[ The vexation Megumi feels can be heard dripping in his tone. ]
I told you already it wasn't a date. Listen to me ...
[ The stress and embarrassment of having to put up that farce from before (it's not that deep Megumi), coupled with the absolute mortification of being caught in that situation by someone he knows and cannot escape from, already has Megumi's annoyance with the day's events peaking. Now, he has to hand over the fruits of his labour so easily and without resistance? Even if it's a friend he cares about very much, that's annoying. Despite his serious character, Megumi is actually a boy who quite often lends himself to emotion, and when his annoyance builds up to a certain point, it morphs into spite -- childish and with less regard to reason. Where the exposure to the stardust has others on a high, it has Megumi giving into his whims in a different way, the immature child within him - often smothered by his many self-imposed principles and rules - rearing its head.
Megumi's grip on the vials of stardust eases up, like he's about to let Yuuji take them -- ] So you want these?
[ And then, he drops them, and they are consumed by the shadow. ]
You'll have to catch me first, Sergeant Itadori. [ He'll take off now, running to put some distance between them. Yuuji better act quick before the boy he's chasing disappears into the shadow.
[ he wasn't really expecting that? from the betrayal to megumi defying him so openly, and just when he was about to take it the wrong way he gets hit with the 'Sergeant Itadori'. silence followed, eyes wide open in shock, and thenâ his expression eased into a sly grin. oh, it's like that.
yuuji had a hero's speech ready thanks to izuku's guidance, and he was about to drop the most badass liner in histo- ... fuck. megumi is already running away. ] Hey!
[ and he takes off after him. it would've been more of a struggle if that boy relied on his techniques, but if it's a matter of who's faster on foot? yuuji didn't give the other a chance to test his own stamina, quick to catch up and grab him by the shirt. there is nothing graceful about it, and yuuji is more of a brute when he's in action, even with a friend who he didn't want to 'hurt'â megumi gets thrown to the ground with one arm twisted behind his back and pinned down by the head.
back to those shadowsâ it's still trouble. that boy can still manage to slip his way out and escape. ]
You wanna try again? I'll give you a five seconds head start!
[ and yet, it didn't stop yuuji from being an asshole. ]
[ Somehow, he should have known that this would happen, given Yuuji's insane physical prowess. Challenging the other might have been a small oversight on his part, but there's always a side of him that wants to see how he measures up against his friend. A competitive side that doesn't rear its head too often, but is there.
Megmui's slammed to the ground too easily, weighing nothing to the boy capable of throwing three cars with ease, and while the impact is painful, the arm held behind him aching slightly, he can also feel some adrenaline pumping through him, energizing his usually bored and muted demeanor. ]
I don't need a head start ... [ There's no point running again, he realises quickly. He has to go into the shadow.
Twisting his other arm quickly, he joins his hands before Yuuji catches on to what he's doing, clasping them together and forming the shadow puppet of a dog. Totality emerges from the shadow too quickly, its speed comparable to Yuuji's as it charges at the boy and tackles him - no teeth or claws, only the immense strength of a curse holding the boy down. The usual snarling, deranged expression on Totality's face isn't present today - the large dog is calm, because it doesn't want to hurt a friend.
Megumi takes this chance to get up and run, the shadow before him warping into tar. He steps in, letting it consume him. ]
[ of course megumi wonât go down that easy, but yuuji hoped he could outsmart him for once only to end up getting knocked a few feet away, losing his grip on him. fuck. by the time he pulled his head up and off the dirty ground, he watched as megumi took off, leaving him behind with the heavy weight of totality toppling over him. with a frustrated sigh, he glanced at the shikigami; they both stare at each other for a secondâbefore he reached up to pet him on the head. no, they didnât want to hurt each other, nor is megumi asking him to. it didnât mean he wouldnât manhandle his way out of those massive claws, and he managed to do so. ]
Sorry, buddy! I gotta catch your criminal owner!!
