(mikey was far from wealthy before he winded up here. the dojo his grandfather owned, and where he lived, wasn't crowded or insanely popular, nothing but regular and common. he was comfortable, and money and education had never really been big in his mind. his routine had been simple till then - wake up at lunch time, but only because draken would force him out of bed, and he'd eat at school, where all classes were lullabies to recharge his energies to. afternoons and nights were reserved for tokyo manji business, bike riding, hanging out, and alone time. screw grades, really - it wasn't really like he needed a degree to do what he truly set his mind into doing. the manji had always been mikey's priority, and the new era he wanted to create for them required care, attention, focus. as it grew and grew, it was harder to pay attention to anything else, and that includes himself.

here, however, it's a different story. the manji shrunk, founding members and takemichi now became his world once again, and the last meeting he held was a relief. they're still his, after all. it's common toman knowledge that having mikey made them untouchable, and invincible, as the name mikey has earned in the streets. "tokyo manji belongs to me, and anyone who's behind me will never lose", it's what he's promised again and again. he has to take care of them, lead them, provide for them.

here, however, the financial responsibility hits him harder. some of them are older than he remembers, but none of that matters. his position remains, and thus, it's only fair that he busts his ass to be able to get them a level of comfort and stability.

... but did it have to be so boring? he's here, bodyguarding the shop, toman jacket draped over his shoulders as it has always been, even if he is adhering to that stupid dress code that shuten enforces. that already is a warning, but fuck, it's tedious work. his hand drags across his face as he looks around for any shady individuals who might be lurking, waiting for him to move his post, and his lifeless eyes roll as he sits on the floor, a lollipop swirling in his mouth as he sighs.

please, something, dear lord.)

(he was just here. mikey saw him through the windows of this cafe scamming yet another soul, albeit with some difficulty, because who fucking said the windows had to be so tall? he just didn't know that the cue for the man to disappear into thin air was the bathroom, so instead of being pissy, he sees it as an opportunity. he's been to this shop before, it's been easily his favorite from all he had seen, there's just no way a man that size could pass through the smallest window they have in there.

although his intuition does tell him something's off. it's his cue to enter, decided steps towards the lost soul who just lost their money to the ghost, and he sits at their table, eyes never leaving the restroom.)

When he's back, I'm making him unconscious. Don't make a scene, ok?

(the rumours said they'd be here, so mikey's here. he should have brought toman, but it was late, his phone was off (whether because it was out of battery or because he accidentally turned it off trying to lower the volume and then put it in his pocket to seal the deal is a mystery to us all), and this opportunity was too good to pass up.

so, he's just waiting behind a tree to where his info points the bounty hunters to meet. some sort of trade-off, bribes amongst themselves.

(mikey's a very tired person, and on top of that, his sleep cycle is directly connected to his stomach. should his stomach be full, his brain connects it with a necessity to nap. should he wake up, he already struggles with the need to eat.

right now, however, we're at the beginning of the cycle. an omelet, rice, meat, and mikey's sleeptalking on the bench he sleeps at, cute but loud snores echoing and pulling attention to him... and he doesn't even notice.)

(everyone breathes the same air, and nostalgia pulls at his heart, even if it hasn't been so long since the founding members (almost) all met. it's only been a couple of years, but toman being this small again feels absurdly intimate, he can't help but to feel a little static. it's almost like rebuilding, in a little way, and the addition of takemichi only makes things better.

the meeting is longer than most, and the subject is much more complex than whether they should or should not kick the shit out of someone, but instead of their current living possibilities. like mikey had said before, this is a new land, new rules, and there are people who possess power far from their capabilities - for now, anyway. they must be able to reach each other and specially deus ex-machina (mikey) at a moment's notice.

and then, there's the subject of kazutora to solve. not that he has time to even open that can of worms before he hears the bat dragging on the ground, his eyes glassy as he looks at the intruder.)

[That something is neither shady nor lurking. Kim is a familiar (though not necessarily welcome) face, wrapped in a coat, her purse over one shoulder. The Enma pin glints on her lapel. She stops at the door, and when her gaze falls on him, her expression grows serious. Calm, but serious.]

What are you doing here?

Oh. It's you. Of course, you'd be Enma.

(unsurprisingly so. he didn't even have to think too much about that one, kim smells like a narc from a continent away. the posture, the words, the way she carries herself.)

Technically working. If you're here to deal with the thieves, you should tell me what should I wear to your funeral while you can.

(or not, but you know. he's still kinda mad at her.)

[Kim nods, stepping around him to get inside. What a world this is, with a guard who couldn't possibly be out of his teens.]

I'm just here to pick up something for my husband. If the thieves show up, you can kick them in the head or something.

Wow, you have a husband? Who wins the marital discussions?

[The only thing that keeps Kim from rolling her eyes is the absurdity of having an ongoing conflict with a teenager. It doesn't spare her from barbs getting under her skin, but dignity makes her feel better.]

Is this what you do with your time? Sit around, picking fights?

[She moves to step around him.]

Usually, the fights come to me. In your case, you started it. You could definitely have fucking kept it down, you know. Inconsiderate. Ain't you a lawyer?

(not that he knows for sure, but look at her. the way she spoke to the owners of that poor cat shop. doesn't take a genius.)

[Izuku looks down at his wallet. His very empty wallet. And he sighs deeply.]

I think I might've gotten scammed...

[A little fly warbles its way out of his wallet before he folds it again and sighs twice more. It seems that the figure in black that has been stumbling through the city with supposed information on Iron Bear has gotten to Izuku too. He's one of the lost souls who willingly gave all his money to the man in hopes to help him out and get any information he could. How could Izuku be so gullible? He can't even buy a hamburger now!

But the person who joins about his plight makes a very alarming note.]

Wait-?! What do you mean, you're going to attack him?

I raised my voice.

[A thing that feels embarrassing in hindsight, but not exactly regrettable; the enormity of the situation, and of being here alone, hasn't quite faded yet. The correction feels important.]

That's not a fight. That makes inconsiderate relative, in my books.

[There is absolutely nothing preventing him from killing her. Anyone here could. She would barely be able to put up a fight, same as before. It's just her and her mouth. Jimmy's presence is a comfort, but neither of them can offer each other anything in the way of protection.

She doesn't want to answer that question, but she can't breeze by it again.]

(meanwhile, mikey has to recenter, to force himself out of destruction, and to force himself in all the same. a struggle that he had met at home, and undoubtedly continues here... and will occur sooner than later.

[She contemplates whether to entertain this or just leave this kid to his business, but she settles in with a hand on her hip.]

At home, I'm a public defender. There's no charge to my clients, as costs are paid by the government. Why?

Japan has its own right-to-counsel articles. Whether the counsel they provide is effective, I don't know, but I like my job. Even if the system is broken, I do actual good for people.

[Kim watches him for a beat. Any fifteen year old that knows jack shit about the legal system is probably one that's been through it, but she could have guessed that by his rough and tumble attitude alone. That makes brushes with the law just a matter of time.]

let him just have this. like he's pulling some strength from the black dragon's leader, the scent bringing him home and anchoring him to that state of mind, like he can give him wisdom in this place. he'll be done and he'll trash the butt before majima comes, a dorayaki now being munched on to mask the smell.)

(is the west like that? movies mostly show delinquency in its older, more mature stages. he can't imagine - and well, considering his face and his height... she might be thinking he's younger.
