is essentially a stranger. Sound asleep, Megumi has his arms wrapped around the angel, pressing him close against his chest as he nuzzles into his hair, fingers holding him by the bare skin of his lower back, where his shirt must have hiked up during their slumber. He smells clean, like lavender soap. ]
BATTLE also some minor cw of child suffering here sorry
( The first time he spots Megumi, Shealtiel stares for quite some time. It's probably what brings on the explanation from Yuuji, his staring, but that grumpy expression isn't what's bothering the angel at all. It's the familiarity of him in person. Sure, his ember profile had been one thing, but seeing him walking around like that was... a painful reminder of what he'd left behind.
He'd tried to shake it, and for a good part of the night, the fun and silliness of just movies and Yuuji in general distracted him. But by the time it was late enough to want to get some much needed sleep, so many things wouldn't leave his mind. Do you really think he'd be waiting? He's probably moved on. But he wouldn't... would he?
Taking advantage of Yuuji stepping away for whatever reason, Shealtiel makes his way to the bedroom. He's surprised, somehow, by the fact that the beds are shoved together like this, but with Megumi seeming to be properly on his own side, it doesn't seem much of a problem. He steals Yuuji's side without another thought on it, quickly falling asleep even with his thoughts. The overtime's been getting to him.
Nightmares revisit similar thoughts all the same. An old church, his younger self and that horrible, disgusting wing of his... The realization that if it had been gone, he would never had had to deal with any of his suffering. The desire to rip it clean off leading to him reaching out and grabbing on firmly, yanking even as his child self screams that it hurts.
In reality, Shealtiel's hands are gripping onto something more solid than he expected. Something warm, a little firm— he inhales shakily, and reality seeps in more. Someone is holding him, and it's almost nice until the panic sets in. It's not Luci. It's a human. A human, a human— )
Stop touching me!
( The words ring out from memory more than in the moment, but he moves all the same. A violent punch right at Megumi's gut, and then a pull back that has him stumbling off the bed and backed against the wall, his scarred left hand held in front of his chest in case he needs to pull out his weapon.
But he's realizing slowly where he is again, in between panicked breathing that shows a flash of fangs that weren't there before. Right, he'd stayed the night somewhere else... And stolen a bed. )
[ Megumi's dreams tend to vary. Sometimes, they take a bittersweet quality, and he's in his family home once again, helping his sister with the dishes as that tall, annoying white-haired man chatters behind him. Sometimes, he's by himself in that run down apartment again, stomach growling as he scavenges for whatever food might remain in the fridge, waiting for that person to return even if he knows it's unlikely they will. Sometimes - and these are the ones he does enjoy - his mind is a little kinder to him, treating him to a momentary ideal world, where he's surrounded by his loved ones and a multitude of animals. With how settled he's been feeling in Hell, he's been having those good dreams more and more ...
He was having one such dream, a nonsensical one where he's making onigiri for a pack of wolves, when he's swiftly and with little warning socked right in the gut, and that jolts him awake immediately, causing him to roll off the edge of the bed and onto the floor.
Immediately, he's on high alert. It's not unheard of for Yuuji to get a little too rambunctious in his dreams, but he can sense a presence that's very much inhuman, and before he checks who it is, he's clasping his fingers together, summoning Totality from the shadows. ]
Why are you in my room?! [ And where's Yuuji! In his groggy state still, it doesn't catch up to him yet that the angel is a guest. ]
( A canine? Shealtiel flexes his fingers and a circle of blue appears in front of his chest. In one quick motion, he pulls a spear from the center of that circle, holding it to his side in his left hand. Prismatic sparkles fall from where the spear has formed, and the summoning circle vanishes as Shealtiel stands defensively.
His eyes make him look like a wild animal backed into a corner. Terrified, but ready to lash out at anyone who gets too close. )
I was asleep until you grabbed at me.
( There's really no reason to be this aggressive when he was the one bed stealing, but it's an automatic reaction for him. He can't help the way the rage builds up, the way he feels like his skin is itching and burning, like he was going to be cut again.
His fingers grip tighter at the spear. )
What is that thing? ( Totality, he means, eyes narrowing. It feels strange. While his own angelic aura is sparkly, bright, holy, this thing feels... dark, somehow? But not necessarily evil, all the same. And that's enough to make him feel a connection much like the ones he feels with demons. Why. Why, he doesn't want to deal with thinking about that right now, why. )
[ Totality, just like Megumi's own aura, will indeed feel dark and looming, much like an abyss, but with little true malice - not for this situation, anyway. The wolf-like creature mimic its owners emotions, hairs standing on edge, ready to strike. But where Megumi's eyes are piercing cold, Totality has a ravenous look to it, teeth bared and snarling. ]
I don't have to tell you that.
[ As for why he had grabbed the angel, the most obvious answer would be that it's because he was in their bed, and he had mistaken him for his usual companion. That, he doesn't say, because it's rather awkward to admit.
Speaking of said companion ... ]
Where's Yuuji? [ Adrenaline is still on a high, and he's quick to assume the worst case scenario even if there's a part of him that tells him he's overreacting. It's hard not to overreact in some form, when you wake up to find a non-human being in your room bearing a heavenly spear. ]

Todoroki-san ... Are you finished in there?
no subject
Yes.
[He's ready and when he comes out, he looks none the bothered in either direction. If this gets drugs off the street, he's fine with it.]
Let's go. Remember, no abilities.
[For either of them.]
no subject
You're ... pretty good at disguises ...
no subject
[He offers his hand to Megumi, this may make it a little more couple convincing considering the other people he's seen along the way.]
no subject

monts - mini-event -
He's careful where he emerges from, but one can never predict everything. ]
... Oh. [ Whoops. Hi? ]
no subject
She was counting on this being like any other evening in Hell. What she didn't count on was for a boy with unruly dark hair to emerge from what was supposed to be the shadow of the dumpster.
Light-colored eyes blink once. Twice.
And then she snaps her fingers and points at him.]
"Mom Friend."
no subject
It's Fushiguro.
[ Though they technically hadn't introduced, his name was there on the Ember page. He does acknowledge that it's a small detail not many would store to memory though. Anyway, he doesn't want to be referred to as 'Mom Friend', even if it's the least offensive thing on his profile. ]
Medina-san, right? [ It might be slightly alarming that he knows her name when she hadn't given it to him. Megumi's a nosy person and glanced at her profile. He also tends to commit all details, however unnecessary, to memory. ]
Sorry if I startled you ...
no subject
So no, she won't question how he knows her name (she figured it out already, her profile was public) OR his shadowy powers on display, but she WILL make a lecturing finger wag at him.]
Oh no. No, you don't.
[She'll even walk up to Megumi and pokes his forehead.]
No one calls me "Medina-san" and we won't be starting now! I'm Monts.
the time keeps flying away from me
is very unexpected? ]

shealtiel - gen - they shall BATTLE
And stolen a bed. )
no subject
no subject
Why. Why, he doesn't want to deal with thinking about that right now, why. )
no subject
I don't have to tell you that.
[ As for why he had grabbed the angel, the most obvious answer would be that it's because he was in their bed, and he had mistaken him for his usual companion. That, he doesn't say, because it's rather awkward to admit.
Speaking of said companion ... ]
Where's Yuuji? [ Adrenaline is still on a high, and he's quick to assume the worst case scenario even if there's a part of him that tells him he's overreacting. It's hard not to overreact in some form, when you wake up to find a non-human being in your room bearing a heavenly spear. ]
