[ Aware that the less desirable aspects of this job have been delegated to the new recruits, Xingqiu still considers lending a hand here and there. However, he would much prefer to inventory the toys that have already gone through testing and have been approved. Someone has to keep track of everything right? It shouldn't be too difficult to tally the number of toys found per category and who made the discovery. Although perhaps someone has already been assigned to that task, not that he's heard any directives beyond sifting through the sea of toys found in the warehouse. That could lead to further unnecessary work. It's best to organize from the start...
Maybe he should find someone and inquire about how inventory is being tracked along with how it will be stored.
But that's going to wait a second! His attention has been grabbed by the industrial shelving, giving the shelf a push causes it to move along its tracks until it bumps into the shelf behind it. If he uses a bit more force then both shelves move. It's an effective system surely as it leaves plenty of room once all the shelves are pushed together. And what's that he spies! It's a rolling rack. So of course, he is going to entertain himself by pushing that back and forth. ]
Hm. Neat.
[ Noting he is no longer alone in this part of the warehouse he'll face whoever approaches him. ]
What? Do you want a turn?
— b. open to sutoku
[ It was difficult to pick up on it at first. The sound was barely audible through that noise reverberating in the warehouse. But it was there for anyone with a keen sense of hearing. Following the sound would lead to some far-off corner and there was Xingqiu.
Don't mind him as he is on his hands and knees, that's not what's important here! What is important is that he is digging through a mountain of discarded and dilapidated toys in search of something! That something being whatever is making that horrendous sound that echoes through this corner of the warehouse. It's terrible and he will put an end to it. Probably in a violent way. There is no other option. A bit occupied in attempting to rid this place of this evil, it takes him a moment to sense that he isn't alone. However, he doesn't bother glancing back as he continues his search. ]
Don't just stand there, I need your assistance.
— c. open to sutoku
Excuse me!
[ If it sounds like someone is calling out from overhead that's because Xingqiu has made his way up a shelf, so he's about ten feet off the ground. You know this being the kind of dangerous thing teenagers like to do in their spare time, however, there is a reason for him to be where he is at. Once he has someone's attention he will show them some toys he has found high up on the shelf. Some nice, normal, toys that appear to be in good condition; the problem is that he needs assistance getting them down in one piece. ]
If I toss these down at you would you be able to catch them?
— d. open to sutoku
[ Perhaps it wasn't the brightest of decisions to just stick his hand into a box of random-looking toy parts because as he digs through he suddenly yanks his hand back with a yelp. That's a lesson learned! It seems someone forgot a box cutter in there and he just stabbed himself. Well, the injury is easy enough to mend but there isn't much he can do immediately about the bloody mess. ]
— e. open to sutoku
[ Recalling that rolling rack from earlier, he got something of an idea. Knowing everyone is hard at work maybe it would help to roll drinks around on it. So then take your pick. Although refreshments will be served in questionable drink wear. For example this lovely mug. Or how about this? Unless there is a preference for this one instead. Or maybe even this other lovely piece. There is just about anything...
Hey, it was all he could find! ]
Would you like a drink?
— f. open to all
[ Completing his part of the job, Xingqiu leaves the warehouse more worn out than he expected and certainly far filthier than he would have liked. He isn't even sure what those toys contained, or what exactly the liquids they expelled were. He doesn't want to know, he just wants to grab something to eat and then head home (straight to bed, of course). With that in mind, he stops at one of the local bakeries grabbing a slice of lemon pie and a cup of tea, all to go.
Rather than dine at home he finds a nice bench to settle down in and eat his treat. He isn't feeling chatty at this point but he does suppose he stands out in his dirty clothes. His hair is a total mess with some fine strands sticking up oddly, that would be the slime that got in it. ]
THE GIFT OF SONG ; — a. open to all
[ If you try speaking to him, he won't be answering. Waving a hand in front of his face will get his attention, however, all he will offer is a puzzled expression as if unable to pick up on any words spoken. A tilt of his head follows and a second later will have Xingqiu removing an earplug from his right ear. ]
Yes? Can I help you?
