[ Just like he said he would, Katsuki swings around Izuku's place to pick the fucker up. The nerd had even went on about wearing yukata and taking pictures. All of that nonsense that Katsuki is sort of accustomed to when it comes to this particular teenage nuisance. So, in spirit of that, he's definitely picked out something to wear despite the fact that, well, he'd be find just wearing his usual black on black attire.

But Katsuki is ever a perfectionist. So when someone sets expectations, he is going to go above and beyond to meet them or exceed them. Shouldn't be too hard since this is Izuku. But then when the damn nerd comes out - ]

The hell you wearing that for?

[ That's when he decides to look over to see how Izuku is doing. Because is he really going to lose to this guy twice? Back to back? If that's not a blow to his ego, right?

And wouldn't you know it... There's not one fish there but - ]

Two!?

[Izuku jolts, looking at Katsuki and flustering.]

It was just- just luck!

I wanna know how you're getting so damn lucky on this date. The hell, Izuku...

[ Augh! How can he get shitty revenge if the nerd keeps beating him out!?

BUT FINE. He's going to turn his attention back to the fish. ]

[fullgauntlet]

[He called it a date out loud..............]

B-beginner's ... luck?

[A stupidly stammered response...]

[ Nope. Shh. Concentrating. Katsuki is so damn determined to catch one of these stupid fish. The blonde doesn't even move. Barely even breathes. Tunes out everything.

He's taking it seriously. As seriously as any of his heroics courses. ]

[Whenever Katsuki is silent like that Izuku knows that things are getting serious. It's always a little scary when he's so quiet and focused. Izuku almost wants to say something just to fill the air space because he usually can't deal with silence like that.

But he tries his best to watch Katsuki while silently cheering him on... Go, Kacchan, go. He can do it!]

[ This time when a fish swims below his net, Katsuki is careful. He's slow but precise in his movements.

And bam! Katsuki is cackling even as he draws the thing out. Full out laughing. Because it's not really two fish like Izuku.

BUT IT'S LITERALLY ONE OF THE BIGGEST GOLDFISH IN THE FAKE ASS POND. ]

AHAHAHA! SUCK IT!

[fullgauntlet]

Eh-?!

[Oh- There it is! Izuku's eyes go wide in surprise and he cheers,]

Kacchan?! You did it! That fish...! It's huge!

[Is that the biggest one in the whole pond?!]

[ There's maybe one or two bigger, but this is definitely one of the best ones. Katsuki is absolutely thrilled as he slips the thing into the bucket. The attendant? Well they don't look too thrilled but whatever. There will be more people who are unable to get anything. ]

Hope ya got something to keep it in, Izuku.

[fullgauntlet]

[Never did he imagine that he would be getting pet goldfish today on his first date ever in his life.]

I think I can find something- ah! Can we keep them here while we see the rest of the festival?

[Would probably be safer than toting around fish in bags the whole time. The attendant nods.]

Just make sure you get something large enough, all right? It might be a dumb fish but it should at least have a good sized tank.

[ Don't let the fish die, Izuku! The blonde looks over at the attendant. They give each other a glare, but seem to come to an understanding. ]

What else do you want to do?

[fullgauntlet]

[Izuku is practically beaming as they finish up.]

It's not a dumb fish, Kacchan. Since you caught it I want to make sure it has the best life it can have. I'll have to look at getting everything I need.

[And this is how Izuku got a pet goldfish.

Now that it's all done Izuku straightens and smooths out a wrinkle in his yukata before he fidgets with his sleeve.]

It's getting late so... I think the fireworks might be starting soon. Can we find a good spot so we can watch them?

There's only one catch here, Izuku. You can't name it All Might or Toshinori or anything like that.

[ Because he knows that Deku 100% would. Absolutely. Their fish are going to be taken away, stashed until they are ready to leave and head back for the day.

Katsuki stands then, holding out his hand this time. ]

Fireworks, hah? Yeah, sure. Wanna get the best seats in the house if that's the case.

[fullgauntlet]

[Izuku give quite a frown at that, his cheeks puffing slightly as he looks down at his huge new fish.]

What's wrong with the name Toshinori...?

[Don't call him out like that he was totally going to give his massive super goldfish an All Might inspired name. Once he sets the fish aside for pick up later Izuku blinks at Katsuki and his cheeks warm.]

The best seats in the house... I think we'd have to find somewhere high up?

[Like a rooftop or something? But he shyly takes that offered hand...]

Because I know you.

[ Instead the nerd is probably going to give the fish a name from one of All Might's movesets. Augh.

Whatever. He's not going to think about that now. Instead he is going to take Izuku's hand and start walking. ]

If we're gonna go up high, then that's going to be on you. I can't propel myself up anything worth a shit now.

[fullgauntlet]

[Why can't he call his fish DETROIT SMASH??]

Ahh... Your quirk is still...

