HEY CREW. Sorry this took me a hot minute to get together, life has been a diggity drag.

Here's what we know:

* Majima and Azem went to the Kappa family offices and got a map of the sewers.

* Ethan gave them a tip about how the Kappa's path correlates above ground as well!

* From the mini-event description we know a little: "they’re building something down there."

* The mods approve us to find:

They will probably even catch a glimpse of... the machine.

Which without someone with extensive mechanical engineering experience, they'll genuinely have no idea what it is or what it does. What they can figure out is:

1) The machine is hooked up to the main waterworks, and seems to need a lot of water to function, whatever that function might be

2) It's location is pretty conspicuous, lining up with the location of the central stop on the parade route.

Our crew's skills:

* Majima - Moderately stealthy, has his catnip mouse that lets him walk silently
* Aerith - Sewer sneak extraordinaire
* Azem - Ninja stats
* Six - Assassin stats
* Emily - On distraction duty for escapes

General plan:

* Use the map and Ethan's tips to figure out where to station each person so they can signal to others to proceed.

* If you want to get caught you have the option of either escaping their capture with Emily's help, or actually getting caught and punished! If you want to get caught for real consequences, head over to the Substories page to let the mods know.

Format:

* I'm going to make a a couple of top levels for a full group thread. I'm going to suggest that we don't pay too much attention to tagging order so that it can flow freely. (I know I'm not moving too quickly atm and I'd hate to hold you guys up.)

* Group thread 1: The plan and heading out

* Group thread 2: The machine? (If we do anything to it, we should note it to the mods.)

* The reason I suggest that is you can then make your own top levels below it and break into pairs (or whatever) to tag with whoever meets your speed, so please don't feel like it's exclusionary. It's just to offer different options for engagement. Choose the one that works for you!

* Get with Emily (medicative) if you want a distraction/escape thread! She has a TL here!

* Definitely please try to do whatever you're feeling, I'm not here to constrain you. I really tried to think up a format that would be flexible to everyone.

GROUP | ROLLING OUT

[ Majima lays out the map on a table in a small bar near the Parade route. He has a nice scorch mark on his jacket from the quest to get this thing, as does Azem. But they did it, that's all that matters. He's already marked the points that Ethan had noted to him, circled in a blue pen. ]

All right... It's Kappa turf so we're at a disadvantage, only thing's gonna save us is if we look out for each other. I ain't got any of Chijoku's powers right now, but I can go quiet.

[ A gift from the Farm Goddess of Hakagemachi: a small cutesy token that allows him to walk silently. He's not going to show it off, the catnip mouse is kind of embarrassing. ]

Em's gonna be nearby to create a distraction if they drag ya up outta there.

[ six keeps to himself, for the most part, listening to how the plan is going to be laid out. this should be fairly easy — they go in as quietly as possible, check out what the kappa are up to, and then get out without alerting anyone to their presence. the only tricky part is not having any access to skills that would make this a ton easier, but it's not like any of them are particularly helpless.

he looks over the map majima has laid out and points out an intersection close to one of the areas marked in blue pen. ]

I can scope out this area first. It's the closest point to where we're entering, so if there are any guards, I'll be able to take care of them quietly to let the rest of the group proceed.

[ He observes where Six has pointed, eye scanning thoughtfully. ]

Looks good. The rest of us can follow in after ya give the signal.

[ He takes a sheathed tanto blade from the back of his slacks, looking it over contemplatively. ]

Let's avoid weapons if we can, better not t'scratch up of 'em more than we gotta.

[ six nods quietly, confirming that he agrees with the plan as it is. it's a mission he's done several times before so he doesn't think it should be difficult to pull off. (or so he hopes.)

he looks over the tanto blade and nods again. ]

That shouldn't be a problem. I'll drag them someplace out of sight if they need to be subdued.

[ if they encounter any at all. ]

Where is Emily going to be waiting for us?

[ Majima would like to keep her as far away as possible, but in reality she needs to be close enough. ]

Somewhere she can see where we go in. Can't watch every point, but that's as good as any.

