March 2022 Mini Event

MAIN NAVIGATION
The Night Parade is fast-approaching and each faction will be busy with their own preparations.
1. SHUTEN CLAN
The Celestial Phoenix Casino, a fairly popular casino in the Shuten territory, is overdue on its protection money. This money is sorely needed for parade preparations. Unfortunately, the casino has decided it doesn't need to pay up because they've hired some new unaffiliated muscle. Neither the manager nor their new muscle are the type to listen to reason, so be prepared to exert some intimidation and force to convince these new bodyguards to take their business elsewhere.
The brute squad working for the Celestial Phoenix seems to be made up of several different youkai. Some of them are more human looking than others, but you'll notice no Oni. Even independent Oni wouldn't dare turn against the Shuten Clan. Even lacking in Oni, these thugs are armed to the teeth, swinging several deadly weapons and even a few firearms. This could get rough, so be prepared for the worst. Take the gangsters protecting the Celestial Phoenix out or convince them it’s not worth it.
Once inside, you'll discover that the owner, in a panic, has locked himself inside the casino's value with the protection money owed. This might take some doing to get open...
2. SUTOKU ALLIANCE
The Kappa want to be left alone and the Daitengu has asked Sutoku Alliance members to assure their wishes are respected. Members are tasked with convincing people to stay away from the Kappa's riverside facilities by whatever means necessary. Of course, you may want to take a look for yourself to see what they’re being so secretive about. That’s not recommended, if you don’t want to get into trouble.
It’s not just strangers who are nosy, though. Retinues from both the Shuten and Tamamo clans are making an appearance and asking why the inspections are taking so long. Why are the Kappa dragging their feet? The Alliance prefers to avoid direct violence, so it's up to you to talk to these clan captains in a way that convinces them to leave the Kappa alone.
If you're curious enough to dive deeper into the Kappa's business, however, even your Alliance membership isn't going to keep you safe. The Kappa themselves seem to disappear from sight the further into the sewers you go, as if invisible. Preventing yourself from being spotted by a security camera or a patrolling Kappa is almost impossible. Cover your faces, stick to the shadows, and you might just notice that... they’re building something down there.
Something for the Parade? Who knows? But it’s definitely not decorations or a float...
3. DEPARTMENT OF THE ENMA
The parade route for the Night Parade needs to be "cleaned up". The Department is tasked with getting the low level street gangs and squatters to clear out. The homeless population will resist and may not be so easily persuaded to give up their spots. Your best bet is to offer them food, booze, or shelter for the night. The street gangs will assuredly fight back. Use your strength or your wits to get the job done.
The gangs will not typically be that tough, most don’t want to step up to the Department's goon squad too heavily lest they wind up in a cell for the rest of their lives. Still, some might be hopped up on encouraging substances and try to escalate. Don’t worry, though. You have the authority of the Enma on your side! Don’t think they will get away with waving a weapon in your face.
The homeless, though, lack strength or weapons. They are more fueled by desperation to keep their spots. Winter hasn't been kind to them, after all, and they don’t have much respect for the Enma's authority. Their belligerent behavior is loud, and often violent despite their absence of means to properly defend themselves. At worst, they’ll probably try to use biological warfare. Don’t ask what's in those bottles...
4. TAMAMO CLAN
Parade costumes need to be designed, crafted, modeled, and then likely mended knowing the rough and tumble yokai. The textile shops and tailors of the area need Tamamo Clan members to help them out. Costumes vary from extremely ornate to extremely sexy. These costumes need to merge form and function, for the Tamamo clan parade marchers that means they need to be able to sell their specific wares while wearing them. (wink wonk)
None of the costumes are floor ready and the shop bosses urge you that these cannot be seen by the public until they are ready. This won’t stop some peeping toms and tammies from trying to scope out the goods. Most of the voyeurs are spying for perverted reasons, but some are from shops outside of Tamamo’s influence trying to copy the designs for themselves. Either way, Tamamo Clan members aren't expected to be just pretty faces. So rough’em up.
