Who ⬤ Emily and open! What ⬤ Monthly catchall - clinic work, music club, etc. When ⬤ Over May. Where ⬤ Across the city. Content Warnings ⬤ TBA if needed.
[Club Rosolio, in Sutoku territory, is known for their live music, for the acts handpicked by the managers and how they can be new or old on the scene, but nevertheless harmonious. it's better than being known for the temperaments of some of the staff, with the dramatics that take place their own form of entertainment. as it is, Emily just tries to keep her head down and move on, here for her job as a singer and little more, though she does end up playing mediator three days out of six.
in any case, Emily does enjoy her work there, whether she's singing solo through her setlist or performing as one half of La Force, her duet act with Ritsu. really, she takes cues from him on how to behave and how to negotiate with a crowd. compared to some of the others, she's more subdued, slower, but she has some fans of her own and her performances offer a bit of a reprieve from the more intense ones. it means she has a solid place there, and it's reliable to ensure she keeps a decent roof overhead.
when not singing on stage, though, she's occasionally on the floor, mingling with customers as might be required or at the bar getting water before planning her next move. and of course, she might be walking away from a pair of people looking somewhat exhausted, having just defused a situation before it could start. who hired all these people to work under the same roof? who cares about a rug's color so deeply as to fight over it?
still, it offers its own charm, and she won't give up on it yet.]
[He was working the bar today and slid her the desired water in turn. One of the few perks of the part time job being the free shows. Even more when the show ends with him not having to throw hands. In short, an easy going night where he gets paid is the best kind of night.]
Wouldn't have takin' ya to be an entertainer though. Bit of a polymath aren't ya?
[she hardly expected to see him here, but even the hardest working souls in this club took time off and brought in others. lifting the glass a little to him in thanks, she sips from it before she can answer the question.]
It's not what I saw myself doing, but it pays. Besides, it offers a bit of a reprieve from tending to the assorted ills and woes of the populace, and lets me have time for my own plans.
[if she joined with an existing medical clinic, her hands would be tied in ways she hated. it had to be independent, even if she had to work so hard towards it.]
That means they trust you with a few things at once. To give people the right orders, to remember how to make them all, and to keep a close eye out for those causing a ruckus.
[it's a busy and complicated job. he should give himself a slight bit more credit, in her view.]
[Billy supposed that was the case, even if he himself merely viewed it as being just another check. Still, trust... in him? Well that was something he doesn't hear all that often. To trust an outlaw was silly. But this woman doesn't know that, and he hasn't really shared it with anyone.]
Haha! I suppose they must! Still awful kind of ya to say that. Not just a pretty voice, but a gorgeous and big heart too.
[he might make her blush if he keeps on with that, her expression says, but she just sips her water.]
Nowhere, if I'm to be truthful. I merely sang to amuse myself from time to time, and I'm no dedicated student of music. Though I am practicing more now that I have this position.
[so she's rougher around this edges in this compared to others, but she can at least manage, particularly with a friend to be her duet partner.]
[Oh dear, she's far too much of a sweet heart! He goes ahead and cleans a few glasses in the mean time.]
Well folks do tend to pick some surprising things when tryin' to entertain themselves. Singin' and hummin' is a good sort of practice.
[Billy himself should know, a person can pick up a surprising amount of things as they while away the time.]
As for your question, 'bout the same. Been around a number of bars and worked at a few to get by. Ended up learnin' a few things along the way. Nothin' spectacular or anythin' but enough to tell what's a beer and what ain't. Can't really say I'm all that much o' a fan of drink, though!
[He chuckled, it really all brought back memories. Some good, and some bad.]
Haha! A good head on your shoulders too. Right ya are, miss Emily. Keepin' things in moderation is always best compared to the other extremes. Know of a few stories on that front, some humorous, others not so much.
[The whole temperance bit certainly brings back memories.]
Oh- but this is just somethin' for the side is it? Imagin' ya must've found yourself employed at some clinic or hospital.
[Which means, yeah she probably wouldn't see any judgement from this side of the bar over prioritizing her day job. Billy might actually encourage her to take it further if it was something she's passionate about.]
[it's not going to be hers, just her name on the license.]