[ No, probably not if there is an interest in stopping the magpies. While he isn't a fan of their musical talent (as they disturb the peace much like a young lady he knows in Liyue), he also isn't about to ask them to cease what makes them happy. ]
WILDCARD ;
( ooc; If none of these prompts work, toss whatever you want my way or just PM and we can work something out. )
[ It's late when Chongyun pulls out his phone, finally having time away from acting as a ranked Tamamo and entertaining the new recruits to have some down time. He's standing outside the gym used for the giant pillowfight the Tamamos had earlier. Unlike before, it's quiet now, with the rest of the clan having moved on to movies or retired for the evening.
He had checked earlier. While most of the event had been cleaned up, there are still plenty of pillows and futons around to play with. ]
Are you done with the Sutoku welcome event?
[ He ends a pin along with that message; Xingqiu's phone will give a little bing as the mark appears on the mobile map to show Chongyun's location. ]
[ If Chongyun expects some immediate response then he is out of luck, Xingqiu won't even glance at his phone until he feels nice and ready to respond to anyone. It takes him about twenty minutes to get back to his friend, in that interval of time he polished off the slice of lemon cake along with the cup of tea he purchased. Then well, he just didn't want to think. When he is about ready to get up and go, he does give his phone a peek.
Oh! It was Chongyun! And maybe now he feels a bit remorseful that he didn't check his messages earlier. ]
[ He doesn't mind waiting, content to lean back against the wall and watch the starry sky for a while, and perks up when his friend finally responds. They were ... working? That doesn't sound very fun. But it does suit the Sutoku Alliance, which is all about commerce and business. ]
It's a surprise. Will you come to the place I marked and see in person? I think you might like it. How about it? Join me?
[ It not only doesn't sound very fun, but for the most part, it truly wasn't. It had been tedious, lackluster, aimless, and dirty work. The whole ordeal felt like a disorganized mess. But it was over. They all managed to pull through, well, those who put in the effort. On the bright side, Hu Tao had been there, she kept his spirits up. On the other hand, he also ended up committing something like a crime. Okay, it was a crime but he could only take so much of that music... ]
I noted the marked location. Then you're not home yet?
I suppose I can head over there but I can't promise you that I would make for great company at the moment. Also, I smell. And I'm sticky.
[ "Possibly not great company" reads as needing some cheering up, in Chongyun's mind. That may not be his strongest suit, but he can certainly try. There's a whole gym filled with pillows for them to battle with, so, in his mind, he's got a shot at this. Which is why he promptly responds. ]
That's fine, you'd have gotten smelly and sticky after being with me anyway. So a little more won't matter, right?
[ He totally does not see how that could be read in a very salacious way. Nope, he's just throwing that whole statement out there unironically. It's true, isn't it?? They'd work up a sweat doing pillow battles ... ]
[ There is nothing to be concerned about because the person on the other end doesn't think too much about it. After rummaging through piles upon piles of dirty broken down and disgusting toys his immediate thoughts are to wonder if perhaps there is some connection to be found. Although if Chongyun said he might like it then he cannot imagine what it would really be.
All he knows is that he doesn't want to become any more smelly and sticky.
Perhaps this is some form of retribution? Which only prompts him to be wary until he reminds himself he is communicating with Chongyun. He knows what the exorcist is waiting for: A positive response from him. He doesn't readily give it. Despite having gotten to his feet, a nice warm shower and bed are calling him. ]
[ He does wonder if it would have been kinder to just let Xingqiu go home if he isn’t in the best mood and already tired … but they’ll only have access to the pillow hall for a short while. Sure, they could rent it out again, but that would be expensive for just the two of them. When will another chance like this come? They haven’t done this kind of thing since they were kids.
In the meanwhile he walks to the closest vending machine and gets two canned iced coffees. At the very least he’ll be waiting there with a drink in hand, ready to offer it to his friend. Caffeine should help, right?
If the other boy is too tired to play then Chongyun naturally won’t press the issue. ]
[ Upon receiving that last text and quickly reading it, Xingqiu finally gets to his feet. His phone is tucked away as there won't be a need for it while he makes his way to Chongyun's location. It takes him a while, after all, he is deep within the Sutoku Alliance's territory. Imagine, what are the chances a warehouse full of toys in various states would be found within their own lands? It's odd, odder still is that they weren't given any specifications nor any guidance on how to inventory their finds.
But truthfully, he doesn't want to give it further thought.
Finally, he arrives; upon spotting Chongyun he lazily lifts a hand for a wave. His steps lack their usual pep, maybe he wasn't as exhausted as he thought if he was able to journey all the way here but perhaps the whole activity was demoralizing. Rather than his usual pristine state, Xingqiu's clothes are marked by stains from various toys and even his hair isn't in its usual neat style.
