[She doesn't get to finish her sentence because immediately one of the goons (there are about three of them) unsheathes a pocket knife and lunges for Megumi. While the other two try to block Monts off. She swears under her breath and maneuvers around them somehow going after the armed individuals.
Before he can jab at the boy, without really thinking, Monts blocks the black market dealer and grabs the blade of the knife.
Obviously, it cuts her.
Obviously, she is bleeding.
This should be a very, very dire problem, but Monts looks at the assailant cooly, saying nothing while they all stare at her, bug-eyed at the recklessness forgetting about the boy who had stolen from them.]
[ Megumi could sense their hostility and was prepared to evade the attack, too used to being in situations such as these. He fully expected to have to defend himself, but he doesn't quite expect the older woman to jump in to his defense - let alone shield him by grabbing the knife. It's such an absurd thing to do for someone you've only spoken to once, and his worry spikes immediately. ]
Divine Dogs. [ Clasping his hands together, he summons his two dogs, who charge at the attackers immediately, latching onto their arms or thighs and throwing them a further distance away. Megumi takes this brief moment to turn to Monts, grabbing her by the wrist and trying to pry the knife from her hands. ]
What are you doing?! Why would you grab this?! Let it go!
[The kid has powers; that's a relief for Monts who had basically acted thoughtlessly because she assumed there were no other means of defense. But her thought was more along the lines of:
"It's not going to hurt anyway."
She knows it's a concerning thought process and that she should not act on it so impulsively. But things happen in the heat of the moment, you know?
Megumi's Divine Dogs make short work of creating distance between them and the dealers as well as a perfect deterrent. Monts was lost in thought, fascinated by the summoned creatures that she didn't notice she was still holding onto the knife until she feels her warm blood sliding down her hand.]
Oops. You're right.
[The knife clatters to the ground with small drops of blood around it. The deep cut on her palm is prominent but she's indifferent and uncaring to her physical state.]
You were going to get stabbed. What kind of person would I be if I just stood by?
cw: light bloodshed/violence
