[Really, Fukuda wasn't really looking to get a dog. He keeps weird hours and lives in a small apartment and that doesn't feel conducive to a canine companion.

But he was surprised to see a dog shelter here, and he was curious. Besides, he certainly likes dogs and figured having a little peek couldn't hurt. And then he just happens upon his cool friend!! How fortuitous.

Tail wagging, he starts trotting down to Izou.]
Ah, Izou-san! Your kind side is sh-
[He's interrupted by several dogs going nuts barking as he hoves into view.]

[ Izō grimaces at both the noise and Fukuda. It's not like he doesn't like Fukuda, more that Izō thinks of him like a rash that won't go away: you get used to seeing it so it becomes familiar, like an annoying friend. ]

Oi, shut it! [ He knows yelling at the dogs won't help, but they generally listen to him. ] He's with me, so quit it.

[ Oddly, that actually seems to work. There's a few stray growls and delayed barks, but the dogs quiet down. ]

An' whatever ya were sayin', fuckin' shut it. I jus' work here.

[He'll be more than happy to be an annoying friend because it still means he gets to be a friend!!! Fukuda's own tail had gone between his legs when they all started barking at him, but it relaxes a little when they quiet down.]

Well sure, but I think anyone who gives their time working with animals has to be nice deep down, you know? Especially since they all like you.

[ He says in between shushing the dogs and trying to get them to settle down again. ]

...Strays jus' gotta look out for each other, y'know.

[ That is an extremely vulnerable admission. Izō can't look at Fukuda as he says it, mostly because he's blushing. Maybe he does have a soft core underneath all the defensive layers.

Just stop saying it out loud! ]

[Izou you can't just go and say cute sweet shit like that?? If you want Fukuda to NOT be endeared??]

Aah. I grew up in a group home, and it was sort of like that when I was really little. At home the other kids weren't... especially kind to me, but at school, if anyone else tried to pick on me they'd intervene.
[He was a weird little dweeb but here was THEIR little dweeb. He trails off in a way that suggests there was a "but," but he decides not to voice it. As much as he and Izou are very different people, he also doesn't actually like being percieved as he Truly Is either. So he doesn't say how when he got older, and thus his strange behavior became more noticeable and intolerable, people stuck up for him less and less.]

... It's a nice way of thinking.
[He'll say that rather than any direct assessment of Izou.]

...Spent time on th' run. Only company I had were strays.

[ There. He said something. He opened himself up the tiniest bit. The dogs have settled down for the most part, with one or two still growling at Fukuda just a little bit. ]

Guess yer jus' another stray, huh?

[Fukuda doesn't expect anyone to like him so he's like.. might as well apply to dogs too!!]

That's right. Once I was legally an adult I was out on my own. But I'm not a fighter like you, so pretty much I just kept to myself as much as possible.