And what does he have to say? Nothing right away, but he does end up yawning before closing the distance between them and then throwing his arm around (along with his weight against) Chongyun. ]
[As Hu Tao looked at the various colorful mugs, she gave a giggle. Even though the job of finding new recruits wasn't what she wanted, it was something she had to do. However, she wasn't complaining when she found herself amused at the inventory.
That said, as she looked at the mugs, she stared at the mysterious liquid before looking back at Xingqiu.]
[ Naturally he follows her gaze to the array of mugs he had selected to serve beverages in. Again, it is all he could find on such short notice therefore there is no point in complaining. As for what is contained inside. That's not so mysterious. Not to Xingqiu anyway as he had served the drinks. Although now he realizes that perhaps it's not something his friend has picked up on.
That slowly causes a smile to form on his face, even if it is marked by weariness. Perhaps, once in a while, for a cause that he sees merit in, Xingqiu does give his best effort. This time, not wanting to burden new recruits with such a heavy workload he had made his way to the warehouse. ]
I have no fear. Not of what's contained within these mugs anyway.
[Again, she kept looking at the liquid before leaning a little further back against her seat. It was no secret that she knew what it was but she was curious to see if he was willing to repeat what happened a few months back.
However, the last thing she wanted was for the both of them to drink on the job. Instead?]
Then is that a yes or a no? You're not giving me a straightforward answer.
[She said before narrowing her eyes at said liquid. She wanted to believe her alcohol tolerance had gotten slightly better and yet...? She couldn't hide her own disappointment that she may or may not be able to handle it.]
If I must peel away words for you to understand meaning then I must say that I am severely disappointed in you, apprentice Hu Tao.
[ Much like her, Xingqiu himself arrived at the same quandary the moment he found the refreshments made available to those within the warehouse. Surely anyone with enough logic could see that this is a conflict of interests. What could be regarded as a reward could lead to inefficiency. And he does suspect not many are content with the workload assigned to them. This leads him to wonder what exactly the other factions are engaging in to welcome their new members. Not that it matters all that much. ]
Have noticed?
[ It may not be apparent to those new to the city, or anyone who is focused on work, but with time it does become obvious. He is sure she has picked up on the fact that not everyone is present. Honestly, he can't completely fault them for being absent yet all the same — well he never had a great impression of leadership within their faction so really it makes no difference. ]
It's not like I want to be here, either.
Still contemplating your decision. There is water available.
Oh woe is me for these long hours I am working! Between managing my business and having to find new recruits? My mind is about to fall on itself.
[But then again, she was never one to take a moments rest when it came to her jobs. Even when she was spending less time focusing on Sutoku, she does make it a priority to ensure that she fulfilled her contract. That said, she had to admit, she was starting to feel herself slightly tired from how much she was working.
Not that she would admit it out loud. Not yet anyway.]
Even so, I'm still impressed that you decided to take up this role. After what happened a couple of months ago, I figured you would try to do something else.
[With that, she kept on staring at the drink. Giving a slight frown, that's when she took a quick sip before looking back at him.]
But I like to think that I've build up my tolerance! Maybe just a little.
[ There is an understanding that for some people maneuvering through an array of tasks may be difficult. Xingqiu is not such a person, though he may avoid some work, it isn't due to exhaustion but rather disinteresting. Working within this warehouse has to be one of the least fulfilling things he has ever done. It's compounded by the lack of organization, and leadership, things he considered tackling himself but ultimately opted against.
There are people who should be taking those positions. But what does he knows?
So far, he has done his share of work. Although he not only searched for merchandise in adequate condition, he also started cataloging it and packing it neatly by type. Which makes sense for the son of a guild manager. ]
Mind manners, will you? Besides, I could very much say the same thing about you.
[ There is a reason why he is here and it isn't the work. For Xingqiu, who wants to do good and right, it doesn't feel just to leave a bunch of new recruits to toil away on their own. Besides, this isn't his first time doing some form of manual labor. ]
Oh. And what's this? Hu Tao, are you drinking on the job?
[ He is teasing, of course, they've been here long enough to deserve a break of sorts. ]
Well, that's one of us building some resistance. I can't say my tolerance has changed.
