jigokulogs | [open] a real nightmare

[ He expects some manner of bullshit from the gyokuto, but he just gives her a look and accepts the thing with a low 'thanks'. He eats it as he walks, waiting for whatever is going to happen and he supposes it could be worse. He eventually stops by the river, sitting on the grassy slope alongside the road and tugging off his jacket and his button up impatiently. He tosses them aside with a sigh. Shoes and socks are next, but he's not shameless enough to shuck his pants.

He's pretty eye catching like that, his back is covered in a very distinctive tattoo. The white hannya on his back stares out at every passerby. ]

[ He crosses his arms as the shirime explains the situation to him. His good eye narrowed with suspicion. Why is he talking to an asshole eyeball anyway? ]

[ Considering who he's talking to though... He shakes his head in annoyance. A nosy kejourou pipes up that they know where this fated vending machine is and Majima narrows his eye at them too, ]

Fess up now, is it a dirty magazine machine?

[ How much of his fucking day does he want to waste on a smut rag, seriously. ]

📱 MAJIMA & GOROMI

[ There's yet another one of those figurines on the counter of the convenience store Majima has stopped in to for cigarettes. He's reaching past it to pay the cashier when he accidentally knocks it over. It smashes on the tile floor and... this is unfortunately an event he's familiar with: smashing cursed objects and getting knocked the fuck out.

His good eye rolls back and he crumples to the floor. Just as the store clerk and other shoppers are starting to shake him...

He seems to wake up, rubbing where his head hit the floor. He shakes off the dizziness and then flicks his eye up at the people around him. A faint, fangy little smile, ]

I am just fine, thank you.

[ But anyone who knows Majima knows that isn't his voice, knows that isn't his smile. The snake picks their body up off the floor, brushing down their pants free of dust and then waving a cheerful goodbye. He plucks the pack of cigarettes off the counter and leaves without his change.

The next stop is, of course, the bar. The possessed Majima can be found piling up on food and sake in one of the Shuten owned locations. It's an astonishing amount! He also invites anyone who looks interested to come drink with him, chatting away cheerfully.

Unfortunately, at the end of this little binge, Chijoku will discover that there is not cash on hand to cover it all. Majima has begun hiding the money from him so that he cannot waste it all... just... like... this...

The snake holds up their hands in placation, giving a whispery laugh, ]

How unfortunate.

[ There is an extremely tall snake woman in sunglasses and glaring bright neon green dress. It's been cut to allow her tail through the back and the thin fabric shows the presence of the large tattoo on her back and the thin black stripe of her lace underwear underneath. She's wearing a pair of black ankle boots, the heels of which have an already decently tall person entirely towering. She has long black hair and red lipstick, her pale white snake scale glittery with some kind of body oil. Even her perfume is noticeable: fruit, sandalwood, rose.

She's looking through dresses, makeup, jewelry, perfume. She's not opposed to being social while she looks, she might even hold up a dress in front of her body and inquire, ]

Whaddya think?

[ She has a lilting, informal way of speaking; Osaka-ben pitched falsetto. She also really doesn't entirely pass but seems comfortable enough regardless. What do you think? Want to go shopping? ]

[ Honestly, she's not sure why she's bothering with this whole scavenger hunt to begin with. Chalk it up to killing time — and maybe needing a new hobby, now that her freshly mortal flesh can't tolerate her centuries-old alcoholism the same way it used to. It's not the same when you can't drink, smoke, and fuck with the impunity of immortality, but laying around and rotting is, frankly, boring. So. Here she is.

She'd talked to shirime just a little while earlier and was mulling her options over a cigarette when someone else approaches. Similarly one-eyed, she notes. If he's an asshole, that's a matching pair.

Wryly, through a haze of cigarette smoke, she comments uninvited: ]

It's almost definitely porn.

[ Lio couldn't really claim he knew Majima, but he'd been shadowing his superior long enough to tell something was definitely off. He hadn't said anything, out of respect, until this point at the bar, simply watching his superior gorge away... But that certainly confirmed it, didn't it? ]

You would have noticed, right? Back at the convenience store... the amount of cash you had after paying for your cigarettes.

[ Unless the effect of the curse had really messed him up that badly. But Lio's not convinced, and his tone suggested as much. ]

[ He exhales out of his nose in exasperation, his attention focusing more firmly on kejourou. Considering he's talking to a prostitute and an asshole monster... He's pretty sure his spectator is correct. ]

So what's wrong with this asshole they're too shy to push a button, not too shy t'ask a stranger for their smut.