[Izuku grows a little quiet as he looks down at their joined hands. They still feel warm as Izuku would expect from someone with a thermal-based quirk. But he knows all of their quirks haven't been working right. Has it been bothering Katsuki to not have it? Being born quirkless it never occurred to Izuku's mind that it might be bothering Katsuki.]

Are you alright, Kacchan? It must be strange with your quirk not working like how it's supposed to...?

[ Talking about his lack of a working Quirk... It does make Katsuki tense a bit. That hand flinches and squeezes around the other teen's more. ]

I'm managing. Ain't like I can't live without it for a while.

[ Especially since Izuku had for a long time. Bakugou has no right to complain or really feel any way about it. It's been harder than what he'd care to admit. That's why it's so important to use this time so that he can become reliant upon himself. Not his Quirk. ]

[fullgauntlet]

[Izuku is curious what Katsuki's been going through in that regard. Even if Katsuki brushes the question off he's sure that Katsuki must be feeling some kind of way about it. The flinch and squeeze of his hand make Izuku frown softly. For a few minutes of walking through the festival grounds he forgets some of the noise clattering around them.]

Even without your quirk working at its best, Kacchan, you're still amazing. [He offers even if he's sure Katsuki isn't going to want to hear something like that.] Once your quirk starts working again you won't even remember that it was like this.

[Izuku glances off to the side where there happens to be an old unused street park with a jungle gym. He tugs on Katsuki's hand.]

W-why don't we go sit up there, instead?

[ Honestly? It's not that he wants to here it or not. Has nothing to do with that. Bakugou shakes his head, huffing irritably. ]

You lived fifteen years without a Quirk, Izuku. I can fucking manage a couple of months or even a few years. This shit's nothing.

[ That's the reality of it. What he keeps telling himself about it. That he doesn't really have a right to complain. A right to be too upset. There are people out there who haven't had a Quirk. Who will never have a Quirk. That doesn't...

That doesn't make them actually useless. Or worthless. ]

H-hah?

[ Izuku's tugging him. Shakes him a little free of his guilt-ridden thoughts. Sees the jungle gym and snorts again. ]

...Gonna go for that sort of cliché? Yeah, that's fine.

[fullgauntlet]

[Izuku's expression softens as they start heading towards the old playground jungle gym. He gives Katsuki a look over his shoulder and smiles. Somehow, even as self-deprecating as that is, it gives Izuku some comfort that Katsuki is seeing it how Izuku might have. He's pretty sure Katsuki never would have said something like that to Izuku years before.]

Thanks, Kacchan. I get that but still- I don't think I can imagine you without your quirk.

[He just can't help that he's still a massive fan of Katsuki and his power. It's just something that will never change. His heart is warmed, though.

When they get to the jungle gym the darkness in the sky is getting heavier. The fireworks should be soon.]

Is it cliché if we raced to climb to the top too?

[ That's because Katsuki wouldn't have said that even a little over a year ago. It's taken him some life lessons and no small amount of humbling experiences for Bakugou to really come around.

He appreciates that Izuku says that, though. That he can't imagine Katsuki without his Quirk. That he wouldn't want that for Katsuki is what he really means by it. ]

Don't get me wrong, neither can I. It's just I can manage.

[ But it's not something that they need to fixate on right now. In fact, they really shouldn't be. They're out on a date after all.

So he looks up when Izuku stops just short of the jungle gym. ]

No Quirks.

[fullgauntlet]

[He silently agrees that maybe they don't need to talk about it anymore. Or at least right now since they are on a date together and Izuku wants the two of them to have a good time. Still, he appreciates the sentiments from the blond very much.

Izuku smiles and gives a challenging little nod. It'll be hard enough to run and climb with a yukata on and he hopes he doesn't ruin the obi that Katsuki worked so hard to tie for him.]

Right. No quirks.

[He confirms and then that same little playfully competitive spark sparkles in his green eyes. He counts to three and... Go! Runs and climbs!!]

[ And off katsuki goes! At top speed without any of his Quirk active and able to give him a boost. The rng gods have blessed him with a 19!

He scrambles like a spider monkey himself. Reaching the top!

Before Izuku. In fact he's standing on the top with his hands at his hips and cackling. ]

[fullgauntlet]

Ah?!

[Katsuki climbs up so fast and despite Izuku trying to do his best he just can't beat Katsuki in this today. Soon enough the blond is up there and he's cackling like a maniac.]

Kacchan! How are you so fast at that?! And wearing a yukata too?! That was incredible?!

[Izuku slows and reaches the top bars to reach his hand out. Help him up the last step?]

Ha!

[ Yeah, he's holding out his hand. Right now he's in such a good mood that he doesn't even really realize what he's doing. What he's offering. What he's accepting in return. Bakugou is just enjoying the moment. ]

You know my old hag used to put me in this shit all the time growing up. So of course I know how to move in it.