[Was this what it was like to be seen as 'old'? Was this the the reason why Zhongli and various older people like to drink a lot? While she was aware that drinking was a past time most would enjoy, she never saw the appeal of it.
Right now, as she felt her face flaring up a little from a sip, a slight frown was seen.]
I'm afraid so, how silly of me. I suppose this is what happens when one is growing older as they feel the need to drink to drown the hardships of life!
[Was she joking or was she being playful? That was up to Xingqiu to decide. But as of right now? All she could do was narrate to herself a small little poem before tapping the tip of her finger against the cup.]
Let's see, how did that poem go again? I do believe it goes something like this...!
[With that, she cleared her throat.]
The hundred rivers flow east towards the sea, When will they come back to the west again? If the young and vigorous do not work hard, In old age, they will be sorry in vain.
[ Her pale complexion makes her flushed face all the more obvious, his smile settles somewhere between amusement and concern. It's a tug-o-war, difficult to settle on a single emotion at the moment but she had made a choice when he had a variety of beverages available. He would not admonish her, no, she is a reasonable and responsible adult, and that much he is aware of.
A few months apart, yet in an odd sense, there is a boundary. It's almost comical the more he considers it. She is an adult, he remains a child. Yet they're both trapped in this city where anything her hand can reach so can his.
Slowly he reaches for a mug of his own, hand hovering over a selection of alcoholic drinks but ultimately he settles on some tea. Not hot, not cold, tepid. Akin to his sentiment regarding this task of theirs.
He listens, he doesn't interject. He understands a joke when it comes from her (most of the time anyway). Presently, however, he wouldn't blame her if she wanted to drown away wariness, but their job is not done. A poem is recited, although he isn't certain if the reference made can truly allude to them at work. No. There is another poem that may be more suitable. ]
That is very well recited. But given our present situation. I believe there may be a more appropriate poem.
In her humble cottage, fragrant silks are things unknown. She grieves that go-between refuse to help her, for who would fall for homely skills and honesty? Frugal dress and simple make-up gather only pity.
She can boast of agile fingers, clever with a needle, but can’t compete with painting comely eyebrows. More desperate every year, she embroiders golden thread on bridal gowns for other girls to wear.
[Despite feeling the warmth on her face, she could already feel herself getting lightheaded. However, this time, she was going to take her time and pace herself with her drink. It was funny, she was 18 and yet, she felt as if nothing has changed. She was an adult but she felt no different.
She was definitely getting older but it seems like she hasn't changed. She once remembered something her grandfather had told her. People only felt as old as they feel and age shouldn't hinder ones ability to enjoy life. And here, she found herself chuckling as she saw Xingqiu with some tea.
Not that she meant to tease him, she just felt that rather old in comparison to him at the moment. That was, of course, before she heard the poem. For a moment, she gave a frown as she leaned in slightly closer. Narrowing her eyes, she hoped to give off a somewhat intimdating look.]
Oh? Are you suggesting that I'm old? That's rather rude. Don't you know it's impolite to say that to a girl?
[Not that she meant it, she wanted to see what his reaction would be.]
[ Kou glances up from a smile. He's been poking at the pile of junk half-heartedly. This isn't his idea of a good time, regardless, so he's not making a very concerted effort. He reaches out, hesitates, and then grabs the octopus mug. Look, it's weird, but it's a cool kind of weird. ]
Not sure how much longer they want us to keep at this, you know?
[ He's apparently not quite aware he's talking to someone from the Ember app. ]
[ That's all said with a smile. Despite being aware that no great strides are being made to fulfill this task, it's also understandable. People suddenly found themselves here and thrust upon them was a job few would find enjoyment in. Whatever little they accomplish would be something, besides, their orders were rather vague when it comes to this type of work as simple as it may be.
Allowing Kou to choose between the mugs, Xingqiu did make sure there were a variety of drinks available. No need to solely serve the alcoholic beverages provided by their leader, that would be counterproductive. ]
Hm. Well, I don't believe everyone from the alliance is here. Some have already opted to leave. I would say it's up to you how long you wish to remain here, there really is no proper guidance. So if you feel just about done then that's fine, you can go ahead and go, Kou.