Majima | open, just know I'm goin' slow atm

[ He crouches in the dark of the sewers, as alert as he can be. This little mission would really have benefitted from the snake's vibration hearing, but it's still dampened down to nothing. The snake isn't terribly pleased about it either, feeling notably useless when he is used to being the one to save Majima. He assuages the snake as best he can, and tries to focus with a fist curled around the catnip mouse the Farm Goddess gave him. It's the best he's got and while he has never been terribly religious, he can't help but think a little prayer to her and all of her wild farm cats.

He waits at an intersection of tunnels, listening for Kappa feet even if he can't see them. He glances to the others stationed around, looking for all clears.

If he can get a read on a Kappa, he could probably take them out. But that assumes there aren't more nearby watching... Help a guy out. ]

Majima & Azem | closed (getting a map)

[ He meets the woman at theater square as promised. He's quite a tall man, although there are still yokai who tower over him. He's lean and it shows in his face, sharpened cheek bones and smudgy sadness under his good eye. He's smoking a cigarette as she approaches. He's easy to spot with his long hair and eyepatch, so he assumes anyone approaching him is who he's meant to meet. ]

M'Majima.

[ A brief greeting. ]

Let's walk over t'the office, can talk on the way.

[starshepard]

[ He does kind of stand out in the way all of the new arrivals seem to. She makes her way over. She's shorter, rather unremarkable save for her glowing eyes. Though the style of dress, a long black hooded robe, is a bit strange. ]

Azem. [ She smiles up at him. She seems like the pleasant sort. ]

Okay. [ She falls in with him once he starts walking. ] So what are in for with this?

[ She's only ever used her stealth in situations like this to try and sneak up on her friends. Unfortunately, they both have the ability to see souls so it never really worked. ]

All right... So th'way a yakuza office is normally laid out...

[ He's gesturing with his hands as he talks. ]

There'll be a front entrance where most of the off-duty guys'll be sittin' around. They're kinda on unofficial guard duty. Obviously we ain't gonna go in that way, we'd have t'fight th'whole lot of 'em.

We either gotta find another entrance, go through a window, or we gotta distract 'em enough that they don't notice us goin' through.

[ His hands gesture to the next level. ]

Upstairs there's gonna be some office space, less guys up there. Some pencil pushers and whoever's actually in charge of guardin' the safe an' the weapon storage. There'll be th'boss's up there too so a few guys gotta have eyes on his office.

It's fuckin' borin' work though, they'll be watchin' TV or readin' a magazine or somethin' like that. So we can sneak around them, maybe take 'em out quiet before they even know we're up there.

[starshepard]

[ Azem tries to watch his hands but finds herself distracted by the rest of his appearance. He reminds her of a partial transformation or a familiar. Part of her wants to ask, but another part of her feels that might be a little rude, especially with how this place has so many different and interesting people from all over. ]

A window sounds doable. [ She's not a large person so slipping in through a window should be easy.

To the rest, however, she hums thoughtfully. ] If we can do this without hurting anyone, that would be preferable. [ The less evidence they leave behind the better, right? ]

I'll follow your lead, however. Where would the map most likely be kept?

Upstairs. Probably pinned up on a board with their instructions.

[ Asking the average yakuza to manage a computer is no go, half of them barely finish middle school. Which is to their benefit, things will be around in paper form. ]

So if we can go straight t'an upstairs window, cuts our work in half.

[ He glances with a faint smile, ]

How's yer climbin'?

GROUP | WHAT ARE THEY BUILDING?

[ They don't have a lot of time before more Kappa come looking for them, but Majima squints at the machine. He gives it a thoughtful little kick, ]

Th'fuck is this thing?

[wray]

[ majima is asking the wrong person. the erune hovers his hand along the side of the machine to try and figure out where (or what) it's connected, but he stops before going any further. it wouldn't do to trigger any traps now. ]

I've never seen anything like it. Do you think taking a photo would trigger anything...

[ someone's maybe a little too paranoid, but that's probably a good thing. ]

[everblooms]

Hm?

