1. WELCOMING COMMITTEE

The influx of fresh Lost Souls means the factions need to have a little welcoming party for them. The leaders realize things have been chaotic in the city. So some recreational activities are in order. All Lost Souls will receive a message from their respective faction leaders with orders to go have some fun.

The Shuten Clan are given an advance on their first paycheck and told to go to the Celestial Phoenix Casino. A big sign on the half boarded up door proudly proclaims UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT. What happened to the old management? It doesn't matter and stop asking questions! The important part is that all games and machines are half-price and there are special prizes available in exchange for your chips and tokens. Games range from the traditional Western style (poker, roulette, slots) to Japanese favorites (cee-lo, koi koi, cho-han).

As for prizes, they have a selection of designer goods, including some particularly nice bracelets, necklaces, and watches!

The Tamamo Clan are given a considerable number of drink vouchers for Crimson Moon Karaoke, where they can sing their hearts out and while absolutely smashed. Private rooms are cheap to rent and they even offer a special discount for groups of two or more. The karaoke machines have any songs you could possibly want, which is a little suspicious, but don't question it! Just get drunk and have fun. By all means, extend your time as you wish and drink up to get in the proper mood. This is an important bonding opportunity.

Oh yeah, as an important note: the rooms are soundproof. You can get as loud as you like, be it with singing or... something else. Don’t do anything Tenko-hime wouldn’t do!

Members of The Sutoku Alliance are given tickets to Fiance of the Funeral Procession at the Pluto Theatre and Cafe. The tickets include free food at the cafe, including beer. Sure, the star may not be a Sutoku member but that doesn't matter too much: getting butts into seats at Sutoku-owned theaters is what’s important. The Daitengu rented the theater out for the day, so there is plenty of time to mill around both before and after the show.

Make a day, or night, of it!

A funeral-based romantic comedy melodrama as the viewing fare is probably a tasteless joke on the Daitengu's part. But hey, y'all aren't still mad that they crashed their own funeral and then took off laughing, right?

Right?

The Department of the Enma members are told that they're going to be doing a team-building exercise. What exactly does that mean? That's right, it's community cleanup time! You get to clean up cans and trash in the street! You get the honor of using a department-issued bike with an attached cart to wheel around the city and pick up trash! How exciting! Teamwork is encouraged, of course. Teams that collect enough garbage will get one (1) voucher for mini-golf.

Please be aware of the local homeless population as you work, they won’t be happy to see you. They normally collect the cans in the mornings as a meager source of income that you’ll be dipping into. They're probably just not happy with Enma officials in general though. Sorry!

2. IT'S RAINING, IT'S POURING...

By the time you're done with your faction-sponsored fun, the sky has decided to open up. Hope you brought your umbrella! The rain is bad enough that walking home might not be an option right now. So take refuge in one of the many nearby nightlife spots.

Not in your faction's home territory? Doesn't matter! Make some friends outside your group or maybe get into a fight and cause some trouble. There's always the third option of ignoring everyone and drinking yourself silly instead! The rain has to let up eventually… right?

Hopefully you aren't caught near one of the cursed Haniwa figures that have been popping up around town. Their aura really dampens the mood and may even start to cause some dramatic and frightening hallucinations if you and your rain-stranded friends stay near them for too long. But remember! Do not break the figurine. Just try to move it somewhere else? And hopefully not get drenched in the process.

[When the Celestial guests visited the Tamomo Clan later in the month, the nature of what 'kind' of heavenly being she was might be a bit clearer, though she still wasn't considered a 'real celestial' by this world's standards. After all, she was a celestial from another reality.

His question made her think for a moment before she raised a finger.]

Something peppy! The music in heaven is so boring. Everything in heaven is boring, actually, but that's a story for another time. Something lively would be great.

[That sure is going to be something for him to behold and something he's going to never forget seeing either. On that day he's going to likely fill a few pages of his journal. Her answers is given a few nods of his head, something peppy. ...Now what the hell kinda songs are peppy? Shoto turns down the volume again and hits a song to listen to the first portion of it while he speaks.]

It can be a story for any time. We could start with names, I always forget that part.

[Nope not the song that sounds peppy, which could be entirely different for him versus her. Next song.]

Oh, did I forget to introduce myself?

[yes, you idiot. You absolutely did.]