[ Fortunately there is tea available although it's not the usually lovingly brewed kind. It came from a bottle, but at least it was an option, just like there is water and juice available. He is aware that not everyone wants to drink any alcoholic beverages while on the job or begin their journey into the world of spirits in this environment. ]
No. Not really. I don't believe any of the lieutenants are forcing anyone to stay. As far as I'm aware, the only reason to remain here is to get some extra earnings. But I suppose it's likely far more appealing for those who have recently arrived [ he nods towards Kou ] compared to those who have already established themselves. There is really no allure if your finances are sound.
[ As for how casual the Sutoku Alliance's members are. Well, that is a bit more difficult to gauge. There are disagreements, that's certain, and not everyone is as easy going he has come to find. But just avoid anyone that wants to nag! ]
Depends on who you talk to. That's what I would say. My own experience is due to attempting to remain in the background, that gives me a bit of leeway.
So that is to say, you are uncertain of how willing you are to participate in the Alliance's endeavors. Not even to fulfill your contract?
[ Honestly, it's just a light-hearted jab and nothing more. Soon enough he ends up picking a mug of his own which he nurses for a bit before taking a small sip himself. He regards the liquid a moment. Honestly, he is very much in the same boat. What could have been done is now nothing more than a missed opportunity and right now it just feels that people are making a lot of decisions while he is being dragged along for the ride.
It's a bumpy one at that. ]
But I guess the more immediate goal is gaining financial influence. Admittedly, with that sole purpose in mind, I can't say I am all that interested either. Although it's necessary — I thought to do as much as I can, as quickly as possible, and then well — I am here now in the same situation as before.
Well, I guess I can't live happily picking Sunsettias. And there are no Sunsettias here.
Mmmm. It's more that I'm willing to fulfill my contract... but I also want to be sure that what I'm supporting is something I support. I don't want to hurt people if I don't have to or steal from people or make peoples' lives worse, you know?
[ He takes a slow sip, considering. ]
So... there are things I won't do. Or I'll oppose. No matter what the contract says.
I see, you're a man of conviction then. Not once do you consider wavering from your morals. A good man, I would say.
[ While he may not speak of his own principles, swiftly agreeing with Kou's sentiments is indicative of his own leanings. His code is simple: Be good, and do good. Within this city, there are difficulties. People are divided into factions that at times are at odds with one another. Inaction is probably the safest route not to cause harm but that isn't his style either.
While he may not get deeply involved, he does what little he can when he is aware that a direct positive result is attainable. So maybe that just means helping little older ladies cross the street... ]
Contribute in whatever way you can, what's the use in becoming a different, lesser person.
MAID CAFE ; — a. ( substory one: EMBER GO ) open to all
[ It's a cozy little shop, difficult to locate as it's off the beaten path. On the second floor, above a real estate office, a small cafe can be found. Most of its regulars happen to come from the many nearby businesses, typically young youkai fresh out of university (or so they claim). As far as anyone is aware hell hasn't spawned any form of higher education. Go figure maybe something recently appeared or they may just be lying. Either way, as long as there is money involved they are welcome to come in.
However, the updates to a certain application have caused some trouble. While there may be those willing to pay the price to step into the cafe, there are also those who are willing to circumvent the entry fee just so they can capture an elusive EMBER GO character.
The rare BunnyQiu can only be found within this area of the city (perhaps tied to the fact that Xingqiu himself works at what amounts to a maid cafe may have caused this version to appear only within the boundaries of the locale.) However, Xingqiu himself now stands in the way of gaining access to the sprite. Aware of why traffic has risen lately, he is quick to stop anyone at the door. ]
Only paying customers are allowed inside.
[ Either pay to get in or attempt to violently trespass. Take a chance and see how well that's going to go. ]

[ It's only to be expected of him to know the name of the current client, after all, they did call in advance. That was part of the point of booking appointments like this otherwise the illusion would be lost. However, he hasn't completely settled upon how he feels about anyone seeking the company of a pretend spouse. Not that it hasn't been completely lost on him that he too sinks into his own fantasies; Although there is a stark difference. He seeks his ideals, clients here seek to remedy their loneliness.
Preparations to meet his guest start from looking over details, which of course include the outfit the client selected for him to wear. So as long as the request is reasonable it would be fulfilled, otherwise, if the chosen garments are found to be indecent he would opt for the default. They can complain all they want later.
When the time comes for him to greet the customer, he is prepared with a (mostly amused) smile. ]
Welcome home, dear.
Why don't you settle in? I'll have dinner ready soon.