[ what followed is not a calculated move and might not be the brightest idea either. it is what made sense to him as he tried to escape the shikigami who happen to almost match his speed; a mad dash to where the pool of shadows consumed megumi and he throws himself into it.
his basic logic is: wherever megumi ends up, heâll just be there by his side. simple, right? ]
[ Between where each portal opens into the next, there is a space one must travel through first - a vast, unending abyss of darkness that made up Megumi's domain. Without the actual ability to warp through the shadows, that's where Yuuji will find himself, falling into that bottomless space as the darkness surrounds him. Gravity still exists in the realm of the shadows, but there are no actual structures framing that space - nothing to grab hold, and nowhere to fall into. The boy will fall, and he will keep falling; falling and falling endlessly while hearing and seeing nothing; the only sensation permitted to him that sense of weightlessness and pulling that some might find mildly dysphoric.
Should he open his senses to cursed energy, he will feel the nature of the cursed energy that made up the space: an aura dark and looming, but not actually malicious. It carries a sense of melancholy. This aura should feel familiar, because it is.
In the distance, should Yuuji squint, he might be able to make out the outlines of a vast structure, jagged and bony in nature, cascading one piece over the other with spiny veins protruding from it. The spinal processes of a very large creature. No one knows what this is.
his simple mind thought it would be nothing more than a quick passage from point A to point B, or at leastâ megumi would be in sight, and he'd be able to latch onto him or something. again, a simple mind. instead, yuuji found himself in an endless void of utter darkness, constantly falling into a bottomless abyss. one should be overwhelmed, shaken evenâ yuuji is more annoyed.
how the fuck did he lose that boy so easily?
he folds his arms against his chest, still falling, but the trust he had in his friend went beyond any need to panic. no one understood this world more than megumi himself, and no one can get him out of it other thanâ ]
[ At this point he's practiced enough walking through the shadows that it's close to second nature. It's for that reason Megumi is nowhere to be found - as effortlessly as he had slipped in, he had also slipped out, crossing the abyss like it was a simple hallway between room to room. For those with no control over this realm, it's impossible to navigate without the guidance of the owner, which explains the boy's predicament.
He will not be in it for very long, however. The moment Yuuji dives in, Megumi feels it from where he is, a heavy and oppressive pressure weighing down his joints and muscles. With how the abyss was simply a part of his soul, he could also sense the nature of the one intruding, knowing immediately who it is from the feeling of their cursed energy. It's a strange feeling, that -- the sensation of another within you, their energy intermingling with yours. He doesn't know what to make of it. ]
That idiot --! [ With no hesitation at all, he dives back in, searching his vast and mysterious realm for the one being that stood out. Yuuji will find him soon after, emerging from the shadow and falling after him. ]
Why would you jump inside?! [ Reaching out, he grabs the boy's wrist and pulls him closer, wrapping an arm around his waist as well so they won't be separated. ]
[ for once, he isn't trying to be an asshole. yuuji knew he was in good hands, and that boy wouldn't allow anything to happen to him inside his domain, so why must he be so reserved about it? while he didn't sense any hostility between all those shadows, there is still a spark of heaviness about being trapped in here. the aura is not threatening per se, but it's also not welcoming either. as if it is warning yuuji not to abuse the kind tolerance.
if there was any concern about them, somehow, drifting apartâ it won't happen, especially when yuuji secured his arms around the other's shoulders; smiling. they are still falling into this pit of darkness, but not as fast now that he's holding into megumi â somewhat floating. ah, maybe not 'floating'; it felt they were underwater.
it wasn't a bad feeling at all. ]
Who knew my roommate was a sneaky thief all along! Are you gonna give up the loots the easy way, or the hard way?
It feels weird for me, you know ... [ Given that he can sense Yuuji's presence and cursed energy taking up space within him, on top of the heavy 80kg weight that's bearing him down. It isn't weight that can't manage, but it's still really annoying to deal with. Megumi doesn't elaborate, choosing to move on after making that vague complaint. While he did find the situation annoying, he can feel some of his irritation waning when Yuuji draws near, arms wrapped around his neck so easily it's like their bodies fit together. He keeps his arms securely around the boy's lower back, a strange satisfaction in the act, like he's claiming this moment between them as his own.
While he isn't sure he wants to continue their game of chase (given that Yuuji might pull this stunt again), the stubborn and competitive side of him doesn't quite want to admit defeat without some sort of a fight.