[ From closer to the contraption comes Aerith's voice, a thoughtful tilt to it. She's already snapped a photo, and inspects it from her phone screen. These things are so useful— Six's paranoia has certainly reached her ears, but her desire to help beats out the paranoia. ]

Crap! I took a bad picture.

[ Don't mind her; she'll keep trying to no avail. ]

[ it's probably a good thing that others aren't so paranoid as him. at least now they have evidence that they've found something, even if they have no idea what it is. ]

The lighting around here hardly helps.

[ ... ]

... Is it blurry?

[ He gives the thing another exploratory kick, but it's pretty damn solid. If he really wanted to mess with it, he'd probably need a baseball bat. ]

Get some pics, we can forward 'em quietly t'the other bosses.

[ He adds seriously, ]

Nobody wants their name attached t'this.

[while not in the main group, Emily's keeping close watch on all the points they would use, and particularly looking for sights and sounds that indicate someone's been captured. she has a collection of different ideas she can pull off, but they'll also need the captives' help to take advantage of the lapse in guard.

this naturally has all come with a promise that after everything, she'll see to the injured if there's any. try not to piss them off too bad, and best of luck.

but if you don't have it, well...just give a signal.]

[ He let his guard down a little on the way out, finding himself grabbed from behind by a pair of Kappa. Luckily he's nowhere near the machine, no reason to think he saw shit, but they are ready to escort his ass out. As they approach the street, he manages to yank an arm free and give a sharp whistle. Help. ]

[medicative]

[it's not Emily that'll show up in the next moment - instead, Majima will hear the roar of a motorcycle growing closer and closer, driving up and towards the pair grabbing him. it's a risky maneuver, and it almost seems like they're about to get hit - one lets go, and dives away for self preservation, before the rider brakes a sharp turn.

he can deal with just one Kappa holding on, right?]

Get on.

[the man's voice is easy, even - he's not distressed by being called in for this.]

Uh.

[ It's not like he's never been on a motorcycle though, although... he's probably always stolen them in the past. Still he slings one long leg onto the bike, and while holding onto the rider boots the Kappa still clinging on to him in the face. ]

Fuck, let's go.

[ That kappa is going to remember him for that... ]

[medicative]

[the guy tears off, his speed almost heedless of the obstacles he's facing, and he moves the bike like he was born to it. though, his turns might be a bit too sharp for a human passenger, he trusts that the man he's rescuing knows how to hang the fuck on, and keeps going. silent, but focused - if he loses that, he'll lose control of the bike.

it couldn't have been that long to be on the bike, the speed they were going, but at the same time, seconds felt extended, hyperreal. and where the rider's shadow falls on the pavement, it moves, writhes - takes shapes that don't match up. eventually, they're far enough that he'll pull over, throttling down.]

That should be good enough. They won't bother coming for you at this distance - they've got shit to catch up on.

[stretching his arms over his head, he rolls his shoulders. hardly fast enough for him, just that, but it was a nice little spin.]

[wray]

[ six is likely the last one to get out, if only to make sure everyone else is safe. he doesn't come out of this unscathed but at least he's well enough to find her, glancing over his shoulder to make sure he isn't currently being followed.

the urge to call her name out is high but he knows better than to give themselves away. ]

Am I the last one to arrive?

[ please let it be so. ]

[medicative]

[wrapped in a makeshift gray hood and cloak, she gestures to him when she sees him, hurrying him to the path that'll get him past the now irate guards.]

Yes - Six, you have to be quick.

[they're circling back, after all.]

[wray]

[ six doesn't need to be told twice, hurrying over to the path pointed out to him. he only pauses to gesture for emily to keep going. ]

Lead the way.

[ better him to be the first one caught if it ever comes up. not that he intends on letting it happen, but just in case. ]

[medicative]

[she nods, and begins to run with him, keeping the gray tight around her. there's not a lot of women with wings about, and she needs to stay discreet. but she knows the route she wants to take, and if he comes close enough, she grabs his hand, trying to run with him instead of having to hope he's following.]