[ Well, not him really, the chef in charge of the kitchen prepares all meals including the ones the clients request their maids to prepare. The most Xingqiu does is present the dinner, maybe even garnish it, but that's about it. For now, he must lead his spouse by the hand to their table and settle them in. ]
But you'll have to be patient, okay? For the meanwhile would you like to do something to pass the time?
BOOK SHOP ;
[ The expansive city he found to be dotted with many book shops; all of which he knows their location by heart. Xingqiu doesn't favor any particular store and if possible he endeavors to visit a few when on the prowl for something new to read. Fortunately, most could be found within the Sutoku Alliance's territories. It not only helped him plan less troublesome routes to take but also made it much easier to bring home his purchases.
Today, he just happened to be searching for the second volume in a series of four books. With the first one completed he is ready to continue the journey through this tale. Although he is having some trouble locating the novel, he knows his way around most shops and typically avoids asking for assistance, yet where the book should be he finds everything in disarray. That doesn't discourage him from searching.
Slowly the spine of each book is read, his right hand out, index finger barely making contact with each book as his hand travels from novel to novel. Finally, he pauses and not because he found what he was looking for. ]

[ On this particular visit, he finds himself once again surprised. This isn't the first time he has come upon a familiar title among the books available in Jigokucho. He recalls some time ago speaking to a certain gentleman and recounting for him a tale he read long ago. Xingqiu also remembers beings surprised when he found a volume of that story, and now for a second time, he feels that same sensation.
He doesn't immediately remove the title from the shelf, instead, he pulls his hand back and finds himself smiling. A sigh can't be helped when he is flooded by thoughts of home. ]

[ Instead he is met with a book he is intimately familiar with. Tempted to draw it from the shelf he begins to pull the novel out from where it is housed only to suddenly push it right back in. How odd that something he penned would be here. How far has his published work traveled? It's a bit eerie, it's not even all that popular in Liyue itself but he knows it is appreciated in other lands. Yet, this feels awkward in a sense. It's almost like being reminded of some embarrassing moment of his childhood.
But it seems he isn't alone. He restrains a sigh and then faces his audience. ]
Yes, may I help you?
— c. ( probably nsfw ) open to all
[ Rather, the book his index finger lightly touches has no visible title on its spine. Naturally, he immediately removes it from the shelf and opens it right up only for him to place it back where he got it from. A hand is soon on his chin in thought, quietly contemplating what he just witnessed. Well, maybe it's a bit embarrassing, sure, but why is that kind of book in this section? ]
Well, that certainly doesn't belong here.
AROUND THE CITY ; — a. ( substory one: MORE EMBER GO STUFF ) open to all
[ Not seeing the point in this aspect of EMBER, there was a thought to engage with the application's new updates in order to attempt to comprehend the goal. So quickly the first character is caught and just as quickly he finds it dead. It hasn't even been thirty minutes! Now, what exactly did he do wrong? As puzzled as he is over this development it takes him a moment to realize he isn't alone as his attention has been glued to his phone's screen in disbelief.
And just like that, he looks up to see the face of the person whose sprite character is dead on his phone's screen. ]
I tried?

[ Waiting at the rundown, poorly thought-out business was Xingqiu. Already having come to an agreement with the internet cafe's inept owner (or rather his father), the teen had keys leading to the establishment which goes a long way in explaining as to how Xingqiu got inside while the cafe remained closed due to business needs ie the owner took off on his yacht to Macau or Las Vegas or whatever any of that means.
For the moment, aware that he lacks knowledge when it comes to this type of technology, Xingqiu made sure to attempt to contact anyone that can help him verify the condition of the equipment found inside. Look, daddy gave him access to some money that the man was willing to sink into his son's failing business. ]
Thank you, for accepting to meet me here. As we agreed once the job is done, you'll receive your payment.
— c. ( substory three: DRIFTER GRIFTER ) open to all
[ There is a single objective in mind, his steps don't waver as he seems to be certain of where he is heading. Already tipped off about where that straggler might be found Xingqiu plans to confront the conman and get everyone's money back. Most especially, someone, he knows. Really, how many people have been fooled? Anyway, if words don't work then he'll find another solution to the problem... ]
— d. ( substory four: DOGGED THE BOUNTY HUNTERS ) open to all
[ No matter the orders, or what objectives have been entailed for alliance members to follow through with, Xingqiu opts to ignore everything. Seriously, is this going to get out of hand again? Rather than directly participate in the search for clues or searching for the elusive criminal Xingqiu decides to help. That is he will provide help to anyone he finds in a spot of trouble no matter what faction they belong to.
