[CLOSED] We'll make a marksman out of you yet!
Who ⬤ Hu Tao and Billy
What ⬤ Learning The Way of The Gun
When ⬤ Afternoon around 3-ish. So coffee time
Where ⬤ Shooting Range
Content Warnings ⬤ Gun
[So this was a bit of a surprise that Billy hadn’t been expecting. But that also seemed to be the overall name of the game for this place thus far. Him, teaching someone how to shoot. What has this world come to? There was actually a bit of excitement at the prospect welling up in him. Teaching another person something… there’s a certain draw to it.
Well, Billy supposed he shouldn’t beat around the bush. Given how much the girl in question seemed to enjoy the overall idea of picking it up. He currently had a selection of rifles and other firearms laid out on the table. Including ammunition and a cleaning kit. He’d checked and double checked, and quadruple checked to make sure everything was set.
Did he forget something? Were they going to need something else? No, they shouldn’t. The targets were set, and he’d picked out weapons he’d figured would be well suited for her first time handling a gun.
All he had to do was to sit here and wait-
Calm. As. A. Cucumber.]

That and she had to admit, she just wanted to see if she could learn how to use another weapon now that she had the time.
When she saw a familiar looking face, she immediately rushed over to Billy before giving a wave.]
Look who it is, it's nice to meet you again! I certainly hope you're ready to teach me a thing or two about learning how to shoot.
no subject
[He gives her a smile in return as Hu Tao rushed over. Returning her wave with one of his own and a grin.] So long as you're ready to learn!
[Which, he figures, she very much is.]
On the table first will be safety and how to hold 'em. Like most o' any other weapon out there. Then we'll get to proper shooting.
no subject
Narrowing her eyes, she leaned closer to see just how one might hold said weapon.]
From what I remember, you hold it as if it was a regular weapon. However, one of your fingers is supposed to go through the hole, correct?
[...Right??]
no subject
[He hums a little in thought.]
Anyway, first off ya wanna always act like these things are loaded, even if you know they're not. Like all weapons ya never point 'em at other living things, unless you really need to use 'em. An' even then, you gotta commit to it when you do. They ain't toys an' have only one use in mind, an' one only.
[He goes ahead and gives her the whole firearm safety while he's at it. The first part of using any sort of weapon was learning how to use it safely and with respect, after all. Firearms were no different in that regard to polearms or knives in his mind.
Just different tools with different ways of doing the job.]
Ah- as for actually holding them. What you wanna do for these is to hold 'em flush against your shoulder. Like so-
[Billy, in turn, goes ahead and grabs a rifle, pointing it down range. Cheek resting against it, dominant hand near the trigger and the other steadying the weapon. Loosening his grip, Billy turns the Winchester over towards Hu Tao.]
Go on ahead, get a feel for it. It's gonna be a bit heavier than it looks, but that's somethin' you'll get used to.
[Again, like most weapons.]
no subject
Alas, perhaps it was not meant to be! Or at least, not yet with her current knowledge.]
I see. In other words, you need to hold onto tightly but not so much. I wasn't aware that it could have the same momentum as that of a polearm. Those guns sure have a lot of power!
[But as she held the Winchester on her hands, she kept looking at it. This was a little different compared that to a polearm. She was well aware of how powerful this weapon could be and to have it in her hands? It was oddly strange to know how strong this small thing could be.
Still, has she held it in a similar fashion like Billy, she raised an eyebrow at him.]
You mean like this? I must admit, this rather heavy but I suppose this is something I'll have to get used to. [She said before taking a small step back!]
no subject
[He gives her posture a look over for a moment. Then goes ahead and picks up a rifle himself and holds it in demonstration once more.]
Now, ya wanna hold the stock flush and tight into the crook o' your shoulder; with your non-dominant side, the one that doesn't have it pressed into your shoulder, pointing out towards your target. When you fire it's going to kick, so you want to have held solid against you and lean into it just a bit. Try an' keep it close to your centerline-
Place your cheek against the stock, the part that's nearest your shoulder firmly. Keep your feet apart like you're holding your spear. Like it, you wanna keep your body balanced. [He taps his chin a little more while looking over her form.]
...When linin' up the sites, the little metal bits you see standing up, you want the tops to line up with one another with the front kept near center. Give it a try with the targets, an' make sure ya keep your finger off the trigger and pointing outside the guard. Ya only touch the trigger when you're absolutely certain you're ready to fire.
[He gives her an encouraging smile as she steps back. This was... actually kind of a nice feeling. Teaching, that is. Billy wasn't certain how well of a job he was doing so far, but it was nice.] Once you get used to holding them, we can load one up and start shootin'. Each one has a different feel and make.
no subject
As much as she wanted to say something, she knew this was one of those times where she kept silent. After all, if he was teaching her something, it was better to listen to everything. Trying her best to keep up with everything he was saying, she occasionally looked at her feet to make sure she was at the correct stance. Or even just looking to see if the rifle was indeed over her shoulder.
Checking to see if the various parts were in place, that’s what she gave a nod.]
Is that so? It is rather heavy but it is something I’ll have to get used to! Hopefully this will give me some good shoulder muscles.
[Granted, as she was shifting her weight, it was fairly uncomfortable. However, this was something from someone who was used to wielding a polearm.]
It makes me wonder how you can use them without falling back!
no subject
[At least, these ones wouldn't. It does get him to start thinking that maybe he should have grabbed something else to have her learn with. Placing his rifle down on the table, he nods, watching her stance. Yeah, she got it down. It wasn't that difficult and mostly just a change in pace.]