5. TASTE TEST (ALL FACTIONS)
For those less interested in their faction's work, the restaurants in the Tamamo territory also need help finalizing their menu offerings for the Night Parade. Taste testers and creative cooks wanted! These aren’t just any dishes though and may have some interesting effects. One may be so spicy that everything burns, your face turns red, and you need to cool yourself off. Or maybe your dish is so good that you need to take a nap – it doesn't matter where you are, you'll just fall asleep right on the spot. Another possibility is a dish that gives you unstoppable energy – literally. It will make you want to get up and go and never stop moving. If you stop moving, it may cause a bigger problem.

So, Felix is also with him when he states that they need to get the coward out of there. Honestly, what kind of moron just hides in a vault when there are avenues to actually escape? It is going to be a matter of time if someone just locks themselves away in a space...but it will be a long time. One he isn't looking forward to waiting.
Felix catches the beer can, and opens it, taking a few sips. Then, when the man asks him, he considers the question. He doesn't exactly consider himself a strategist, but...something does occur to him. ]
We have the others stop hammering away, have them talk about going out somewhere else—just an offhand comment—and then walk off. I'm not sure how thick the walls are in there, but the guy inside may chance a peek once it quiets down. Just a little bit. If the coward opens it up even that much, we could get something wedged in there.
no subject
You know, this could work! All we gotta do is just wait---
[*BAM!* Just before he could finish that thought, one of the Oni's starts ramming himself against the titanium steel door of the vault. The overgrown brute keeps slamming himself against the door multiple times to no avail. It's upon the fourth slam that Dante loses his patience and just snaps.]
Bert and Ernie give it a fucking REST!
[That last bit comes out in a fierce roar, one that billowed up from deep within his core. For a second there, Dante's eyes flash red and he doesn't look the least bit pleased with anyone at this moment. Not while the stupid red Oni and blue Oni is trying to ram into the vault door with brute strength alone.]
Quit it with banging, capisce? We're trying something new, courtesy of Felix here.
[He lets out a tense sigh as the big guys finally back off. The stage is all yours now, Felix. Time to put this plan into action.]
Alright time to pack up, guys! We can't seem to break in, so I guess we gotta leave.
[Wink, wink.]
no subject
...Anything else that he's thinking halts for a moment at the large roar, and for a second he is all with him, but he does also notice the way the other male's eyes flare red, blinking in surprise.
Right, well. It stopped those two goofballs, so there is that.
At the very least, the two have backed off, and Felix shifts slightly, moving into position nearby the door, but well out of sight.
For what it's worth, the real challenge is when the silence sets in. Though it does help that when you have people as large as Oni, the sound of their footfalls going quiet are noticeable. Which in of itself a benefit, because it helps convince the person who is lying in wait that maybe the others have temporarily given up their attempts to break in.
It does take a bloody thirty minutes or so, but lo and behold, the door to the vault is being unlatched, and then slowly opened. Just a crack, though it's not enough, because he's opening it some more to get a better view.
That's when Felix rushes in, swinging his foot to brace against the partially open vault, throw some beer on his face, grab the guy, who is stunned, and begin to drag him halfway out of the vault room...not the most elegant solution, because it is hard to keep a hold on a flailing man but whatever. ]
I've got the imbecile. Looks like the idiot really thought he could run off with some money from the vault too.
[ The man indeed had a bag he was holding onto which has some money within. ]
Hmph, and don't you dare try anything. I'm right here but if you manage to escape me, you'll wish you hadn't dared.
[ What with Dante and the two Oni right there...though of course the man is desperate, so who knows. Maybe he might if he thinks he has a chance, still, given he tried to lock himself away. ]
no subject
The man promptly falls right back to sleep the moment his eyes closed. Thirty minutes is a long time to wait when you’re as impatient as Dante. That’s why he decides to catch some much needed shut eye as this headache pounds away. The two Oni linger nearby whispering among themselves as they wait beside the wall close to Felix. It’s clear that the Shuten Clan didn’t want to kill the casino manager but rather get their long overdue protection money.
However, killing is on the table now after that nasty gun battle but the blue Oni states that it would be imperative to keep the manager alive. So that’s why they wait so patiently while grumbling about “Red Coat” sleeping on the job. Eventually, the long wait comes to an end and Felix is the one to get the jump on the guy.]
