March 2022 Mini Event

The Night Parade is fast-approaching and each faction will be busy with their own preparations.

1. SHUTEN CLAN

The Celestial Phoenix Casino, a fairly popular casino in the Shuten territory, is overdue on its protection money. This money is sorely needed for parade preparations. Unfortunately, the casino has decided it doesn't need to pay up because they've hired some new unaffiliated muscle. Neither the manager nor their new muscle are the type to listen to reason, so be prepared to exert some intimidation and force to convince these new bodyguards to take their business elsewhere.

The brute squad working for the Celestial Phoenix seems to be made up of several different youkai. Some of them are more human looking than others, but you'll notice no Oni. Even independent Oni wouldn't dare turn against the Shuten Clan. Even lacking in Oni, these thugs are armed to the teeth, swinging several deadly weapons and even a few firearms. This could get rough, so be prepared for the worst. Take the gangsters protecting the Celestial Phoenix out or convince them it’s not worth it.

Once inside, you'll discover that the owner, in a panic, has locked himself inside the casino's value with the protection money owed. This might take some doing to get open...

2. SUTOKU ALLIANCE

The Kappa want to be left alone and the Daitengu has asked Sutoku Alliance members to assure their wishes are respected. Members are tasked with convincing people to stay away from the Kappa's riverside facilities by whatever means necessary. Of course, you may want to take a look for yourself to see what they’re being so secretive about. That’s not recommended, if you don’t want to get into trouble.

It’s not just strangers who are nosy, though. Retinues from both the Shuten and Tamamo clans are making an appearance and asking why the inspections are taking so long. Why are the Kappa dragging their feet? The Alliance prefers to avoid direct violence, so it's up to you to talk to these clan captains in a way that convinces them to leave the Kappa alone.

If you're curious enough to dive deeper into the Kappa's business, however, even your Alliance membership isn't going to keep you safe. The Kappa themselves seem to disappear from sight the further into the sewers you go, as if invisible. Preventing yourself from being spotted by a security camera or a patrolling Kappa is almost impossible. Cover your faces, stick to the shadows, and you might just notice that... they’re building something down there.

Something for the Parade? Who knows? But it’s definitely not decorations or a float...

3. DEPARTMENT OF THE ENMA

The parade route for the Night Parade needs to be "cleaned up". The Department is tasked with getting the low level street gangs and squatters to clear out. The homeless population will resist and may not be so easily persuaded to give up their spots. Your best bet is to offer them food, booze, or shelter for the night. The street gangs will assuredly fight back. Use your strength or your wits to get the job done.

The gangs will not typically be that tough, most don’t want to step up to the Department's goon squad too heavily lest they wind up in a cell for the rest of their lives. Still, some might be hopped up on encouraging substances and try to escalate. Don’t worry, though. You have the authority of the Enma on your side! Don’t think they will get away with waving a weapon in your face.

The homeless, though, lack strength or weapons. They are more fueled by desperation to keep their spots. Winter hasn't been kind to them, after all, and they don’t have much respect for the Enma's authority. Their belligerent behavior is loud, and often violent despite their absence of means to properly defend themselves. At worst, they’ll probably try to use biological warfare. Don’t ask what's in those bottles...

4. TAMAMO CLAN

Parade costumes need to be designed, crafted, modeled, and then likely mended knowing the rough and tumble yokai. The textile shops and tailors of the area need Tamamo Clan members to help them out. Costumes vary from extremely ornate to extremely sexy. These costumes need to merge form and function, for the Tamamo clan parade marchers that means they need to be able to sell their specific wares while wearing them. (wink wonk)

None of the costumes are floor ready and the shop bosses urge you that these cannot be seen by the public until they are ready. This won’t stop some peeping toms and tammies from trying to scope out the goods. Most of the voyeurs are spying for perverted reasons, but some are from shops outside of Tamamo’s influence trying to copy the designs for themselves. Either way, Tamamo Clan members aren't expected to be just pretty faces. So rough’em up.

