[ He grabs a hold of it without opening his eyes at first. The weight of it instantly tells him what it is, what kind of blade he's handling. A tanto, small and sleek. He finally looks at it, drawing it. It feels good in his hand, balanced. The detailing on it is beautiful, too, and he spends some time studying it, running his fingers over it in delight and awe. It's a perfect tool for an assassin.

His heart jumps in his throat; memories of Ryouma lending him Hizen Tadahiro, the Sakamoto family treasure, come flooding back. It's such a significant gesture and Izō finds himself speechless for once. ]

I... [ He stares at the blade, at his own stunned reflection in it. ] Yer serious? Ya got me somethin' this fuckin' nice?

[pitfight]

Sure did. You made me proud, considering you're my boy, after all. [ Nishitani's somewhat pinned himself to Izo. He's spoken positively about Izo to ranked members of the clan-- so what Izo does, promotions he makes, they all reflect back on Nishitani, bolstering his word and value on the streets. The promotion-- its valuable for him, not just Izo. ]

[ So, the gift isn't just for the promotion, no, but a gift of reputation. Izo's made good on talents, and in turn Nishitani's made deals he couldn't before. The tanto is a gift, one that Nishitani took time figuring out, paid to have made quickly, oversaw himself. Red, black, beautiful-- just like his boy. ]

[ He blushes furiously, unable to handle the praise being lavished upon him. It's good, he likes it, but it's so hard to accept. He sheathes the tanto, then wraps his arms around Nishitani to hug him. No, he's not crying, how dare you notice that. ]

Dunno what else t' say but thanks...It's ain't enough, but...'s all I got.

[ He buries his face against Nishitani's shoulder. His affection for the older man is so great that he can't adequately express it. Clinging to him with tears in his eyes, overwhelmed by gratitude and praise, is a good start. ]

There there, [ Nishitani doesn't directly mention Izo's crying, but he wraps Izo up in his arms and kisses his temple, easy and soft between them. ] Love you, Iichan. You made daddy real happy.

[ If it were anyone else, he'd get defensive and assume they were making fun of him. Izō hasn't made anyone proud; he just lets people down and disappoints them. Knowing that he actually made someone proud of him in a way that matters...He can't handle it.

Izō clings to him a bit longer before scrubbing at his face to hide his tears. It doesn't work -- he knows he isn't fooling anyone. ]

Guess I gotta work real hard t' keep ya that way, huh?

That's right. Being mine is a full time job. [ He's possessive, but at this point, its a feature not a bug. ] Now, you gonna let me cook you something before fucking your brains out?

[ Of course he is, but it's so hard to just accept anyone being nice to him, even when he loves them. It's nearly impossible for him to let go of the idea that these relationships are transactional and only worth what they can get out of Izō. As time goes on, it's easier for him to accept it. ]

I mean...if ya wanna. [ And not because he wants it. ] Never gonna say no t' a free meal.