I can’t believe this plan worked.
[Dante comments before a loud yawn rips through him. He’s exhausted, okay? He literally had to fend off against a small army of mooks earlier. The man deserves a pay raise and a vacation already.]
Great work, Felix! [He hops out of the chair and approaches the casino manager with a shockingly friendly smile.] Hey, buddy!
We've been waiting to see you all evening! Mind having a chat with my two buds here?
[Dante gestures crudely at the two Oni peering down over his shoulders. The Red Oni steps forward as yanks the casino manager up by the lapels of his tacky mustard yellow suit before tossing him at his brother. It’s then that the blue Oni socks the dude right in the kisser before yanking that bag of cash with an unamused grunt.]
Eh, it looks like we got the cash.
[He mutters as the two Oni escorts the casino manager out with them. They’re most likely going to take the dude to their boss. Dante doesn’t exactly know who the boss is but this case is closed.]
I hope that means we get a bonus, kid.
[Dante smirks as he glances over at Felix.]
no subject
But, better than the alternative for certain.
...The smirk remains as he watches the theatrical movement of the man being tossed like a sack of potatoes over to the two Oni, and then socked deservedly in the face. ]
Looks like we did.
[ Then he'll change his attention from the leaving duo back to the other man. ]
I'm hoping the same.
After all, that was a lot of trouble that imbecile gave us. Unfortunately for him and his gang of clowns, I don't think they expected anyone skilled enough to take them on, hm?
[ His way of certainly acknowledging that Dante sure pulled his weight and then some. ]
no subject
They sure didn’t! You should’ve seen the look on their faces when I let them have it.
[He laughs as they make their way down the stairs into the ruined lobby. There’s nothing but bodies and bullet casing everywhere. It’s quite a grisly scene, especially since some of those bodies are missing limbs. Some of the other Shuten guys came prepared as well with katanas and shit. While Dante has a sword of his own, he barely used it during the onslaught.]
But I gotta admit, I kind of feel like some of our guys went a bit overboard.
[He mutters once he steps over the corpse of a mutilated turtle-like goblin in a pinstripe suit.]
I’m all for fighting but I’m not about to carve out their eyes or anything.
[That’s just poor taste in his book but whatever.]
no subject
[ Naturally, Felix ensured his own blade was used. Though he doesn't think he had the opportunity or went as far as to chop any limbs off. Just used whatever force was necessary to bring anyone coming at him, or nearby hostiles, down.
Everywhere he looks it's a damn mess, though. At one point, Felix just starts...avoiding looking at the bodies whenever he can, going a little quiet. It has admittedly been awhile since he's seen such a gruesome scene. At the time he doesn't think he noticed, just being concerned with moving forward or leaving the rest to the grunts who had come with them.
But then his eyes flicker over to the mutilated corpse. A flashback comes to him, when he was younger, and on his maiden battle...when he saw Dimitri reveal his other nature.
He blinks and looks over at Dante, barely catching what he said. ]
They don't care. It's probably not the first time they've done this. Not that it's any justification for acting like mindless beasts.
Hmph, not to mention them wasting time on making a mess will leave them open if there are other enemies around. Fools.
no subject
[Dante mentions as he surveys the damage done here. It's blatantly obvious that Dante isn't too keen about some of the members in their ranks. Yakuza or not, this was overkill in his book and he's aggravated that he played such a prominent role in it.]
We better watch our backs from here on out. I know we're all playin' for the same team and all but keep an eye out for trouble.
[He's not certain what kind of trouble would roll their way but he suspects something will happen after this mess. Mentioning mess, is that slot machine over there pouring out coins?]
Oh hey! Free money!
[Dante wanders right over towards the ruined slot machine with a gleeful hum. This thing has seen better days judging from all the bullet holes. He walks right up to it and grabs a few coins before pocketing them as quickly as possible.]
You better get on this, Felix! Money don't grow on trees.
no subject
[ What Dante says is something he thinks about. A code of honor. Well, it's not as if he's wrong. Beasts can be mindless, though even they can think all the same. Dogs will try to ensure that there is no meaningless fighting in their pack, if they have one, for example.
