Careful, asshole bites. [ Nishitani should know, Bastard just loves biting him and Andy both. Whenever they tried to fuck last month during the thunderstorms he'd bite their asses to make them stop taking up space on the futon-- like he owned the fucking thing! ]

[so far, it doesn't seem like they're in a biting mood. more in a mood to push their face against her hand, which she knows enough to translate as pet me please, and so she'll oblige. right now, they seem like nothing more than a big sweetheart, who just wants a little notice and care. maybe some salmon, but that's if they behave.
she tries to pull away, and they instantly butt their head into hand again, making her chuckle. probably the catnip from the clinic being so attractive, but she doesn't mind spoiling them with a little more attention.]

[ok, big guy. she'll kneel and pet you with two hands, letting you be scritched and loved. she won't call you names, unlike Nishitani. she will dote on you. and if you're very good, she'll save you a little fish. already, she thinks she could use some of the catnip, and sew a small mouse for them...]

[she shakes her head, but goes back to petting the cat, avoiding the drool but charmed by his purr.]
I hardly made preparations for that. We'll have to go without, won't we?

[ Nishitani instead moves over to the table nearby, putting down the wine and checking on the sauce thickening away on the stove. ]

[she'd come over to be friendly, after all. just friendly - the texts, the tension, that's its own business. but he's someone important to those close to her, and so she owes it to make the effort. to actually get to know him beyond the surface, beyond their dance of what they might want to say.
for now, she can simply adore the cat and his rumbling purr, happy when he flops down on the ground so she can stroke his side. charming!]

[ Slowly, the dishes get put onto the table. ]

if there's cups, she'll pour the wine to be polite. very civil. if the cat wants to join, he may.]

[ He sits down beside Bastard, across from Emily. The lunch came together incredibly well, if he says so himself, and he's interested to see her response, but also: ] If you want more of anything, let me know baby. I got extras. [ He's enjoying a working fridge, does it show? ]

that said, she utters a quick thanks, and begins to sample the meal. it's delicious, and she brought her appetite - he can probably see it in her expression, but she takes the time after a few bites to smile.]
It's wonderful. Where did you learn to cook, if you don't mind my asking?
[there. a simple, ordinary question.]

[saying it so casually, she waits to see if he'll brush it off, or actually answer her.]

[ He doesn't tell her that he was an orphan. Not yet. But his life is built on those foundations. ]

If you cooked like this, I'm sure they had absolutely no complaints.
[the unspoken question is where they are now. but now, they're in hell - it's a stupid thing to assume. maybe his sister is doing fine, far away from the yakuza life. maybe his uncle is retired. maybe she's just hopeful.]
Though I'm sure wine wasn't involved.

[ Nishitani doesn't know if his life could've gone any other way. ]

[despise the lightness of the words, she does note that genuine quality to his expression, and it's answered with her own. even if it's in little pieces, it's another piece of information about him. given, not forced. she appreciates it.]
