1. WELCOMING COMMITTEE

The influx of Lost Souls means the factions need to have a little welcoming party of sorts. The leaders of each faction each send a message to their new recruits, telling them to meet at their respective headquarters.
The Shuten Clan directs their new recruits to the Arena. There’s plenty of food and booze to go along with the exhibition matches from the toughest fighters they’ve got. Enjoy the view or get involved in an arena fight, if you’re feeling spicy. If bloodsport isn’t your cup of tea, there’s a number of gambling games to partake in, too – don’t worry, your money isn’t at stake here, unless you want it to be.
The Tamamo Clan recruits are sent to the brothel Mizukume. Hosts of all sorts are there to fill your every need. If you’re not one to be doted on, there’s also exotic dancers in every state of undress for you to look at. You may be tasked with being a host or a dancer yourself. If you’re not in the mood for that, there’s plenty of food from Tamamo-controlled restaurants to eat and seemingly endless drinks. The drinks may or may not have a little something extra in them, so check the labels carefully.
The Sutoku Alliance meets at the nightclub Konoha. It’s truly a celebration with an enormous amount of fast food from every joint in their district and an equal amount of cheap drinks. Sing your heart out with live band karaoke – don’t worry about them not knowing your song, they seem to have a depth of knowledge beyond this world. Once that settles down, there’s plenty of dancing to do or you can be a wallflower, whatever suits your mood.
The Department of the Enma meets at a meeting room on the top floor of Kaigo no Bou. The room is uncomfortably opulent and wouldn’t be out of place in a Heian imperial court. Fine silk tapestries cover the walls, richly lacquered wood is inlaid with gold, and it all feels like it was decorated by someone with more money than taste. There’s fine food and even finer drink available. Various multi-armed youkai play in a jazz band, playing their instruments in a much more complicated manner than strictly necessary. Stretch your legs and dance. Take a peek out the window for a bird’s eye view of the city. If the interior is too stuffy for you, escape to the roof for some fresh air – just be careful not to fall off.
2. PARTY TIME

After everyone’s had their fill of food, drink, and entertainment: the party isn’t over. They’re told to make their way to Konoha with the instruction to show their faction’s pride. That’s a careful way to tell them to raise hell. Upon arrival, all recruits are provided with an advance on their pay by The Enma. Food is provided by the Shuten Clan, a variety of all sorts of meaty foods. Drinks are provided by the Tamamo Clan, but be wary because some may have that special Tamamo kick to them (read: aphro). It’s technically a neutral meeting place, but there’s almost certain to be a fight sooner or later. Entertain yourself, meet the other factions, and raise some Hell.

[He repeats with a slight scowl. While Dante has his suspicions that Jigokucho isn't entirely real, he doesn't have any evidence to prove otherwise. That is until now. If this bizarre city is supposed to be based upon someplace in Japan, then what exactly is Jigokucho? Is this hell or is this simply someone else's interpretation of hell?
A thoughtful hum escapes Dante as he regards the man beside him. Like most of the unwilling participants in this crazy gang war, Eyepatch appears to be some sort of youkai. Everything from the serpentine eyes down to the white scales gives that away. The same goes for the fangs. While Eyepatch isn’t the first youkai that Dante had the (dis)pleasure of meeting, he’s at least the first youkai who hasn’t punched him yet.
That’s a positive in his book.]
Mind telling me more about Hakagemachi?
[He questions with a raised brow as he pours his new “friend” a glass of something strong. It’s probably whisky since Dante is too damn apprehensive to try sake right now. The devil hunter loves his whisky.]
I’m from a grimy old city called Redgrave but my family did settle at the capital for a time.
[He explains tersely in hopes of giving this man some sort of reason to keep talking]
That is except for my old man. I guess you could say he was a migrant worker from down south.
[Dante should be shot dead for how casually he speaks about his dear old dad. The people didn't call Sparda the Legendary Dark Knight for nothing but here's Dante acting like he's anything but.]

Hakagemachi... ended up there when th'snake possessed me. Town was real fucked up, breakin' apart at the seams an' the yokai there were runnin' out of energy. So the ones that could went out t'other worlds an' pulled in hosts that could support 'em.
[ He sticks a cigarette in his mouth that he pauses before moving on to light in order to offer out his carton of Hi-Lites in case Dante wants one. ]
Town was on th'edge of some forest, had some farmland an' a lake nearby. Little town, but it was always movin' the streets around, everybody was lost all th'time. Time didn't work right there, shit'd repeat itself. Came in handy sometimes. Get yerself killed in one'a the time loops and ya had a chance of fixin' it an' poppin' back out.
Somebody fucked with the shrines around th'town. Broke th'place, I don't know. We fixed a couple, revived th'gods there. Farm Mama was actually real nice, liked her an' all of her fuckin' farm cats. Couldn't fix the Lake Shrine though, pretty sure we were all gonna drown from all th'rain.
[ He looks at Dante wearily. The place was psychologically very taxing. He and most of his friends had died, almost died, lost their minds to the psychological pressure, lost their will to their yokai. It was a hard time. No party like this. ]
Dunno, don't remember real well after that. Now we're here. How's it stackin' up t'Redgrave?