5. TASTE TEST (ALL FACTIONS)

For those less interested in their faction's work, the restaurants in the Tamamo territory also need help finalizing their menu offerings for the Night Parade. Taste testers and creative cooks wanted! These aren’t just any dishes though and may have some interesting effects. One may be so spicy that everything burns, your face turns red, and you need to cool yourself off. Or maybe your dish is so good that you need to take a nap – it doesn't matter where you are, you'll just fall asleep right on the spot. Another possibility is a dish that gives you unstoppable energy – literally. It will make you want to get up and go and never stop moving. If you stop moving, it may cause a bigger problem.

[ Normally Musashi wasn't this petty.

Actually, that was a lie, pettiness was kind of baked into her fighting style, but even so, she allowed herself to more openly enjoy his reaction, giggling brightly. ]

Ask nicely and I might share some of this ice cream with you~

[ He turns to her, eyes tearing up and finger raised as if to say 'woman, do not'. He turns in his seat, then to the shop keep and signals for water, which he gets but it doesn't help. ]

Fuck!

[ He stands, taking off his coat and fanning himself to cool off, which works about just as well as anyone might expect before he starts pacing. ]

What the fuck is in that????

[ Yes, he is as red as a tomato but no, he is not about to beg her for ice cream be bought. Sure he was ogling and kind of a jerk, maybe even deserved this, but he had his pride. Pride that would most likely have him wind up in the river. ]

[ The vendor explained the sauce was a family secret recipe.

Musashi giggled to the point of having to the point of having to cover her mouth. ]

Oh what?! Is the secret ingredient pepper spray?! I don't give a-

[ He inhaled sharply to try and cool his burning insides but instead, he did something he would soon regret. ]

Oh god it's in my nose!

[ He swears as he grabs his face, the pacing more aggressive now as he swear with each step, punches a tree several times and is just generally doing what one does in hell. Suffer. ]

[ She nearly spat what ice cream was in her mouth, having to quickly grab a napkin from the stand as she burst out laughing. Oh, this, perhaps more than the cooling cream, was exactly what she'd needed after feeling like she'd spent most of her first weeks in Jigokucho being the butt of the world's jokes.

Maybe it wasn't great seeing someone else suffer, but it was the harmless sort of suffering, so she allowed herself to simply just enjoy the humor of it all, giggling brightly, her face a picture of joy.

He probably wasn't in any position to appreciate it. ]

[ He's about five degrees away from banging his head on a tree or post from madness as the pain in his throat pulses like mad.

He is most certainly in no position to appreciate the apparent innocence, glee, and cuteness coming from her. Her giggling actually only manages to rise his ire as he swing around and holds out his hand. ]

Surrender the ice cream. Now.

[ He's not asking, he is demanding. Pettiness nearing its peak. ]

Nope! I said you gotta ask nice, so ask nice!

[ She clutches the bowl a bit closer, her giggling stifled only just slightly. She was fully prepared to play keep-away if she had to. ]

Surrender it or so help me-!

[ If she was determined to play this game he will oblige, because his head was on fire and that was just unpleasant. He reaches for the ice cream with one hand but the other was already raised and ready to grab her wrist to take it because he knows he's going to make this difficult for him. ]

[ It probably wasn't possible for most people to notice his other hand was reaching for the wrist while focusing on the one that had reached for the ice cream bowl, but Musashi was... well, she was Musashi, and she just sort of spun out of his way, off the bench, and to a standing position beside him. ]

Come on, now, you can do better than that, right?

[ He takes swing after swing to get the ice cream, but his encumbered focus and her being who she is, it is naturally a bit more difficult than he thought it'd be. ]

Hand it over or you are going in the river with me!