[ Why. What. ]

[ Chijoku puts their elbow on the bar and their cheek in their palm, smiling with a studied harmlessness. ]

Was I careless?

[ This isn't the person Lio spoke to before. They both know it. Chijoku will dance around the issue for a bit just for the fun of fucking with him. ]

[ She probably shouldn't find the whole scene entertaining, but the shirime isn't the only asshole currently present. Besides, being alive as long as she has, you take your amusements where you can. ]

Maybe they weren't anticipating a stranger with such a keen sense for smut. [ A little shrug of her shoulders. ] I'm not judging. [ Dryly: ] Who knows. Might be quality shit.

[ Maybe it's her way of offering condolences for the man's inconvenience when she holds out her pack of cigarettes in his direction. In her experience, a smoke can make a lot of things more tolerable. ]

Goro Majima... doesn't strike me as the careless sort.

[ Everything about that statement was deliberate. The use of Majima's name, used in the third person, the pointed way Lio's eyes narrowed at the person across the table from him.

True, he didn't know Majima THAT well. But he didn't become the leader of the Mad Burnish for being a sloppy judge of character. ]

Where is the line between reckless and careless?

[ A smile. Majima is definitely one of those things. Chijoku is fond of his host, but not in a way that makes him any less aware of Majima Goro's shortcomings. His dear sweet Majima is a fighting dog that has been kicked too many times. ]

Would you like a drink?

Never could find that line, myself.

[ May as well be honest. ]

[ Keen sense for-- He scoffs. ]

Just lived in th'entertainment district too damn long.

[ As in, he has barely ever lived anywhere else. Kamurocho in Tokyo, Sotenbori in Osaka, and now this. He glances at the offered cigarette with that same slightly exasperated look that he wears most of the time and then accepts. ]

Yeah, I'm sure it's real special. When I was runnin' a club I'd run around for this shit cuz I needed t'know what girls to pull in, ain't got no reason for it now.

[ This disappoints the kejourou who was really hoping she'd scam him into getting her that picture. Majima gives her a look too. ]

What, I'm just doin' it outta th'goodness of my heart?

[ Oh god, he's probably going to. ]

[ He's going to, isn't he? Damn, alright. She was thinking it sounded like a bit of a goose chase herself, but hey, like she said — no judgement — and now she's half interested in how the whole thing will turn out. Maybe she will see this shit through after all.

Wryly: ]

You aren't curious about what kind of porn gets collected by a demon with an eyeball in its asscrack?

[ Obligingly, she holds her lighter out and flicks the small flame to life, her hand cupped around it as she leans closer, offering it to him. ]

[ He leans in to light it, good eye flicking up, ]

[ (Rimshot) He glances up at the kejourou buried in all of her hair. And then he relents, like everyone knew he would, ]

[ He says he 'used to' run a couple clubs. He forgets to include that he now moonlights as a hostess in drag. ]

[ The snake smiles at him with such utter laziness, at rest in a way Majima never is. ]

[ Ass is, admittedly, a pretty good bet. ]

I asked around earlier. [ She nods her head in a general direction up the street. ] Place isn't too far. I was thinking about heading that way.

[ Another drag off her cigarette, another mouthful of smoke. ]

You seem pretty at home here. Like you know the neighborhood. I'd probably get farther with you than without.

[ It's an offer, if somewhat one-sided. ]

Ya ever been t'a host club?

[ He inquires, motioning up the street. Let's go then, he doesn't care if she tags along. ]

[ Works for her. ]

Sure. Now and then. Host clubs, hostess clubs. [ She gives a little shrug before going on wryly: ] Why? Were you going to give me the beginner’s course?

Sure was.

[ He agrees. The vast majority of Lost Souls he talks to don't know fuck all about what this district is like. They don't get the very Japanese entertainments, they don't get the culture, they don't get the yakuza. So now Majima is a walking information booth. ]

Saves me th'effort if ya already know how t'act in there though.

[ Fucking. Lol. ]

[ Well, ain’t that charitable of him though. In his shoes, she might have been more obliged to just watch a fool fumble their way through it. Makes for a memorable first experience. ]

Hosts? They're a pain in th'ass. They're all vain as fuck an' all they do is backstab each other over chicks an' fight.

[ There’s a small pause on her end. Then, abruptly - a short, bark of a laugh. It’s a sharp sound, harsh and a little mean somehow. ]

They lose their glamour when you've been th'management.

[ When you've seen behind the curtain and it's all a big ruse. But putting on the ruse is fun. Being someone else for the night. That's the part that Majima enjoys. ]
