[ Izō looks back over his shoulder with a somewhat annoyed look, then shrugs. He looks back down at a small, fuzzy black puppy that jumps up at him for attention, obliging it with surprisingly gentle pets. His expression softens, undeniably fond. ]

Strays gotta take care'a each other. 'S all.

One hell of a stray. [ Nishitani's only known Izo as a kept boy, Majima's and Emily's both. Nishitani has to admit he's also grown fond of Izo, and not just because of proximity. A mean little cunt when he wants to be, wilful and mouthy-- ah, whatever. Iichan's cute. That's that. ]

Know a couple of people that'd call your shit on being one, though.

[ As much as he hates to admit it, he's grown fond of Nishitani, too. It's why Izō's not trying to posture more right now and is willing to be even slightly vulnerable in front of him. ]

I ain't no more, but... [ His brow furrows as he scoops the puppy into his arms. ] I used t' be. Only things that gave a shit 'bout me back then were the strays in Kyoto.

[ He could elaborate further, but he doesn't want to. Picking at old wounds never helped anything. He'd been kicked out of the Tosa Loyalist Party and left alone in the capital after his master was taken back to Tosa. Everyone had left him behind. It's not like a murderer on the run from the law could really make connections without putting themselves in danger, anyway. ]

You're not there anymore, you know. [ Nishitani blows out smoke as another dog runs past him and towards Izo, looking enough like the puppies to likely be a parent. He watches, for a moment-- ]

[ He's been trying to convince Majima of the same thing, he's been worrying a rock that likely will never budge. But Izo isn't Majima, and maybe he can redirect the energy he'd been forcing elsewhere to a channel with more... give. ]

You've got money, status, rank. Only an idiot would go against you now, Iichan. If you care so much about these strays, why not do it properly?

[ He's about to yell about how he knows he's not there anymore, but Nishitani's question catches him off guard. Izō ruffles the mother dog's fur with a grin, muttering something only meant for her. The puppies rush over in a chaotic little swarm to greet her.

With the puppies distracted, he takes a moment to stand up and dust himself off. ]

...Eh? Whaddya mean? Ain't this proper?

Get a roof over their head. [ Nishitani watches the swarm of animals that circle around Izo's ankles, their barking and nipping already making Nishitani feel exhausted instantly. God. Izo at least has the energy to handle fucking puppies. ]

Spend your money on a shelter or something.

[ He tilts his head to the side. ]

...Ya really think a guy like me can manage somethin' like that?

[ Izō finds it odd still for people to encourage him to find other pursuits. In his mind, the only thing he's good for is killing. Managing a shelter, taking care of all these dogs...Is someone like him really capable of it?

He isn't sure. ]

You already are. [ Keeping them fed, safe, and happy is half the game. Nishitani's funded orphanages before, shelters, that kind of shit-- too much hot money he needed to filter off, but still, it meant he looked into the running of something like that, he knows the skeleton of a business model for pounds. ]

[ Nishitani shrugs dramatically, walking over to Izo and throwing his arm around the younger man's shoulders. The puppies now bite at his ankles too, but it's fine. They're cute to make up for it. ]

Since you're so concerned about them, baby boy.

[ Izō glares at him for both the nickname and the arm around his shoulders, but that's as far as his protest goes. ]

Quit callin' me that. [ A huff. He turns his head, looking away. He looks back at Nishitani without turning his head. ] ...Know anythin' 'bout settin' this kinda shit up? 'Cause I sure fuckin' don't.

[ He needs help and he's extremely bad at asking for help. ]

[ Nishitani feels a knife between his ribs, the sudden realization that he could fleece Izo for everything like this. If the kid lets him set up a buisness, Nishitani could take advantage, could take everything from Izo without the other even knowing, without even realizing what Nishitani's done. ]

[ It's what Nishitani would normally do. Offer to set up a business, for a cut. Use the records to wash out dirty money. If it's charity-- a not for profit, even better. Donating to one you own through shells companies; simple, effective, and classic for a reason. Izo knows none of this. ]

[ The thought passes, and unlike before, Nishitani refuses the temptation. Logically, he knows Majima would see right through the rug pull, that shitting where you sleep is a bad fucking idea-- but Nishitani knows that the reason he's not going to absolutely sink his teeth into Izo's pulse is because he likes the kid. ]

You're talking to someone who could do it in their sleep, baby. [ Ignoring the request for any other name to be used. ]

[ It's better that Nishitani doesn't indulge that impulse. Izō doesn't take betrayal on that level well. Nishitani would quickly discover the vengeful, murderous side of him, the one that made him such an effective assassin.

It's a moot point. Izō should know better than to trust an old horny, violent yakuza, but he does. Nishitani's grown on him and has proven himself trustworthy. Surely he wouldn't throw that trust back in Izō’s face. ]

Guess yer good for somethin' else, daddy.

[ He's obviously not too pissed off about the nickname. ]

[ Nishitani leans in, kisses at Izo's jaw and neck, licking where blood runs hot under skin. Izo is a cat, begging for something he wants but unwilling to admit to that desire. Fights the nicknames, yet here he is... what a brat. ]

Only for my baby boy. [ Out and public, with puppies at their shoes-- but it's private enough, it's romantic enough, and Nishitani thinks Izo deserves something nice for once. Everyone does, and Nishitani is the only one honest about it anymore. ]

[ Izō has trouble accepting anything nice. He'd be the first person to say he doesn't deserve it. He doesn't deserve the love of several people, the attention of anyone, nor this chance to do something besides be used as a killer.

A glimmer of hope feels nice, though.

He draws back, nudging Nishitani away a little so he can kiss him properly, letting it linger. This is getting out of hand now, but when has that ever stopped Izō? ]

'Ey, later... [ Another little kiss. ] I'll thank ya real proper for all this later.

[ Because he doesn't quite know how to say thanks in a healthy way. ]

Come over tonight. I'm dyin' to use your mouth and Andy'll love you for a cocksleeve. [ Nishitani kisses into Izo's mouth, licks behind his teeth, curls closer and closer the more Izo gives and gives. It's only when Izo pulls back that Nishitani relents; stays close but lets some space come between them. ]

[ Good thing Nishitani doesn't care about doing things "the healthy way." ]

[ He still has shit to take care of here, though. It's hard not to just give into Nishitani now and take more and more until things are so far out of his control he can't stop. For once, his horny brain loses the battle. Izō backs off entirely so he can get back to what he was doing. ]