I've noticed enough in this city that a good portion of clinics are often more...timid about accepting patients affiliated with the clans, or may overcharge them. So the simplest solution is to put together our own. One that does not consider one's personal standing to be a factor in their care.
[it was a very straightforward idea, but it was honest.]
Of course, personally, I'll do my best to respect the Alliance and all that's asked of me. But in terms of medicine...that's not something that should be limited.
[Honesty was probably in short supply, at least it was in his experience. Too many people looking to profit, far too few to help others profit. Too many trying to avoid getting had.]
Awful forward thinkin' and industrious of ya. Already got funding and a place set up then?
[He's very obviously not associated with the medical field at all. But it doesn't take much for a person to know just how much running a clinic costs.]
For now. The former will require work to maintain, but I'm touched by the number of people who have come forth to put in any degree of effort or assistance to make this reality. Once it's solidified, it should sustain itself - as long as no one is very foolish about things.
[sipping her water, she makes sure to meet his gaze.]
I trust that I can rely on your discretion. One wouldn't want the clans to look too closely at such a gray area.
[in other words, don't put this on the network, and don't be stupidly advertising it.]
[ club rosolio: one of the nicer clubs in non-tamamo territory. robin's mission? to infiltrate, explore, and research what they do. it's not that he's looking to sabotage their daily operations, but figure out if there are ways to make the bar that he works in much more appealing to those who are looking for a drink and some entertainment.
but he doesn't expect to catch emily toward the end of her set, watching and listening in awe, waiting to catch her as soon as she is off the stage. ]
That was amazing! [ her solo performance... she's certainly earned herself a new fan. ] I didn't know you could do that, what's your secret?
[ not that there has to be one. robin's just playing around. ]
[seeing Robin, she gives a modest bow of her head, her smile gentle and utterly unlike the confidence that Ritsu was teaching her to utilize on stage. he's not who she expected to drop in, but any audience is a good audience, and she's happy for it.]
My secret? Goodness, most of the credit falls on the band and all the other staff for their hard work. With their efforts, I look capable enough.
It's not the looks I'm talking about! I mean, you're very pretty... but...
[ and if robin was only attracted to those, then that'd make him a pretty shallow boy. instead? he claps his hands together lightly, fingertips gently brushing together. ]
... it's your voice. Your song. It's been a long time since I've heard another person like that.
[ even though his vampires can't lie in their music, he's pretty sure that no one in general can. "fake it 'till you make it" can only get you so far and someone like him who has a very good ear... ]
So of course I'm enjoying it! Especially 'cause you're a doctor, too!
...Oh. In that case, thank you for your kind words.
[the color that creeps into her cheeks is slight, but it's there, even as she smiles again. she could protest that this is her side job, but the words feel like a true compliment, and so she swallows that.]
You speak with the confidence of an expert - I'm flattered that I could win your approval.
Oh yes. I actually have a partner I sing with some nights - you'll see us on the list as La Force, and he's far more versed in this sort of thing than I am. Really, you should come back some time and see him in action, for he's who I'm taking most of my cues from.
[Ritsu's younger than her, but in terms of experience, she feels like a novice next to him - it's a privilege to gain from his insight.]
I can only imagine it's even more exciting in a whole group!
[ it's probably good for robin to meet other performers, especially one that is probably as close to a vampire as one can get without actually being one... or is he?! either way. ]
Doctor... do you mind if I ask you a potentially personal question?
[ he blinks innocently, coming to close to batting his eyelashes for further emphasis. ]
[ because it doesn't feel like a question that shouldn't be asked? but unfortunately, robin's made a few connections in his brain and the curiosity has been piqued. ]
... so I'm sorry if it is, but! [ a pause, then: ] Do you know a man with black feathery wings with a very... um... rude disposition...
Yes, I've known them both for quite a while, from where we were before being brought here. I know, he has a certain demeanor, but believe me when I say he's not always like that.

Me? Nah, I'm not good for much, a bit of a one-trick pony ya could say!
[There was a laugh as he said it, certainly not talent like she was showing. He didn't think so anyway.] Most I'm good for here is servin' drinks.

[which meant she had been cutting it closer more often to be on time for this one. but still, she hadn't missed a set yet.]
I prefer things I can savor, anyway. It keeps me from overindulging - moderation is easier practiced than temperance, after all.
