[ Well, he had some cash to spare... it was fine, for the moment. But the tension hadn't quite slipped away either. It was actually not fine. ]

Before I say anything, I should probably ask who it is, exactly, I'm speaking to.

[ He sits back, teasing his sake cup back over to himself with his fingers. He picks it up and swirls the liquid in it with a pleased look on his face. Sake is definitely Chijoku's one true love. ]

Chijoku, of the Uwabami Clan. Which I suppose, at the moment, is a subsidiary of the Shuten Clan.

[ He cackles to himself, fangs bared with his laughter. Ridiculous, it's just absolutely ridiculous. Snakes in an Oni clan, too funny. ]

[ Lio kept his cup in his hand, but didn't sip from it... not yet. His eyes were still locked on the man before him, studying... ]

I'm curious... you said you want to know more about me. All Majima really knows is my name... isn't that really enough, in a situation like this?

You could say it's partly nature. Like I'm driven to "burn", as hot and bright as I can.

[ Chijoku does moue as though in sympathy, but... really it's pretty clear the snake does not care. The snake just wants to drink, which is slightly more fun to do with company. ]

[ Lio snapped his fingers, a bright, neon burst of flame appearing suddenly, but just as quickly flashing away. ]

You asked what the line is between recklessness and carelessness was. The truth is, that was something I never really understood myself, before. But someone else taught me... someone I aim to get back to.

So I'm going to borrow a bit of that man's burning spirit for my own. It's something I think Majima understands...

[ He couldn't say that for certain, of course. He still barely knew the guy. But it just felt... right, somehow. ]

[ The Uwabami is a water elemental. Slow and steady, immovable. He has spent a hundred years sleeping in the bottom of a warm sake decanter. He is particularly unmoved by little fire elementals. ]

I would drink you down in an instant.

[ A big fangy smile, threatening. ]

Majima, on the other hand, will burn nicely for a good long while. I have nearly stoked his heat to a comfortable level.

[ His poor little host was burning low after all the torture and mind games, but here in Jigoku-cho he is fanning awake again. It's lovely to luxuriate in for Chijoku. ]

Your relationship with Majima isn't really my business...

[ Lio leaned back again, sipping his drink. In truth, he had no interest in fighting this snake. He didn't feel like he had anything to prove. Yet... ]

But I would prefer you not cause trouble for him, all the same. So if you don't mind, I'm putting these drinks on my tab.

[ The snake contemplates him, expression relaxed. Then he breaks his gaze to get out a cigarette. ]

[ The tension did seem to ease up, once that was out of the way. Lio didn't relax completely, but he at least allowed himself to actually enjoy his drink. ]

Majima didn't have to help me acclimate myself to this world. I am grateful to him for that.

Yes, he is very sweet. He wishes to protect others from suffering, where he was not protected.

[ Majima would not appreciate the snake saying it like that, but Majima gets no voice at the moment. Chijoku stretches his back in his chair, exhaling a big plume of smoke before pouring another cup. ]

I don't think I'd use the word "sweet", even if what you say is true.

[ It did give some insight on the 'why' of Majima... he couldn't say he didn't appreciate it. But he also felt like this wasn't fair, to be hearing it like this. ]

Truthfully, I'd rather you didn't say much more about him. If he feels I have a right to know, he'll tell me himself.

Come now, you're hardly afraid of impugning his reputation are you? What is so unlikely about being 'sweet'.

[ Chijoku hiccups, giggles to himself and then turns his attention back on Lio with a swaying grin. ]

You don't want all of his little secrets? Such a noble little thing.

[ He lowers his voice, the whisper conspiratorial, ]

He thought he was very noble too and they showed him otherwise.

[ The snake springs back, clapping his hands with laughing delight. Humans are so fucking pathetic, it never fails to give him a laugh. ]

It's not about nobility.

[ And something tells him, that wasn't it for Majima, either, whatever it ultimately was that this other person is referring to. ]

It's about showing respect to someone who showed me the same. You can think of that what you will, but it doesn't change how I feel about it.

[no_kyouken]

[ Chijoku flaps a dismissive hand, bored with that entire line of thinking. ]

Yes, yes.

[ He hums cheerfully to himself, it really doesn't matter to him. ]

I'm sure he will teach you a thing or two, little brother. He's more clever than he looks.

[ He is mean, like a snake, but he does like his sweet little Majima. He can throw in a compliment here and there, sort've. ]

[ Another sip, and... ]

By the way, Chijoku... What do you intend to do after we're done here at this bar?

[ The question was even toned, but it was also obviously pointed. Lio wanted to know just how mean this little snake intended to be, and if he'd have to actually step in. He didn't know how get Majima back in control of his own body, but he wasn't about to simply leave him alone, either. ]

[ The snake considers this, they probably would have just stayed here until the bar closed. Wandered back home to fall asleep in their bed. He's slightly less destructive than he makes himself out to be. ]

[ He spreads a big fangy smile. ]

I see your tastes are a bit old fashioned.

[ He didn't exactly see sitting in front of incredibly loud gambling machines as a good time, but if it meant keeping an eye on the situation, he could tolerate it. He hoped his wallet could, too. ]

Such a rude way to talk to an elder.

[ But the snake is smiling and doesn't seem all that offended. He throws back his drink. ]
