1. WELCOMING COMMITTEE

The influx of Lost Souls means the factions need to have a little welcoming party of sorts. The leaders of each faction each send a message to their new recruits, telling them to meet at their respective headquarters.

The Shuten Clan directs their new recruits to the Arena. There’s plenty of food and booze to go along with the exhibition matches from the toughest fighters they’ve got. Enjoy the view or get involved in an arena fight, if you’re feeling spicy. If bloodsport isn’t your cup of tea, there’s a number of gambling games to partake in, too – don’t worry, your money isn’t at stake here, unless you want it to be.

The Tamamo Clan recruits are sent to the brothel Mizukume. Hosts of all sorts are there to fill your every need. If you’re not one to be doted on, there’s also exotic dancers in every state of undress for you to look at. You may be tasked with being a host or a dancer yourself. If you’re not in the mood for that, there’s plenty of food from Tamamo-controlled restaurants to eat and seemingly endless drinks. The drinks may or may not have a little something extra in them, so check the labels carefully.

The Sutoku Alliance meets at the nightclub Konoha. It’s truly a celebration with an enormous amount of fast food from every joint in their district and an equal amount of cheap drinks. Sing your heart out with live band karaoke – don’t worry about them not knowing your song, they seem to have a depth of knowledge beyond this world. Once that settles down, there’s plenty of dancing to do or you can be a wallflower, whatever suits your mood.

The Department of the Enma meets at a meeting room on the top floor of Kaigo no Bou. The room is uncomfortably opulent and wouldn’t be out of place in a Heian imperial court. Fine silk tapestries cover the walls, richly lacquered wood is inlaid with gold, and it all feels like it was decorated by someone with more money than taste. There’s fine food and even finer drink available. Various multi-armed youkai play in a jazz band, playing their instruments in a much more complicated manner than strictly necessary. Stretch your legs and dance. Take a peek out the window for a bird’s eye view of the city. If the interior is too stuffy for you, escape to the roof for some fresh air – just be careful not to fall off.

2. PARTY TIME

After everyone’s had their fill of food, drink, and entertainment: the party isn’t over. They’re told to make their way to Konoha with the instruction to show their faction’s pride. That’s a careful way to tell them to raise hell. Upon arrival, all recruits are provided with an advance on their pay by The Enma. Food is provided by the Shuten Clan, a variety of all sorts of meaty foods. Drinks are provided by the Tamamo Clan, but be wary because some may have that special Tamamo kick to them (read: aphro). It’s technically a neutral meeting place, but there’s almost certain to be a fight sooner or later. Entertain yourself, meet the other factions, and raise some Hell.

That's true! It is!

[Her vocal enthusiasm is undimmed, though her expression seems to be trying and failing to reach the same level. She has a great deal of fine muscle control, but in skipping the testing phase and not having a mirror, she's also trying to mimic the expressions of the people around her in real time via trial and error. She turns her current expression (moderate enjoyment, raised eyebrows, wide eyes, relaxed general musculature) toward her drink-providing companion and twitches her lips into a rather faint smile. The drink itself is still being treated more like a prop than a drink.]

I've never been to a party before! There are a lot of people here. Have you been to a party before?

[there's something about her that gets nehan thinking-- somehow she's acting strange, in a way a civilian wouldn't... unless they were very, very awkward in public. which, in context, makes sense. she has outright stated that she's never been in a party and nehan can assume that she hasn't been around so many people either.

still, there's something. like she doesn't know how to actually arrange her face to make an expression she's happy (?) with.

Yes. Not one taking place in a club such as this, but I'm used to parties, drinking and whatnot.

None of them are worth writing home about unless a scandal erupts.

[At his words, Ophelia's focus latches onto him, intense and unwavering and interested. She's entirely unself-conscious about it, too.]

A scandal? Do you often encounter scandals? Are they unique to parties?

[She moves the drink in the mirror of one of the nearby drinkers, shifting it between her hands a little carelessly as she turns her shoulders and body towards him to indicate her increased interest.]

[nehan manages to not make a face when he sees her careful adjusting of herself. too artificial-- she's trying too hard, and now it's so, so obvious now that he's well aware of such things.

the display sets him on edge, more than the unwavering attention. still, he soldiers on.]

Scandals can happen in many ways and forms. It's just a matter of who gets drunk enough to do what.

[Ophelia nods encouragingly.]

Oh, I see. If I got drunk enough, then I could probably cause one.

[Which...can't happen, unfortunately, unless something very weird happened with her circuitry. Even so, she finally glances down and eyes her glass thoughtfully. She could probably learn to mimic drunkeness? There are plenty of examples around her.]

What constitutes a scandal?

[That's her question, and she follows it up by finally lifting her glass with a little nod and tipping it back into her mouth. She has an ersatz digestive system. Enough to allow her to eat and drink, though it's not connected to anything. Once the alcohol is past her lips, she has no real experience of it. She frowns very slightly at the glass once she's drained it, contemplative.]

Whatever gets the attention of the whole place, and keeps people talking on and on about it for days.

[nehan deliberately keeps his wording vague, because he really doesn't think this person is... all that right. no, "right" is not the proper word for it, but for all of his wide vocabulary, how do you put words to a feeling like this? his intuition tells him this is all off, but how?

thus, he's starting to find ways to protect himself in case this blows up in his face. he cant even be interested in how the drug will work, what sort of drug it will be.]

That is a very broad description of a scandal.

[She has enough context that she does not doubt its veracity, so that's her only comment. Duly filing it away, she considers her drink for another few moments before looking up at the one who handed it to her. She blinks thoughtfully at him.]

Are there protocols around drinking alcohol? Or acceptable levels of drunkenness if one has had only one glass of...champagne? This was champagne, correct?

[She has seen the bottles serving it at the bars, so she is fairly confident in her assessment. The query itself, though, is light and curious, since the club is a bit too chaotic for her to have had much success with tracking one individual to sample their behavior. If this person was willing to hand her some, then surely he must know these details?]

[the erune squints further. he... he really is getting terrible vibes from this conversation, and he thinks he should cut this short. this is the only way to protect himself. cut loose and disappear into the crowd.]

This is your first time, correct? Parties are meant to be experienced-- go experience it for yourself. If I stay here and answer every single one of your questions, and even future ones, you'll be keeping me for the entire party.

[then he takes a step back. a signal that he's done.]

[Ophelia blinks at the person in bepuzzlement, but does not seem particularly bothered by the fact that he's backing away. That he is not open for her...interrogation...is actually very much a novel experience for her and she is busy cataloging the 'do not wish to speak' body language as she processes the boundary.]

That is true. You are interesting. However, I will not keep you.

[She is very blunt and absolutely unrepentant that she would keep him there and ask every question she could think of. But then her manners protocols kick in with:]

Oh. My name is Ophelia. May I ask your name before you go? If not, farewell.