Obviously, he picks the hard way. ]
One match. Winner takes all. [ He knows he won't win in hand-to-hand, but he's always interested to see how he measures up.
To the side of them, the abyss seems to shift, a beam of sunlight cutting through it like a curtain that has been drawn. ]
[ feels weird, huh? he's not sure what that means, but knowing megumi â he'd probably offer some vague answer that presents little to no explanation. the question was dismissed for now, and yuuji averts his attention towards the shimmering light from a distanceâ quick to illuminate the place and pulls them out of that grim realm. in which they both find themselves in another alleyway in a location he's unfamiliar with.
back to megumi, he searched those green huesâ his own expression is hard to read; not intense yet isn't nonchalant either. ]
Ah, okay ...
[ this is new. they've never done this before, not even for the sake of training. it has always been on private sessions with gojo, and it made him wonder if there was an elaborate plan to purposely avoid them from testing each other's strengths, only because it's bizarre they haven't done this before. interesting.
with some quick shift of his foot, aiming for megumi's defenseless ankle, the sorcerer would end up losing his balance and before he could recoverâ yuuji managed to pin him down on the ground, restraining each wrist with a firm grip. the fun part is: every time megumi attempts to retaliate, the harder his hold will be â it was simple and could be viewed as 'playful' but it forced them both into a game of pure physical strength and endurance.
plus, keeping megumi's hands apart meant he can't summon his shikigami, right? here's to hoping that's true. ]
If I can hold you down for a full three minutes, then I win. Sounds fair?
[ gojo was probably protecting megumi from the sense of utter defeat dopkmjkomj ]
[ Funny that he had seen Yuuji's immense speed just minutes prior, and yet here he is unable to keep up once again. Before Megumi can even register what's happening, he's pushed off balance, falling onto the ground with a painful thud. His eyes just cannot keep up - and even if they could, his body would not respond in time. ]
Hey -- [ On the ground he goes, and immediately he wants to snap his palms together but his wrists are then held down by the boy's firm grip. It's such a one-sided battle it's almost bullying.
Yuuji's move forces that proximity between them, the other boy hovering over him now with a unreadable expression. Something interesting happens then - it's not a mood that ever shows up in a fight, but Megumi can feel his heart racing quicker, his face heating up. Immediately, he's made too aware that he had bitten off more than he could chew - and not just in regard to their physical strengths. With their history, what they've gone through together here and the way he's started to notice Yuuji much more than he ever did before, this ... was probably a mistake.
That competitive spite within him starts to wane, and Yuuji will feel it: how the strength in the boy's wrists seems to sap away. Going redder in the face, Megumi looks away. ]
Fine ... [ Where's that blustering energy from before? It's gone now. Still, he doesn't want to lose even if it feels like he has no chance. He pushes up against Yuuji's wrists, trying to shake the boy's grip off him in a very futile way. He also uses his legs, kicking out at Yuuji's abdomen. It's a lot like kicking a brick wall -- especially when he doesn't quite have the energy he was harbouring before.
In a real battle he would be retreating swiftly into the shadow. This isn't a real battle - nobody feels like this in a real battle - and Yuuji is just going to sink in with him, worsening the tension in the air given the invasive sensation from before.
So, yeah. Utter defeat đ You had a good try, king. ]
[ whether megumi has given up or notâ it doesn't change anything. yuuji's strength never wavered, in spite of the threat seemingly no longer there- ... a prime example of giving it all, even when the situation is nothing more than a rough play between two friends. yuuji still wanted to win. the three minutes are not over yet.
the corner of his lips curved into a smirk, staring the other down with such a rare, indirect incitement that's more fitted for sukuna than yuuji himself; it doesn't help they share the same body so the resemblance is uncanny; the shadow/lights of this alleyway traced his features in a manner that made him look somewhat cruel. is he pleased? maybe a part of him is. come onâ megumi has always been that student with blessed techniques, born with given talents that are fit for formidable sorcerersâ the golden stairs are planted for him to reach that stage. a bit childish to think this way, but yuuji is a child. this is ... fun. to win over someone like that boy. ]
You can use your shadows.
