HEY CREW. Sorry this took me a hot minute to get together, life has been a diggity drag.

Here's what we know:

* Majima and Azem went to the Kappa family offices and got a map of the sewers.

* Ethan gave them a tip about how the Kappa's path correlates above ground as well!

* From the mini-event description we know a little: "they’re building something down there."

* The mods approve us to find:

They will probably even catch a glimpse of... the machine.

Which without someone with extensive mechanical engineering experience, they'll genuinely have no idea what it is or what it does. What they can figure out is:

1) The machine is hooked up to the main waterworks, and seems to need a lot of water to function, whatever that function might be

2) It's location is pretty conspicuous, lining up with the location of the central stop on the parade route.

Our crew's skills:

* Majima - Moderately stealthy, has his catnip mouse that lets him walk silently
* Aerith - Sewer sneak extraordinaire
* Azem - Ninja stats
* Six - Assassin stats
* Emily - On distraction duty for escapes

General plan:

* Use the map and Ethan's tips to figure out where to station each person so they can signal to others to proceed.

* If you want to get caught you have the option of either escaping their capture with Emily's help, or actually getting caught and punished! If you want to get caught for real consequences, head over to the Substories page to let the mods know.

Format:

* I'm going to make a a couple of top levels for a full group thread. I'm going to suggest that we don't pay too much attention to tagging order so that it can flow freely. (I know I'm not moving too quickly atm and I'd hate to hold you guys up.)

* Group thread 1: The plan and heading out

* Group thread 2: The machine? (If we do anything to it, we should note it to the mods.)

* The reason I suggest that is you can then make your own top levels below it and break into pairs (or whatever) to tag with whoever meets your speed, so please don't feel like it's exclusionary. It's just to offer different options for engagement. Choose the one that works for you!

* Get with Emily (medicative) if you want a distraction/escape thread! She has a TL here!

* Definitely please try to do whatever you're feeling, I'm not here to constrain you. I really tried to think up a format that would be flexible to everyone.

[they have two options - they can try to outrun them, or they can try and evade them. and seeing an open window nearby, Emily's instincts run to that. on reflex, she grabs the edge with her free hand and vaults in, a fluid thing that she hopes he follows.

if they go in, run up to the roof, and proceed from there - the kappa will have to give it up as a lost cause. troublemakers, but not villains.]

[ six follows after emily almost effortlessly, slipping into the open window without making so much a noise. the trek up to the roof is probably the most harrowing part, if only because he remains on the lookout for any signs that they are being followed.

when it looks like the kappa have given up the chase, six goes ahead and bolts the roof door shut just in case. ]

It doesn't seem like they're still following us.

[that's a relief, and she lets herself breathe, bending over with her hands on her knees to catch her breath now.]

Hopefully none of you touched anything you weren't supposed to...what was even down there?

[ it's only when emily relaxes that the tension in his shoulders finally dissipates. a welcome respite, no matter how short it'll be. ]

Some of us... did touch it, but we didn't leave any evidence behind. [ his hands are gloved, at least. no fingerprints. ] It was a machine of sorts. We took a photo, but it hardly helps.

Could you tell what kind of machine, at all? It's hardly unsurprisingly to find machinery under a city, but the secrecy...

[straightening up, she glances around, relieved that she can't hear any footsteps for now.]

All I know is that it's hooked up to the city's waterworks.

[ even if he knows it won't amount to much, he pulls out his phone to show emily the photo taken. it's so blurry that it might as well have been just darkness alone. ]

We're missing something, here.

[ as for what it is, he has no idea. ]

[coming over to look more closely, she shakes her head. it's dark and it's blurry - it's hard to tell there's anything in it at all.]

Perhaps it's meant to regulate them? Or the kappa building it wish to put forth their own stake in the utilities by controlling water.

... Who knows. Your guess is as good as mine.

[ six stares at the pictures far longer than he'd meant to, and when he realizes that, he shakes his head and puts his phone away. ]

I'm hoping it isn't something we have to worry about in the end.

[medicative]

I wouldn't be so sure. But then again...I can't help but imagine the worst.

[she bears the scars from the "worst", after all.]

Our one blessing is that I haven't heard tales of local gods - there's no Lake Spirit to risk upsetting.

... I wouldn't rule that out just yet.

[ the lake spirit — it's a part of their shared tale that brings along awful vibes whenever it's mentioned. he remembers just how much everyone had to give up in order to survive in hakagemachi. ]

However, I suppose that's still relieving to hear. This place... doesn't feel as though it's on the verge of collapsing.

[ at the very least. ]

[is it so amiss, to worry? she walks over to the edge of the building, peering down into the street below.]

...I think it'd be safe to go home, if you like. And please, tell me everything about the tunnels - I need to be as informed as you.

[ not yet, she says, and he knows he can't refute that. he shakes his head quietly. he won't be going back to his own quarters just yet. ]