Hah. I think I might have had one of those free drinks already. I'm Tenshi Hinanawi. You can call me Tenshi. And if you want to hear what it's like to get into heaven because your ancestors did something amazing and the whole family got elevated, but they didn't know what to do with you other than let you sit around and eat peaches all day? I can definitely fill you in on that. Because I've lost track of how many peaches I've eaten.

[Which was ... thank god, not a metaphor. Literally divine peaches of immortality.]

Oooh, wait, hold up. I think I heard something.

[No. R.E.M. absolutely should have been retired from circulation in karaoke bars years ago.]

[Shoto is incapable of knowing the power of an internal wheeze of realization, he doesn't have that capability but rest assured that hearing her name is 'Angel' and she is a celestial doesn't go unnoticed. What would have gone unnoticed is if that was a metaphor or a euphemism by someone who wouldn't have known the difference and would've taken it at face value. Looks like they both line up like that equally well.]

We both did. But I don't think that it's so bad to sit about eating peaches, unless you hated them to begin with.

[He's not exactly going to let her take all the blame here, he could've stopped her at the door and asked or at least offered his own name. At her noting that she's found something, Shoto pauses on it and takes the moment to tilt his head and have a little more of a listen. Give him a moment and he'll remember he has to give his name too.]

Alright. Good, we found one.

[This is peppy. It's not so bad, either, he likes foreign songs just as much as long as he can enjoy the sound of it. With the remote he puts it back to the beginning and pauses it.]

Hit the button with the right facing arrow when you're ready to sing. Do you mind if I stay? It's been hectic out there.

[The world of Gensokyo was, at times, as subtle as a mackerel smacking you in the face. She didn't often reflect on that little irony, mostly because she didn't reflect on many things, but oh it was definitely there and ironic.

She snorted and laughed.]

Nah, I don't hate peaches... or I didn't, but boy do they get old after a while. They really do. [Ahem] It's that whole quality of sameness about it all that gets almost oppressive. Nothing ever happens in heaven and I want at least a little adventure. The mortal world is more interesting.

And please, definitely stay. This is a lot more fun if I'm making a patoot out of myself with an audience, right?

[She started singing, but good lord... even experts couldn't keep up with this song. It was making her giggle in the middle and she understood maybe half of the words. One way or another, it was awful and if it was better in here, man that said something about how hectic it was out there.]

[It sounds like a world of interesting things, that's for certain. Things that would've gone right over his head until someone was a little more blunt. She's in good company to say whatever comes to mind within reason and get away with it unless he's heard it before. Shoto politely waits to be told if he can or can't stay there and sits down comfortably.]

Maybe you can tell me more about it after.

[He certainly can be a good listener considering his monologues don't happen very often and he's enjoying the tidbits. Learning about other places might be part of a key to getting him, and everyone else who wants to, home.

No matter he tone, Shoto sits just as he had, fingers laced and comfortably against the leather seat of the booth style chair. She makes it look fun, she makes it sound fun and furthermore he's having fun because she seems to be. It's the osmosis that he thrives off of with a stoic look that's only belied by the studious and interested search of his eyes over the lyrics.]

You make it look easy, would you do another one?

[Well, if it was one thing that was useful in this regard? She loved talking about herself way too much. Grinning, she nodded over at Shouto.]

Absolutely. I can tell you all kinds of stuff.

[Hmmm, sure, she could sing more. Why not?]

Oh I'm definitely planning to do as many of these as I can try out. Only way to learn how to sing songs without knowing the lyrics is to try and not care if I sound stupid, right?

[That's alright, Shoto likes listening. Further more she seems pleasant and her smiling is also pleasant. Even if he's not the sort to smile that often, having people around him that do makes him happy.]

I'd like that.

[Shoto sits back up to find another song for her, which he feels might fit it since it sounds pretty upbeat in the intro.]

Then I have a long night of listening ahead of me.

[Because he'll stick there until she kicks him out or they both get too tired to go on.]

Ooooh, this one sounds good!

[Yeah. That particular bit of toe-tapping would almost certainly just be stuck in her half-drunk head for the next week, but that was fine. It was ... uh... happy! Yes, that's exactly what it was, and even if she wasn't that great at singing, she'd probably have that going while she was walking for a while to come.

Thanks. This one's stuck in her head now.]

Nothing wrong with having something to do, and I love an audience!
