1. WELCOMING COMMITTEE

The influx of Lost Souls means the factions need to have a little welcoming party of sorts. The leaders of each faction each send a message to their new recruits, telling them to meet at their respective headquarters.

The Shuten Clan directs their new recruits to the Arena. There’s plenty of food and booze to go along with the exhibition matches from the toughest fighters they’ve got. Enjoy the view or get involved in an arena fight, if you’re feeling spicy. If bloodsport isn’t your cup of tea, there’s a number of gambling games to partake in, too – don’t worry, your money isn’t at stake here, unless you want it to be.

The Tamamo Clan recruits are sent to the brothel Mizukume. Hosts of all sorts are there to fill your every need. If you’re not one to be doted on, there’s also exotic dancers in every state of undress for you to look at. You may be tasked with being a host or a dancer yourself. If you’re not in the mood for that, there’s plenty of food from Tamamo-controlled restaurants to eat and seemingly endless drinks. The drinks may or may not have a little something extra in them, so check the labels carefully.

The Sutoku Alliance meets at the nightclub Konoha. It’s truly a celebration with an enormous amount of fast food from every joint in their district and an equal amount of cheap drinks. Sing your heart out with live band karaoke – don’t worry about them not knowing your song, they seem to have a depth of knowledge beyond this world. Once that settles down, there’s plenty of dancing to do or you can be a wallflower, whatever suits your mood.

The Department of the Enma meets at a meeting room on the top floor of Kaigo no Bou. The room is uncomfortably opulent and wouldn’t be out of place in a Heian imperial court. Fine silk tapestries cover the walls, richly lacquered wood is inlaid with gold, and it all feels like it was decorated by someone with more money than taste. There’s fine food and even finer drink available. Various multi-armed youkai play in a jazz band, playing their instruments in a much more complicated manner than strictly necessary. Stretch your legs and dance. Take a peek out the window for a bird’s eye view of the city. If the interior is too stuffy for you, escape to the roof for some fresh air – just be careful not to fall off.

2. PARTY TIME

After everyone’s had their fill of food, drink, and entertainment: the party isn’t over. They’re told to make their way to Konoha with the instruction to show their faction’s pride. That’s a careful way to tell them to raise hell. Upon arrival, all recruits are provided with an advance on their pay by The Enma. Food is provided by the Shuten Clan, a variety of all sorts of meaty foods. Drinks are provided by the Tamamo Clan, but be wary because some may have that special Tamamo kick to them (read: aphro). It’s technically a neutral meeting place, but there’s almost certain to be a fight sooner or later. Entertain yourself, meet the other factions, and raise some Hell.

[ Gods there really is. So much food. To a former street rat, this run-of-the mill grocery chain looks more like heaven than hell. 100 yen cup noodles? Even someone new to handling the currency can tell it's dirt cheap. Anyway, besides the prices, there's something else in the store that gets his attention.

He doesn't bother to announce his approach. When Dimitri turns around again, he'll find Yuri with one arm draped across the rim of the cart, glancing down at the... packets and packets of cheese. ]

Don't you think your feast is missing a few ingredients?

[ he? he sigh. ] Not you too ... Felix already added a few things.

[ in fact, he points to the lone healthy things in his cart: two apples. ]

And I do have meat in there. [ beef jerky. look, he puts in something he'd encountered recently and sort of enjoyed: onigiri with shrimp. ]

[ Don't tell him this cart was already checked and stamped with approval... Have you two never gone grocery shopping before...

Anyway, to someone who likes to cook, this assortment of food is looking terribly sad. ]

If you grab a few more things, you can at least make pasta or gratin out of it. You need a recipe or something?

[ they have! but now nobody's telling them what to do and so their first instinct is to reach for their favourites.

dimitri looks interested, however, when he mentions cooking. ]

Why, I'd be delighted if you'd share. My skills are rather basic, however, but I've assisted my classmates before in preparing and cooking. I should be able to manage cooking meals, so long as the recipe isn't too complicated.

[ especially since taste really isn't an issue. just whether or not it's enough sustenance for the day. ]

You're in luck, I know a wealth of humble Faerghus recipes. Come on.

[ Yuri waves him down the next aisle to where the meats are. Instead of a cart, he's just got a shopping basket looped over one arm. Inside is an assortment of food. Bread, potatoes, vegetables, herbs... also some of that 100 yen cup noodle.

He stops by the poultry section, where the chicken is already nicely cut and packaged for them to choose from, and explains how to season and cook a classic dish of Gautier Cheese Gratin - or the poor man's version of it. ]

...Top it off with melted cheese and there you go, a taste of home.

An invitation from the prince of Faerghus himself? Far be it from me to refuse.

[ Usually when nobility invite him to dinner, it's something he's purposely angled for. Though perhaps that isn't the right comparison as they are now, just new recruits under a contract. ]

I know we have our own places and factions to settle into, but I feel we should all be able to rely on each other still.

We have shared concerns and keeping in touch with each other can be only to our benefit.

[ the prince is making grand assumptions about 'shared concerns' here, and dimitri doesn't even realize that he is making such assumptions, but he does mean it when he says he wants to be familiar with both yuri and felix. ]

I don't see why not. We'll need to get the lay of this land and watch our backs here. We could all use a few more eyes.

[ Oh, there certainly are benefits to having contacts and being in the good graces of the crown prince, here and whenever they return home. He's sure that's not what the prince means. Unlike him, Dimitri is honest in his intentions. ]
