[Fumikage doesn't normally go out looking for stray animals, but he does notice the pained whimpering coming from down one of the nearby alleys. When he follows it, he stumbles upon a stray mutt of a dog, whimpering with an injured leg. He moves to its side carefully, trying to help it calm down.]

Do not worry, I won't leave you alone.

[He's not an expert with animals the same way his classmate Koji is, but he can at least help keep an injured dog calm. This is probably where Izō will find him, using one hand to gently pet the dog's head while he uses the other to browse his phone, looking for the nearest vet clinic.]

[ Izō had been looking for this particular dog, tracking it to the same alley. He stops when he sees Fumikage, immediately posturing. Not that he thinks someone is going to be intentionally hurting the dog, more that he doesn't know if they're a threat to him or not.

It's not a great instinct to have. ]

Oi, ya gotta dog there, right?

[The sharp yell is enough to make Fumikage look up sharply, blinking in surprise. He lowers his phone and nods.]

Ah... yes, I do. But I believe it is injured.

[He looks down at the pooch at his side, giving it another pat on its head. The dog lets out a little whine, tail thumping once.]

Do you happen to know where the nearest vet clinic is? I have been having a hard time finding one...

[ Is that a youkai...? Not that Izō himself doesn't look like one, either, but that's beside the point.

He'd question Fumikage about that more, but it can wait. There's something much more important to take care of. ]

Yeah, there's one that ain't real far from here...Think it's alright t' carry 'em?

[ He can't really assess the injury himself from back here. The fewer people crowding the poor little creature, the better. Less risk of either of them getting bitten that way. ]

[He's not, but it wouldn't be the first time he was confused for one of the local tengu! Fumikage does look curiously at the other man, but he's not going to ask right now either. They have more important matters at hand.]

I think so? I am just not sure about whether it would jostle its leg too much.

[Fumikage tries to lift the dog, but it lets out a whimper and tries to squirm away. Fumikage doesn't try to push too hard, backing off quickly. He's really trying not to hurt it more!]

I fear we may need to move it even if it protests...

[ Izō makes a face and moves in closer. ]

'ere, lemme. Seen this one 'round before...Might trust me a li'l more'n ya -- no offense, I've jus' been feedin' 'em. Ya know how dogs are.

Of course.

[Fumikage nods and shuffles back as Izo moves closer. He does so carefully so as not to startle the dog, who seems to perk up a little and wag their tail more at seeing a familiar face.]

Do you know if this one belongs to anyone? Or if they are a stray..?

A stray...far as I can tell, anyway.

[ He carefully scoops up the dog, cradling them in his arm close to his chest. ]

I try t' keep 'em from gettin' hurt, but ain't like I can watch 'em all th' fuckin' time.

Hm.. that is unfortunate.

[Fortunately it loos like the dog is very content to curl up int Izo's grasp, even though they are still in pain.]

It is difficult work, especially in a city this large. It is good that you are helping them at all. I heard this one crying out, and... well, I could not leave them be.

[ Izō isn't one to give thanks easily or at all most of the time. Someone going out of their way to help one of his chosen wards means a lot to him. He turns away, looking back over his shoulder. ]

C'mon, since yer th' one that found him...Ya gotta see this through, right?

[Fumikage blinks in surprise at the question, then nods, falling in line behind Izō.]

Of course. I would not abandon something halfway if I could see it through.

[And he means it wholeheartedly. That's not something a real hero would do, after all!]
