The influx of Lost Souls means the factions need to have a little welcoming party of sorts. The leaders of each faction each send a message to their new recruits, telling them to meet at their respective headquarters.

The Shuten Clan directs their new recruits to the Arena. There’s plenty of food and booze to go along with the exhibition matches from the toughest fighters they’ve got. Enjoy the view or get involved in an arena fight, if you’re feeling spicy. If bloodsport isn’t your cup of tea, there’s a number of gambling games to partake in, too – don’t worry, your money isn’t at stake here, unless you want it to be.

The Tamamo Clan recruits are sent to the brothel Mizukume. Hosts of all sorts are there to fill your every need. If you’re not one to be doted on, there’s also exotic dancers in every state of undress for you to look at. You may be tasked with being a host or a dancer yourself. If you’re not in the mood for that, there’s plenty of food from Tamamo-controlled restaurants to eat and seemingly endless drinks. The drinks may or may not have a little something extra in them, so check the labels carefully.

The Sutoku Alliance meets at the nightclub Konoha. It’s truly a celebration with an enormous amount of fast food from every joint in their district and an equal amount of cheap drinks. Sing your heart out with live band karaoke – don’t worry about them not knowing your song, they seem to have a depth of knowledge beyond this world. Once that settles down, there’s plenty of dancing to do or you can be a wallflower, whatever suits your mood.

The Department of the Enma meets at a meeting room on the top floor of Kaigo no Bou. The room is uncomfortably opulent and wouldn’t be out of place in a Heian imperial court. Fine silk tapestries cover the walls, richly lacquered wood is inlaid with gold, and it all feels like it was decorated by someone with more money than taste. There’s fine food and even finer drink available. Various multi-armed youkai play in a jazz band, playing their instruments in a much more complicated manner than strictly necessary. Stretch your legs and dance. Take a peek out the window for a bird’s eye view of the city. If the interior is too stuffy for you, escape to the roof for some fresh air – just be careful not to fall off.

2. PARTY TIME

After everyone’s had their fill of food, drink, and entertainment: the party isn’t over. They’re told to make their way to Konoha with the instruction to show their faction’s pride. That’s a careful way to tell them to raise hell. Upon arrival, all recruits are provided with an advance on their pay by The Enma. Food is provided by the Shuten Clan, a variety of all sorts of meaty foods. Drinks are provided by the Tamamo Clan, but be wary because some may have that special Tamamo kick to them (read: aphro). It’s technically a neutral meeting place, but there’s almost certain to be a fight sooner or later. Entertain yourself, meet the other factions, and raise some Hell.

[ Far be it for him to turn down a free meal, Yuri's chosen a seat at a table away from the singing crowd and filled his plate with unfamiliar dishes to sample. He's picking up a french fry with his fork when the shifty movements of a fellow clan member catch his attention. Having been a pickpocket himself, he can spot the good old tricks of a thief. Yuri merely watches for a while, and when the thief hits up his table, he looks over. ]

Why are you prowling around stealing what's free?

[ His tone is curious, not accusatory, and he waves a hand in the air dismissively as if anticipating the response that might follow. ]

Don't fret. I won't tell anyone. [ Go ahead and steal. He's not stopping you. ]

[There were usually a set number of reactions Ethan expected from the people he swiped food from. The people who could tell something was wrong but couldn't pin it on him were pretty funny. The people who got mad were either a hoot or a scare depending on how mad they got. The people that immediately caught it and turned it into a lecture were a huge drag.]

[This one, though, is so quick and simple that it disarms him. He pulls his arm back from where he'd been extending it to take something. His answer is a somewhat befuddled,]

I dunno.

[... but since the guy said he could steal he quickly extends that hand again to steal a Hell's McDonalds' chicken(?) nugget.]

Habit, I guess.

[It was a more honest answer than he would usually give because of the simplicity of the question and how it was asked.]

[ Sticky fingers? Yuri's known a kid or two like that. ]

Not bad with the sleight of hand. What's your name?

[ He watches with an amused smile as the nugget disappears. ]

Just don't run afoul of the clan. They say these guys know everything.

[ A french fry or twenty is negligible, but there are some things you shouldn't swipe from your employers, as much as Yuri understands the desire to. ]

[Ethan pops the entire nugget in his mouth at once, chewing thoughtfully while his tail uncurls slightly.]

Yeah, trust me, I'm not gonna test it for myself, I'm gonna see what other people get away with first.

[The clan supposedly knew everything which meant some of the youkai here must know how much they didn't know. Right now, with food being given freely, there wouldn't be a consequence unless he stole from the wrong person. Everything else was trickier. He swallows his bite of food.]

You can call me Ethan. I promise, I keep my hands to myself when I'm working~

[he grins]

[ A mischievous and cautious plan. That gets a chuckle out of Yuri. ]

Good to know, seeing as we might be working together in the future. I'm Yuri. Can't say I've got much on me worth stealing.

[ He's never been rich, but here he's not even got the pittance of gold he'd scraped together. But if he's managed it once, he'll manage it again. He knows what it's like to climb from nothing. Yuri casts a furtive look around to check that no youkai are in earshot before speaking again, his voice dialed low. ]

What do you make of this contract business? Think they'll really pay out if we do the job?

[camyoflage]

I'm more of a snack guy than a coin guy anyways. I get hungry and I hate waiting, you know?

[It was a little more of a self-deprecating nudge than being real about how you could never expect a meal in the future so you just ate whenever you could get your hands on anything. He keeps the tone of that conversation light, so no one things anything of when his tone lowers for the next question,]

... As far as I see it, we don't have a choice. If we break the contract they throw us out into the wastes. I've survived that sort of thing before but it's not like getting thrown out would get me any closer than earning a salary here...

[playfoul]

Hmm, think I prefer coin myself. More versatile, and it doesn't spoil.

[ It's Yuri's own subtle admission that he's made off with other people's goods before, and he keeps the tone light as if they're having any old conversation. He can understand wanting to fill one's belly, and the immediate gratification a good meal brings. Other times, it was simply a matter of what was there to steal. Beggars can't be choosers. ]

Makes sense. I would hope they keep their word, but if the wages aren't fair? You've got a head start on your plan to swipe from them.