[ let them both sink into that hellish abyss again. the offer isn't intended to come off as cocky, but to acknowledge megumi still had a chance to win. yuuji is helpless inside his domain after all. the clock is ticking, one minute to goâ
without risking his firm hold on those wrists; yuuji gets closer and closerâ eyes barely open at this point. communication is key, he should be more verbal with his intents, and yet yuuji didn't. instead, he playfully brushed the tip of his tongue over the swell of megumi's lower lip. ]
[ It feels like a natural occurrence of events, where that tension was leading. For that reason he's not too surprised. Though red in the face still, his heart pounding within his chest, that sense of anticipation is also on a high. It spurs Megumi on to reciprocate, to tilt his face forward and meet the boy's lips in a proper kiss, sucking on his lips gently. It isn't anything too strange; they've done it before, and each time he came closer to a state where he could allow himself to simply enjoy the moment.
Though his bashfulness had caused his energy to wane before, that glimpse of a cocky look he had spotted on the other boy's face only seemed to spur him on again. Megumi was hesitant about allowing Yuuji back into his domain in the current mood they were in, but he's berating himself for that weakness now. An awkward sensation should not be enough to make him give up.
And what that thought, the shadow extends beyond his body, engulfing their joined hands and soon their bodies; the black tar-like substance consuming them almost like it's hungry. Yet, he's somehow able to keep that intimacy throughout, kissing the boy even after his face has sunken into the shadow.
Once inside, it's too easy. He's never had a need for hand seals within his own domain. Totality materializes behind Yuuji, grabbing the boy's hands and forcefully prying them off Megumi, the grasp that beast has rough and sharp in its haste. Megumi uses his freedom to stabilize Yuuji, wrapping his arms around his waist to keep them close.
He breaks that kiss, gasping momentarily for some air. He has to contend with so much at once: the invasive sensation and heavy weight of the boy essentially inside of him, and the sweetness and passion of their intimacy, that both overwhelmed and excited him. It shows on his face; that light blush, a drop of sweat, and the slight furrow in his brow. ]
15 ... seconds left -- I win. [ So he was counting. Totality vanishes after its job is done. ]
[ of course this guy wins, and while yuuji couldn't help but to accept it with a sly smirkâ he is also a bit annoyed with himself. why the fuck did he encourage him to push forward? he could've had that victory if he kept his mouth shut. then again, he still had a shot of fighting back if the shikigami didn't catch him off guard; a hold too strong and too fast it truly startled him. what scary creatures megumi has at his command. a golden boy, indeed.
they're back in that dark space, but the sensation is unusual this time. it's heavier on yuuji's chest, making his body a bit warm, not only from the kiss itself and the way those hands settled on his waist; it's more influential. maybe ... the aura of this domain might be a reflection of megumi's own psyche. ah, not a bad idea for someone as stupid as yuuji. ]
I let you win.
[ stupid and a brat. his hands reached up to cradle those soft cheeks, going in for another kiss, short and sweetâ but it didn't stop there. it was followed by a series of playful smooches along megumi's jawline, tracing slowly up to his cheekbone. he muffles a chuckle between those kisses, breath warm against megumi's pale skin; now purposely smothering his face and annoying him. ]
Fine, you get to keep the stardust. Show it off to your boss.
[ the other won the challenge, so yuuji will keep his side of the deal by giving up. it's not like he understood what the sutoku are up to, but a deal is a deal. they can let go of this little fight now. he breaks away soon after; his own face heavily flustered in bliss. ]
Sure -- [ There's a bit of a roll of the eyes at that, equally petty and childish. Yuuji's encouragement had only pushed him to get over his hang ups about having the other boy in his domain. The abilities are still his, and unless Yuuji had held back on his strength, he will consider this win his as well.
That sullen, petty feeling gets kissed away in due time, Megumi closing his eyes as he's peppered with kisses; each one soft, curious and light. He can feel his brows easing up, body relaxing into the sweet attention even if he's still dealing with the extra weight on him. This is what he likes - when the affection is soft and easy.
There's no response to Yuuji's admittance of defeat, only an exhale, slightly cocky. He won, so of course he's keeping the vials. Yuuji's question, however, earns his curiousity. Megumi meets his eyes, hands still wrapped around the boy's waist. ]
