Who ⬤ Soo Won and you What ⬤ (late) Tanabata event and general catch all for August and September When ⬤ Tanabata and onwards Where ⬤ all over Content Warnings ⬤ none yet but I'll put warnings in the specific headers if need be
[Soo Won was clueless about romance so he couldn’t offer that kind of service but he could make his clients feel special with his silver words and radiant smile alone. His charm was warm and inviting and he also seemed right at home in the luxurious environment, which given that he was secretly a king wasn’t surprising. Although if anyone asked him about it, he would wave the question aside by saying he just has a way with people. After all, merchants needed people skills as much as kings.
Due to his natural charm, Soo Won was often paired with the less experienced lost souls where he could be a reassuring teammate and a bright light to overshadow any slip ups. Soo Won enjoyed working with others and he greeted his latest partner with a friendly smile.]
I look forward to working with you. I’m Soo Won.
Musician in Red
[Soo Won wasn’t the only one working tonight. Miyako wanted to contribute as well. She refused to live off Soo Won completely. It was her life too now and surprisingly thanks to him, she had a special slice that was hers alone. When Soo Won finished with his last client, he slipped into one of the unused rooms to don their disguise.
Soo Won didn’t want Miyako’s music to be tied to him like everything else so he created the musician in red, a masked musician in a red kimono who vanished after every performance in order to keep their secret. He even created the disguise with Miyako’s appearance in mind and he hid his fair hair behind a long black wig before putting on the last touch for their illusion, the mask. It had a spiderweb design with an entangled orange butterfly over the right eye hole which was still intact. The sea green eye that peeked out from the broken side was the only hint of Soo Won that he couldn’t hide. Soo Won suggested hiding it with her hair but Miyako didn’t want to hide her face. When she had a body of her own, she hid half of her face so no one would see her ugly scar and she didn’t want that reminder. There were plenty of people with green eyes so it shouldn’t be a problem.
With the disguise complete, Miyako headed for the stage. Soo Won had timed it perfectly so there wasn’t enough time for anyone to try to approach her before the performance. She played a traditional shamisen melody. Miyako tends to stay quiet when she was with Soo Won, with only some of her thoughts trickling out as music, but with the musician in red disguise she could be herself and her hidden passion rang out as she got lost in her music.
As soon as the performance ended, she fled without a word, following the path Soo Won chose with the least amount of foot traffic for her escape.]
Tanabata (cw: Akatsuki no yona spoilers)
[Soo Won stared at the blank talisman in his hands with an unreadable expression. It seemed that even in this world people turned to the gods to grant their wishes. His thoughts turned to his mother whose wish was never answered, like so many others. He leaned his head back against a tree with a sigh as a sharp headache resonated with his thoughts. He wasn’t like them. He didn’t want anything from the gods. Hak and Yona’s faces shone through the pain as the magic in the air tugged at his longing and Soo Won’s grip on the talisman tightened. Not even that.]
Yin, do you want it?
[Miyako wasn’t sure how to answer him. Sometimes it was hard to separate herself from Soo Won and his hidden resentment echoed throughout her own memories. The gods hadn’t been kind to her either, although, unlike Soo Won, she blamed humans more. There were times when she hated how Soo Won’s love for humanity reminded her of her naive younger self, and yet she couldn’t help but long for that foolish world that was now forever out of her reach.]
We know who you are (cw: Akatsuki no Yona spoilers)
[Soo Won was immediately curious about this Iron Bear but his thoughts were ripped away from him when Miyako stirred at the sight of Ringo being dragged away. Her concern blended with Soo Won’s memory of Yona being kidnapped when they were young, and it was hard to tell which one of them was in control when they chased after the kidnappers. Their chase was cut short when a sharp pain shot through Soo Won’s head. His vision blurred and he was knocked to the ground in the chaos. Miyako pushed Soo Won to get back up with an urgent mess of notes. She even tried to wrestle control from him until his quiet whisper made her stop.]
Yin, stop…Please.
[Yin relented with a reluctant sharp note, followed by a quieter concerned melody as she watched Soo Won try to stand.
Soo Won couldn’t think about Miyako’s concern right now. He had to get up. No one could see him like this, but his body felt like lead and his vision swam with the pain. He can overcome this, and he sent Miyako a silent warning not to call for help.
A quiet stifled annoyed note echoed throughout the chaos at Soo Won’s request but Miyako stayed quiet for now and frantically looked around, hoping someone would notice her stubborn idiot.]
[Alas, a smooth escape was not so easy of an endeavor if one was specifically looking for and keeping an eye on the one trying to escape.
Truthfully it was Gojyo who had first spotted the show and chosen to come in. He was a young man doing his best to enjoy the fun of the night's festivities, innocent or otherwise. But when the masked figure came in, and the music came on, Unabara could immediately recognize it.
And so, as the show faded and the mysterious musician decided to fade into the night, Unabara chose to take some rare liberties over her vessel.
It was nice having gained some of her hanyou shell's capabilities. He had used so much of hers when they were surviving in Hakagemachi, and it was only fair that she did much the same. The enhanced strength and speed make it easy to keep up with her friend.
With little effort, she cut Miyako off in her escape through the allies with a soft smile and a playful wave.]
My, my, such a rush today. Do not tell me you have other places to be already.
[Miyako's startled note of surprise as Unabara cut her off flowed into a more relaxed melody of relief at her friend's voice. Unabara? Honesty Miyako would love to stay and bask in the praise she deserved from her spectacular performance but it was too risky. What made her secret life as the musician in red so precious was that it wasn't tied to Soo Won and she didn't want to ruin that.
It was different with Unabara though. She didn't have to hide the truth from her. Even Gojyo would recognize Miyako's mask from all the times Soo Won used her powers in Hakagemachi. Finally she could share her music with someone again, just like old times, and happiness wove into Miyako's lightly chiding song as she grabbed Unabara's hand and pulled her around the corner as someone walked by.
Yes she was in a rush to be somewhere. She still needed to stash her shamisen and change out of her costume before anyone saw her.]
[There was something about the sweet response of the song that had managed to almost immediately liven Unabara's mood. Her pulse quickened as she felt the rambunctious young spider grab her hand.
It felt like they were up to no good, running through the allies.
The thought could only make Unabara giggle out slightly with the thrill of it. Really, when was the last time she had behaved in such a way? Had she ever?
But she still followed along willingly, allowing Miyako to take her as she pleased. A sweet smile stained the redhead's usually rough features.]
[Unabara's giggle as they ran away was contagious. It made Miyako feel like a rebellious youth again. She wasn't sure she had ever done something like this with Unabara before and she suddenly felt giddy, like they were partners in crime. She joined in her friend's surprising giggle with a musical chuckle of her own before she quickly stifled it with a lightly scolding note. Part of hiding was being quiet Unabara!
Their escape led them to the back door of the Palace of Sai. Once they were inside, Miyako reluctantly let go of Unabara's hand and pressed a finger to the lips of her mask with some stifled giddy notes before slipping into the changing room with the blue door where Soo Won stashed their clothes.
Unabara didn't have to wait long for Miyako to reemerge from the room, wearing a light blue yukata. Her masked face was replaced with Soo Won's, which lit up with a bright smile as Miyako properly greeted Unabara.]