If someone is hurt, he will tend to them, if they need guidance getting to any location he will provide that information but nothing too detailed. He isn't all that involved. The most he can do is heal injuries, provide refreshments, and maybe even a snack. ]
There you go. That wasn't too bad now, was it?
Although there isn't much I can do about keeping you dry.
[ Yeah. About him providing healing... well expect that his hydro abilities come with the added bonus of leaving anyone he tends to all wet. ]
[She's sputtering, and steam is rising off of her. The heck bro? If it was just fixing up her few scrapes and bumps then she would just give a hesitant thanks and make note of it for the future.
And then promptly try to squirrel her way out of whatever kickbacks she feels she might owe. Now?
[ Witnessing her reaction, he considers warning the next person he provides aid to but it is an avoidable part of him using his skill. What is a cause for surprise is that other visible effect after his hydro abilities make contact, that's unexpected but it isn't quite the same as the elemental reactions he has witnessed in Teyvat. Finding no need to mention that he offers her a smile.
The only thing she can feel content in is the fact that he too seems to have gotten soaked. Also, all scratches, bumps, and cuts are gone. Just like that, she is as good as new, even if she now has to dry off a bit.
Not to worry. Nothing stays wet long. ]
As much as I would also like to avoid getting wet myself, this is just a part of my abilities. Don't worry, you'll dry quickly. Besides, it's not too bad. Or maybe I'm just used to it.
[Such cold logic and observations! Could he secretly be an oni himself!? Kuu.... very well then! She will just have to "deal" with it. Except not really cause there's still a hint of wine in her voice.
Girl gonna complain when she's got somethin' to complain about.]
Says the one that's not soaked to the bone right now! Tch, if I was some human I would probably get sick or something.
[That's a thing that happens, right? They get a little cold and catch their death? She wouldn't be surprised with how weak and sensitive they are.]
Come now, people don't get sick just because they're a little wet. It takes a bit more than that. How about traversing through a frigid wilderness? Now that is more likely to lead to illness.
[ Probably. There are those with weak constitutions that even a breeze can bring forth disease. But people aren't all the same. Some are more robust than others. As for him, he isn't sure where he would situate himself on that scale. Certainly, if he measures only by the standards of his homeland then he would be considered hardy but here? Well, who truly knows?
Although he won't argue the point with an oni that views him as a weak boy with little meat on his bones. ]
But back to the topic of your injuries. Are you feeling better?
[Her voice and supporting look says she doubts that. Then again there are a few exceptional humans out there, she guesses. Even if she considers them to be the minority. Meh, it didn't really matter right now, did it? She turns up the heat of her flames to steam dry herself.
At least she wouldn't be wet for very long. Silly human, and his silly water magics.]
Mrgh... they're fine, I guess. I don't really feel anything now.
[Beyond, you know, the obvious. And the whole wet feeling was quickly dissipating.]
[ Doubt is met with patience reflected in a soft smile, though he has no doubts that she is likely far older than him her expressions and mannerisms are that of a child, mostly. Although he won't patronize her by treating her like one, he knows there is a thin line here and he cannot cross it. Aware of her strength since their encounter in the underground tunnels, he treats her with enough respect but equal amiability that he doesn't keep her at arm's length. Perhaps that will prove to be a mistake in the future? He hopes not.
For now, having healed her of those small injuries, he straightens up while stretching his arms as he watches the kindling flame, followed by steam rolling off her body. Well, good thing that didn't have any sort of adverse effects. Although he does reach towards her, not to touch the flames, but feel the heat coming off of her. He isn't a heathen that would do something obviously dangerous. ]
Nothing at all?
[ It's a question prompted by real concern, although it isn't lost on him that perhaps drenched clothes are something that can be completely uncomfortable for anyone not used to being soaked. ]
[At least she isn't completely made of fire! Gosh, darn mage-man! Tch, now what was he doing, moving his hand that close to her? Grr... if he got any closer he might end... t-t-t-touching her!
Tch, well she'll allow since he did help her out and all that. But don't think she isn't watching him very closely!]
What? Besides my soaking clothes and the fading sting of the cuts?
[She don't get the concern. Or why people seemed to be concerned about her lately either!]