Why not give it a try now? Each one has their box of ammunition next to 'em. I'll show ya how to load it up and we can get shooting.
no subject
[Granted, there was a hint of worry. She didn't want to let it show but she can handle this, right? Despite her small stature, she wanted to prove to Billy she can be just as cool as he could be!]
Now tell me, how do we put these things in the rifle?
no subject
Alright, so different rifles are gonna have different ways to load the ammunition into 'em. The one you got there uses the loading gate on the side, that's the slot you see right there; an' can hold up to 15 rounds. It uses a lever system to eject used bullet casings and feed a new round into the chamber.
[He goes ahead and demonstrates with his own, taking his time load them all in.] Once you load all the bullets inside you cock the lever to load a fresh round inside the chamber. Ya don't have to completely load it if you don't want to.
no subject
Shifting her weight, she was trying to figure out how to copy what he was doing as she tried to unload her rifle.]
I see, it certainly is interesting how you always have to be aware of how many you have. I can't imagine what it must be like to have none in the heat of the moment!
[She said before struggling to unload said rifle. Such is the tragedy of living in a time period where these things does not exist yet.]
no subject
[He watches her as she places the ammunition inside the firearm. Still easy going in his whole demeanor.] Reloading can be a pain in the heat of things, and it's naturally to drop things during it or fumble it.
[There was a bit of a thoughtfulness added into his voice. It's something that's more than marginally terrifying, was the thought that entered his head. These things are loud, powerful, and outright dangerous in ways many other weapons are not. Briefly his vision flashes to take him somewhere else. But Billy snaps himself out of that reverie quickly enough.]
Alright, so when you're ready do your best to keep your breathing nice and even. Slow and steady, slowly inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth. Relax your jaw, your body and let your anxieties kinda melt away to the point where you can feel how your body moves an' be a bit more aware of what's around ya.
[He keeps his own, loaded gun in hand and pointed down range. Billy wouldn't fire, not quite yet. He wants to make sure she was relaxed and ready.]
When you're ready you want to squeeze the trigger after exhaling. Don't pull it. Just squeeze it enough to feel that resistance. Let shot kind of surprise you, try not to anticipate it too much otherwise that anxiety might build back up.
And... take your time with it.
no subject
She might have a feeling of what he might say, she was aware of what it was like to be in the heat of the moment during battle. One wrong move and everything will go badly. She didn’t want to bring up any unpleasant memories.
Instead, once she finished loading her gun, she placed the rifle back on her shoulders once more. Listening to his words, she had to keep her aim slow and steady.]
In other words, I just need to stay relaxed but focused right? I think I could manage that.
[Or at least, she hoped so. This was different from the weapons back home. Narrowing her eyes at the range, she took in a deep breath before squeezing said trigger. It wasn’t enough to shoot but just enough where it might should she move any further.]
That wasn’t too bad, I think I got the hang of it! [And here, she sounds so proud!]
no subject
[Stay calm, keep your wits about you and such. Something he'd always taken as being natural given it was something he'd also spent most of his life going through. Always watch what was going on around you, keep your mind clear, so on and so forth.]
Haha! I think ya do. It's not that hard, is it. Use it enough and get a good feel for them, an' it'll feel like it's part of ya.
[Slowly he started to eject the bullets from his own firearm before laying it on the table once he was certain it was empty.]
Alright, why not try and hit a few of the paper and clay targets out there?
no subject
Being aware of the backlash she could get, she placed herself into a fight stance before pulling said trigger. The moment she could feel the force attempting to pull her back but she didn't.
As she saw the bullets hit said paper and clay targets? She couldn't help but give a giggle or two.]
Did you see that? I can't believe it, I actually manage to hit them with the bullets! How amazing!
[Nevermind that it was only one or two that actually hit the targets but good enough!] I can't wait to try it again!
no subject
There was a laugh being drawn from him to go along with her giggles.]
Haha! Yeah, I did! Looks like you're a natural-born desperada~!
[His smile only grows and becomes warmer at her excitement.]
Ain't so bad once you get started, is it?
no subject
[She said before taking a closer look at her targets. Again, it wasn't quite what she wanted but it was better than nothing! In fact, she couldn't help but to give off a pride smile!]
This certainly does remind me of when I first started using my polearm. The thrill and excitement of knowing that I did something successful amazes me sometimes.
[That said, she looked at any other targets before looking back at Billy.] I have to admit, as easy as it looks, it certainly must have taken you quite some time to master it.
no subject
Pickin' up something new is always a thrilling and wonderful feeling. Learning something different can be beyond fun. Even more when you succeed at it.
[He gives her targets a look over again himself. Yep, not bad at all! She'd be more than a capable marksman if Hu Tao decided to keep it up.]
Yeah, it took quite a bit of time, dedication, experience, and practice. That's usually true for most things out there. Keep on practicin' and I'm sure you can get better than me.
no subject
[She said before attempting to place said rifle over her shoulder and attempting to shoot the targets once more.]
In fact, I might take over your title of the best shooter out of the entire area! How can you handle that?
no subject
[Heh~, he's super amused now. Hu Tao, you way too cute girl!]
no subject
[That said, she took a deep breath in before pulling the trigger. While this time, she did take a step back from the force, she still managed to hit the target!]
no subject
[He laughs, watching her continue to practice.]
Now, like I said, hold it a bit tighter and firmer against your shoulder. Otherwise, it can fly outta your hands. Other than that, go on and keep practicin' till ya bag 'em all. By the end of it your shoulder'll be hurtin' somethin' fierce. But that's normal.
