JIGOKUCHO COMMUNITY CLINIC

♬♬♬
Open from eight AM to eight PM, this Lost Soul-maintained clinic has been quietly offering assistance to those in need for the past several months. To those in the know, the red cross sign in the window is a beacon for people who need a professional's eye and who for one reason or another - financial, skeptical, etc. - would prefer the intimacy of a private facility. To those not, the whispers are enough to point you in the right direction, the general agreement to not shout about it and keep it under the radar, for affordable and easily accessed healthcare is worth its own weight in gold

Patients are primarily checked in at the front, and either seen by a doctor or one of the assistants. Everything from basic checkups to immediate care is available, as well as compounded medicine for those with particular ailments. To things that just can't be handled in the private space, the staff will see to the proper referrals. Walk ins are always available - even emergencies, just call the number on the sign with the hours.

For staff and volunteers, there's always something to do. Paperwork, attending to patients, taking turns on the front desk, supply transport and acquisition - there's always an assignment for the day, and a schedule written up to be followed on the local chalkboard. Yes, the space below can be for whatever doodles you want, or just writing in when you'll next need time off. The break room contains one Nice radio, courtesy of a certain audiophile, and whether one is following the intricacies of oni baseball or new tunes, it's treated with respect. The calendar pinned to the wall contains everyone's noted down birthdays as per their hiring sheets, and there is now debate on starting a book club, given the inclination of most working there.

The second floor of the clinic is not yet finished, but Dr. Dyer has plans for it, and it's being worked on during slower shifts. Cleaning, painting, and basic repair is to be expected, as well as getting it ready to include a few more beds for when overnight patients are needed. Out the back door, however, is the most popular place to take a break amongst those working - the herbal garden filled with medicinal plants, steadily maintained along the other tasks at hand. A pair of small benches offers a place to rest one's feet, and the scene of tranquility is complete with the sound of the recently installed fountain - the water within also has healing properties, and is used in treatments. But one doesn't need to be ill to appreciate a calming scene.

The city keeps them busy enough, and the clinic so far manages to persevere, putting down small roots in Hell.

(this is a mingle log for everyone who comes through the clinic through the month of september and onwards. all top levels are welcome, from those already involved to new patients to those curious about the workings. talk to your friends, get someone to look at you bleeding your own blood, help with whatever you like - the sky is yours.

if you have any questions, pm me, otherwise enjoy!) © tessisamess

kerosan will always appear when he is needed

[Well, one couldn't help but be a little curious... but frankly, even the barebones explanation about having trouble with the military was enough of an explanation to him; it's not like it was something he was a complete stranger to.

In the mean time, Eiichi was perfectly fine with answering Yizhi's questions or explaining what he was studying at the time-- in lieu of actually having classes, it did help in cementing understanding and comprehension of new information.

He looks up at him now when he stops in front of him, already used to Yizhi being nosy like that.]
It's about the potential health consequences that can be caused by schizophrenia and psychosis. Things like damage caused from too much cortisol, or causing things like fever and muscle stiffness because it interferes with the nervous system.

It's something I've been wondering about for some time... And it's not a very researched subject in my own time period.

a kerosan is never late, he always arrives precisely when he means to

Schizophrenia and psychosis…

[He repeats the terms under his breath, pondering over it.]

I don’t think it’s very popular where I come from, either. There’re a lot of negative stereotypes around mental health back home.

[Despite his curiosity, Yizhi thinks Eiichi is a very “My Personal Space Is Mine” sort of guy, so he doesn’t try sticking his face closer to read the words. So instead, he offers:]

Where’d you get the book? Maybe I’ll buy a copy too so the publishers know people want to read about these topics.

everyone else is simply early

To be honest I don't understand much about either condition, and they're beyond my area of focus. But it's an interesting subject. The field of mental health is something I've only recently learned about.

[Also maybe relevant to the love of his life I dunno. But while Eiichi wasn't much interested in neurology, it was still interesting, on top of potentially helpful.]

Unfortunately, I found it among the library's reference books, so I don't know anything about the publisher's agenda. But you're more than welcome to borrow it once I'm finished.

[He was already like, halfway through it, honestly. And Yizhi was pleasant enough that Eiichi didn't break out into hives at the thought of sharing small objects like that.]

Mhm.

[He nods attentively. Yizhi feels the same - he’s encountered things like alcoholism and drug abuse when he volunteered at a clinic back home, but not these kinds of disorders. He has enough of a sense of the field to know that it’s not a popular speciality, and he probably wouldn’t have gone into it either… but who knows. He hasn’t even set foot in medical school. And now he has other plans first.]

Could I? Thank you so much, Eiichi-san. I’ll help you return it if you’d like.

[Honestly, this was a mostly sensible clinic with clean, well-behaved staff. Yizhi washes his hands, he’s probably not the worst candidate for book-sharing by a long shot.]

By the way- you know Tamamori-senpai? [Okay, for a certain definition of “well-behaved”. Maybe he’s not well-behaved in all ways one could be well-behaved.]

[personal profile] frogmarched 2022-09-26 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, at least more well-behaved than Eiichi was used to (though, to be fair, among his 'friends,' he was probably the least well-behaved of all--), and he nods in confirmation to Yizhi's follow-up, and while he's not quite smiling, his expression is light and neutral-- which was probably about as cheery as Eiichi got on average.]

Sen...pai...? [Though you could practically see the question marks above his head as he squinted. Tamamori?? Senpai????]

Yeah, I know him from back home. We live together.

[...And while Eiichi seemed content to leave it there, for the moment, suddenly the plump little frog appeared clinging to his head, with a peaceful expression.]

Kawase-san cares about him a whole awful lot~! ♥

[...Much to Eiichi's chagrin.]

[Yizhi simply nods, as if it were supremely self-evident what he meant. He thinks of Tamamori in his native language as Tamamori-xiong, a peer older than him. The other two he’s less acquainted with, so he uses the polite thing to call acquaintances or people in general- -san, -xiansheng in his language. It’s fairly descriptive of his relationships with them when viewed separately, but when compared it’s kind of a backhanded compliment to Tamamori, not gonna lie. Whether Yizhi’s considered this beforehand remains a mystery.]

He doesn’t seem to know that you go by Eiichi here. He kept saying stuff like, “have you met Kawase, he works at the clinic”, and I had to tell him there’s no Kawase at the clinic…

[Yizhi trails off after this at the appearance of Kerosan. Is that…! It must be…!]

[He bends slightly to greet the frog, smiling.] Oh, hello! You must be Frogman Kerosan! Or Kerosan Frogman, I’m not too sure.

[Frankly, it's simply that the idea of Tamamori being able to help anyone in a capacity implied by the word 'senpai' is laughable and also impossible.]

Eiichi is my real name. 'Kawase' is just a childish nickname he's used since we were young. [A childish nickname that he was very protective of, because only Tama and Minakami were allowed to call him that, you see. But despite the actual sentimental nature, Eiichi shakes his head.]

..Just call him Kerosan. [He adds after another moment, expression slightly flatter as the frog continues clinging to his head.]

It's nice to meet you..!! [ :) ] Kawase-san said I could come to the clinic if I tried my best!