WILDCARD ;
a little gay wildcard
He had checked earlier. While most of the event had been cleaned up, there are still plenty of pillows and futons around to play with. ]
Are you done with the Sutoku welcome event?
[ He ends a pin along with that message; Xingqiu's phone will give a little bing as the mark appears on the mobile map to show Chongyun's location. ]
Want to do something fun?
no subject
Oh! It was Chongyun! And maybe now he feels a bit remorseful that he didn't check his messages earlier. ]
We were working.
What were you guys doing?
no subject
It's a surprise. Will you come to the place I marked and see in person? I think you might like it. How about it? Join me?
no subject
I noted the marked location. Then you're not home yet?
I suppose I can head over there but I can't promise you that I would make for great company at the moment. Also, I smell. And I'm sticky.
no subject
And I always like your company.
no subject
All he knows is that he doesn't want to become any more smelly and sticky.
Perhaps this is some form of retribution? Which only prompts him to be wary until he reminds himself he is communicating with Chongyun. He knows what the exorcist is waiting for: A positive response from him. He doesn't readily give it. Despite having gotten to his feet, a nice warm shower and bed are calling him. ]
I'll be there promptly.
no subject
no subject
Grossery Gang - E
That said, as she looked at the mugs, she stared at the mysterious liquid before looking back at Xingqiu.]
That depends. Are you willing to drink with me?
no subject
That slowly causes a smile to form on his face, even if it is marked by weariness. Perhaps, once in a while, for a cause that he sees merit in, Xingqiu does give his best effort. This time, not wanting to burden new recruits with such a heavy workload he had made his way to the warehouse. ]
I have no fear. Not of what's contained within these mugs anyway.
no subject
However, the last thing she wanted was for the both of them to drink on the job. Instead?]
Then is that a yes or a no? You're not giving me a straightforward answer.
[She said before narrowing her eyes at said liquid. She wanted to believe her alcohol tolerance had gotten slightly better and yet...? She couldn't hide her own disappointment that she may or may not be able to handle it.]
no subject
There is water available.
no subject
Maybe just a little.
no subject
I can't say my tolerance has changed.
no subject
Right now, as she felt her face flaring up a little from a sip, a slight frown was seen.]
I'm afraid so, how silly of me. I suppose this is what happens when one is growing older as they feel the need to drink to drown the hardships of life!
[Was she joking or was she being playful? That was up to Xingqiu to decide. But as of right now? All she could do was narrate to herself a small little poem before tapping the tip of her finger against the cup.]
Let's see, how did that poem go again? I do believe it goes something like this...!
[With that, she cleared her throat.]
The hundred rivers flow east towards the sea,
When will they come back to the west again?
If the young and vigorous do not work hard,
In old age, they will be sorry in vain.
no subject
She grieves that go-between refuse to help her,
for who would fall for homely skills and honesty?
Frugal dress and simple make-up gather only pity.
She can boast of agile fingers, clever with a needle,
but can’t compete with painting comely eyebrows.
More desperate every year, she embroiders golden thread
on bridal gowns for other girls to wear.
no subject
[Not that she meant it, she wanted to see what his reaction would be.]
drinks!
no subject
So if you feel just about done then that's fine, you can go ahead and go, Kou.
no subject
Hmm, really? There's nothing compelling us to stick around?
[ Interesting. ]
Are the Sutoku really that casual about it?
no subject
No.
My own experience is due to attempting to remain in the background, that gives me a bit of leeway.
no subject
[ He shrugs and takes a little sip. ]
Even if it's for money... I don't know. It's not that interesting of a job, you know?
no subject
And there are no Sunsettias here.
no subject
[ He takes a slow sip, considering. ]
So... there are things I won't do. Or I'll oppose. No matter what the contract says.
no subject
[ While he may not speak of his own principles, swiftly agreeing with Kou's sentiments is indicative of his own leanings. His code is simple: Be good, and do good. Within this city, there are difficulties. People are divided into factions that at times are at odds with one another. Inaction is probably the safest route not to cause harm but that isn't his style either.
While he may not get deeply involved, he does what little he can when he is aware that a direct positive result is attainable. So maybe that just means helping little older ladies cross the street... ]
Contribute in whatever way you can, what's the use in becoming a different, lesser person.
no subject
[ He shrugs. ]
It's nice of you to say that, though.