Momentarily lost in thought, Dante blinks in surprise when Eyepatch offers him the pack. He quietly declines with a frank “No, thanks” as the man continues with his story. No offense but cigarettes were never his “thing”. While he always was a bit of a social drinker, Dante isn’t much of a smoker.]
So Hakagemachi was just one endless loop, huh?
[He questions looking a bit skeptical. It’s not because he doesn’t believe Eyepatch’s story but more or less he can’t figure out how the yokai managed to do that. Time stands still for no man in his world. It simply marches on as it always does but in Hell, it feels like time doesn’t exist at all.]
Sounds like to me the yokai were hellbent on keeping you folks there by any means necessary.
[If that’s the case, then how did this guy escape? Good question, right? Dante can just tell there’s more to this story than what meets eye. He stares back at Eyepatch for a long while, obviously studying his weary expression as he takes another sip of his glass. That haunted “eye” of his paints a story, one that Dante is trying to piece together without prying too much.]
Well, Redgrave has certainly seen better days. [He answers with a hint of dry humor.] Demons swept in one evening and ruined everything once this monstrous demonic tree started wrecking chaos upon the population.
Massive casualties.
[What transpired in Redgrave weighs heavily on Dante’s shoulders since he should’ve been better prepared for this kind of stuff. Then again, he didn’t expect his assumedly dead sibling to rise from the metaphorical ashes and cause all this damn hell. Nope, that wasn’t on his bingo card for the evening.]
I was volunteering for lumberjack duty when I was suddenly transported here. Hell, I'm not even sure how that happened…
[He can recall a few details here and there but Dante doesn’t quite remember everything. It’s like his mind is in a fog. An all too convenient fog, if you ask him. It’s a little aggravating but he remembers the deal he cut with his handler. He’s willing to brave the ranks of the Shuten Clan all for one wish, to free the mortal realm from the Qliphoth tree.]

[ His head tilts back as he exhales smoke. ]
Guessin' fixin' all that's what they offered ya.
[ Yakuza deals are... not to be trusted. They're like vampires, once they get an in somewhere they'll just keep taking. But ignoring that for the moment, it doesn't sound like a terrible deal on paper. Do some gangster grunt work in Hell and save the city? Why not. ]
Year ago I woulda told ya demons an' shit ain't even real. Definitely knew I was goin' t'hell though.

[Who in their right mind would pass up on such an opportunity? Dante only wants to set things right and he's willing to do whatever it takes to do so. He refuses to just sit back and do nothing. That's just not his style.]
Heh, really? [He regards Eyepatch with a wry grin.] I always knew I was bound for hell too. I got a smart mouth after all.
[His smile fades a little.]

...M'Majima, by the way. Usually takes more'n a shitty mouth t'get invited down here.
[ Probably has a little more to do with the relentless inclination to violence. A lot of the Shuten members are probably right about where they belong. ]

Nice pet. [He mutters with a slight tinge of humor.] It's not every day that I meet someone as peculiar as myself.
[All jokes aside, he honestly means it. That's why he doesn't hesitate to give his name. Eyepatch, or rather Majima, seems to be a decent enough guy. The Shuten Clan has more brawlers than talkers around and to be frank, Dante is a little sick of fighting for the time being.]
You know, you're probably right about that. [He admits with a somewhat smug grin.] I'm Dante, by the way.
I can't help but notice the Shuten folks have a particular "type" they like.

[ The name means 'Disgrace'. It's less an aspersion to his character and more commentary on the power that disgrace has. It's a name of importance and authority in this way. ]
Kinda odd how they got 'em all divided up like they do. Normal yakuza family'd have all kinds mixed together. Enforcers an' money guys an' schemin' types.
[ His cigarette droops from his mouth for a moment while he scratches the back of his neck uncertainly. ]
Every oyaji knows ya need a full deck if yer gonna move up in th'world.

[He lets out a slight laugh once the snake introduces itself. This isn’t the first time he met a demon with manners but he honestly didn’t expect Chijoku to join in the conversation. The devil hidden away within him is mostly silent minus the faint whispers Dante can only hear. His devil is sound asleep at the moment. It’s almost like the monster within him is dormant for the time being. It’s an oddly worrying feeling, one that Dante is trying his best to ignore.]
It is a little odd, isn’t it?
[Dante questions as he glances around the room curiously. There’s more Oni than anything but there are all sorts of yokai in the Shuten Clan, most of which look like your average bruisers.]
If this clan only handles the muscle, then who handles our finances?
[That’s a good question since Dante doubts half of these idiots know how to crunch numbers.]
Geez, I knew this was already a shitshow but now it’s starting to look like a full Broadway performance.
[He grumbles while looking for something to snack on. Dante likes pocky well enough but he just wants some crisps.]

[ He's not entirely sure he wants to do that. He's not keen on ladder climbing in this position, but he's also not great at just sitting back and letting things go to shit. ]

Well, I can’t say I ever ran a cabaret club before.
[He admits with a faint chuckle. Though, he honestly wouldn’t be opposed to doing something like that. It sounds like fun to him.]
I was a mercenary before I became a devil hunter but for long while, I worked as a private investigator. If you needed intel on anyone, I was your man.
[While everyone knows Dante for his over-the-top and larger-than-life personality, he’s actually pretty damn smart for someone who barely finished high school. He’s a rather decent researcher despite his very avant-garde methods.]
I’m sure the yakuza has an opening for a guy like me.

[Judging from his sarcastic tone, Dante feels a certain kind of way about fitting in. He's a devil hunter after all, not your common thug. If the situation was in his favor, he wouldn't even be here. Dante prides himself in not being one of the "bad guys" but he has done some questionable things in his life, especially during his mercenary days.]
Eh, you wanna fight?
[He gives Majima a long stare, his gaze focusing on those peculiar white scales. He seen all sorts of demons in the past but nothing quite like Majima or his scaly friend. They look less like demons and more like a mythical creatures.]
If you're in for a brawl, then I'm your man!
[He states with a cheeky little grin.]
Just tell me when and where.