What grabs his attention immediately is the warning that Dante gives.]
I will. We're in a precarious enough of a situation. To trust something won't eventually go wrong would be foolish.
[ Though he thinks he can appreciate it all the same. The man is an experienced warrior, so he must be familiar when knowing trouble is on the horizon.
He'll go straight on over to one of the ruined slot machines. ]
...My old man would probably have a fit if he saw me taking money like this. Though, I don't really care.
[ And that is why he takes some of the money. He's learned the value of ensuring he keeps a good amount on his hands, especially since he doesn't have incredibly easy access to it the way he did when he was...not here. ]
no subject
[He says while trying his best to grab as many coins as possible. They're going to have to cash in those coins at the front but at least they'll some extra spending cash. Making money in Jigoku-cho is going to be rough, especially since none of them know the do's and don'ts of the mob. Dante knows a little bit about organized crime but he never participated in it until now. So even someone like him is at a bit of a disadvantage.]
Don't tell your folks at home what kind of mischief you got yourself into, especially not your family.
[If things constantly end up becoming a massive shootout, then things are bound to take a left turn sooner and later. That's Dante's logic in a nutshell. He wouldn't be surprised if the boss man Toraguma makes them do a hit. Things are calm between the four factions but that fragile peace isn't going to last for long.]
On that note, got any siblings here in town?
no subject
I think I'm tempted, though it may not be worth the trouble to deal with the result of any unnecessary concern due to it.
[ Felix believes he can weather whatever judgment his father decides to give to him as a result. But, it's undeniable that he would also have to deal with a reasonable amount of worry alongside that. At the thought, his smile slips away, though.
For a moment, he briefly wonders how his father is doing back home. He must be beside himself.
Not that he cares.
Not to mention, Felix has little time for the moment to think about it, when he's asked about siblings. ]
...No. I wouldn't find him here, anyway.
[ Glenn passed on doing something many considered "heroic". He wouldn't be in a wretched place like this. ]
Not that I haven't seen familiar faces around here. Just not family.
What about you?
no subject
[Dante mutters once they make their way towards the lobby to cash in their metaphorical coins. There’s a machine by the clerk's desk that exchanges the coins for actual money. While it has a few bullet holes in it, the money exchanger is still operational which is good news for our unlikely duo. Dante gives the machine a little smack to get it running properly before pouring in the coins. They’re both about to cash out in the high thousands since this is all in yen. A decent stipend for a job well done in Dante’s opinion.]
We’re twins, you know. [He states with a lopsided smile.] I had the esteemed displeasure of sharing a womb with that asshole but yeah, I’m looking for him.
[It’s complicated, you know? His relationship with Vergil is complicated as all hell and beyond fucked up. The two of them never got along as kids. They used to fight sometimes to the point of bloodshed. However, not everything was all bad between them. Vergil used to let Dante sleep on his lap whenever he was reading and they would cuddle under the blankets in fear of the dark. They were your average siblings but with an extraordinary lineage. That is until that one fateful night. The memories still haunt them both to this day but Dante likes to think he’s the more well-adjusted twin.]
Before I arrived here, we were about to do something stupid. [And dangerous but he leaves that part out for now.]
I was hoping he would be here but I haven’t seen Vergil around.
no subject
What his mind is currently more focused on happens to be what the other has said about his family. He has a brother...like him, though the situation between the two seems to be vastly different. So he pauses, listening to what Dante has to say of him. This "Vergil", that is. ]
...if both of you were about to do something incredibly foolish, I won't be surprised if you eventually do end up finding him. It could be that he's still dealing with whatever idiocy surrounding the paperwork and that line when we first arrived.
Or hiding somewhere. But, I doubt someone would want to waste time laying low all the time.
[ He doesn't know enough of Vergil's personality either but he has a feeling that he wouldn't be the type to do so. Especially if he's related to someone like Dante. ]
My elder brother had ended up pleasing so many with what he did last before he passed. That is why I can't imagine encountering him here.