[ Its not an idle threat, but he'd rather it not come to that so he gathers his focus and fakes one attempt - make her think he's reaching for her wrist but switching instead to grab the sleeve of her kimono. It doesn't matter if it wasn't her arm, immobilizing one will help. ]

[ Well, she can't dodge them all... but she can still control where that momentum goes. Rather than letting her arm movement be trapped, she instead let her motion set forward, in a sudden burst. Her chest thrust in that direction, as well, bumping his. No doubt they'd both end up on the ground, but at least she'd wind up on top... ]

[ He should have seen that coming. If he were in his right mind, he would have seen that coming and reacted appropriately. But no. No, his mouth felt like lava was being forced down his throat and his body felt like a burning wick. Overall, not feeling great.

Her chest colliding with his surprised him, but then the momentum alarmed him as he toppled over with a thud. ]

...owwie.

[ He whines as pain seared across his back and the head. ]

[ Musashi made herself comfortable, sitting on his stomach, though careful to keep her weight at her knees so as not to put pressure on him. Either way, though, he was pinned, and Musashi was looking pretty smug about it. ]

Ready to say "please"?

[ He looked up glaring at her but then he realizes something. The view is pretty good.

He pauses and just stares, face still red and hot from the spiciness but he is focused to drill this image in his head. ]

....If I don't will you just stay like this?

[ He is not going to say it then, if the way he laces his fingers behind his head was any indication. He's ready to die from the heat first. ]

...

[ She lifts her hips, only to drop her weight directly on his stomach. Which 56kg doesn't seem like much until it's going right into the solar plexis. ]

[ He tightens the muscles of his core the moment he saw he rise, but it just barely stopped the force from really affecting and most of the damage came through as he curled grunted in pain.

Then he starts to laugh, a weak laugh but laughing none the less. ]

Ha..ha...haha...ha...oh it hurts to laugh....

You're the kind of guy who needs to be told to not dig their own grave, huh?

[ Musashi sighed, helping herself to another spoonful of cold cream. She adjusted herself, once more, to take her weight off of him, at least. ]

I know some folks get real attached to their pride, but at some point you hit rock bottom, don't you?

You'd think so, right?

[ He groans under her, slowly moving to try and gain some....balance? Coughing a bit as he calms down and the spicy heat comes back. Suddenly his eyes sharpen and his hands shoots up and grabs her wrists. ]

Got you!

[ And with her weight mostly off of him, Bishop manages to sit up and now pulls the hand holding the cup of ice cream towards him while he sticks his tongue out. You'd think he'd be above this childishness, but no. No he is not. ]

[ His action works... by some definition of "works".

What happens, in actuality, is the ice cream bowl smashing into his face, spreading the remaining ice cream in a big mess all over the guy, and Musashi can't help but feel like the whole ordeal only further proves her point. ]

... Geeze, buddy.

[ He can't even be upset. The moment the ice cream goes down his throat, the flame is quenched and he flops back down with relief. ]

Don't give me that. I'll buy you some shaved ice as compensation, just...give me a minute.

[ He groans loudly followed by a deep inhale and exhale. He's almost forgotten how quiet it is in his head without the screaming pain of a burning mouth. ]

I'll give you credit, your mind went to repaying me, first, instead of cleaning yourself up, but...

[ She reaches down to spoon a bit of the excess ice cream on his face with her finger, bringing it back to her lips to suckle off. ]

You definitely want to clean up, first.

[ He's just hearing a lot of he won, he never begged or said please. ]

We could just stay here and wait until it rains and it washes the ice cream off my face, and it gets your kimono wet, and you can still be on top of me...

[ He's kidding, half. Definitely half. But mostly still out of his mind and slowly coming down from....wherever his mind is at the moment. ]

... Yeah, you're on your own.

[ Musashi pushed herself up, stepping back over him and taking no pause in her step as she begins to do just what she implied; just walk away. She was starting to wonder why a guy like him doubting her identity bothered her even a little bit in the first place. ]

...okay. See you around.

[ He exhaled now able to actually relax without some parallel universe genderbent Musashi sitting on him. ]

Don't eat anything suspicious! And thanks for ice cream!

[ A beat. ]

Wait, I bought that.
