I. Restaurant hunting | Edges of Tamamo territory
[Or maybe more accurately, he's looking at several of the buildings in the area. He's not quite ready to buy or rent property and start a shop, but it's good to know what's around the Tamamo area. He's avoiding places that are extremely expensive and spending more time around the corners of the district, bordering between the other faction areas.
He has a notebook out and writing up notes about the areas, even if it's not about specific buildings.]
II. Mr. Libido | Tamamo
[Sometimes you end up with leadership positions you weren't really looking for! Here he is with his one star and one star responsibilities and he's staring down this man dancing in front of a restaurant.]
If you ain't gonna leave, I'll make you.
[Which is a weird threat from somebody who's wielding a butter knife, a fork and a spoon. The threat remains.]
III. Who says no to free food?
A | Your apartment
[Has Nero said he was going to cook for you?
If he said he was going to cook for you, he's shown up at your door with a grocery bag of ingredients and the intent to cook. You wouldn't turn him away would you? ]
You're not busy, right?
B | Tamamo Apartments
[If he hasn't specifically told you he was going to cook for you, he's still living in the starter Tamamo apartments for now. Figuring he has to do something for his fellow Tamamos, he's left his door open and is inviting people in to grab a meal in the morning. There's a full spread of warm scrambled eggs, freshly baked bread, sausage and bacon and several pitchers of juices. There are also some bowls of fresh fruit, if you'd rather have that.
No milk, no matter where you look.]
You should eat somethin' in the morning.

You should eat somethin' in the morning.

The bed is also fine. It's even a step up.]
Hmm, only if your offerin' to be ordered around.
[In the kitchen? In the bedroom? Both?]
I'm in my element in the kitchen.
no subject
[ barton thinks on that, drawing back closer to the kitchen to idly observe nero's cooking prowess from afar. his tone remains even, contemplative; it seems like he's taking this hypothetical pretty seriously...: ]
I can recognize when I don't have the expertise to lead. I'm not gonna hamper our efficiency by insisting on it.
When'd you learn how to cook?
no subject
Our efficiency, huh?
I learned when I was still a kid. [A good meal is almost as good as medicine. At least for a wizard.]
no subject
Ohh? [ he's pretty benignly invoking some idle chatter, here. it does strike him that he doesn't know too much about nero's home world, or much about how his life had been before jigoku. ] Your parents teach you, or—?
no subject
[There's a small hum, as he considers how much he wants to say. He does like Barton...]
Nah, I ran away from 'em and figured it out on my own.
[He watches the shrimp cook up, as he says it off hand. It's been a six centuries since then. Time doesn't heal all wounds, but it does make them distant.]
no subject
he figures that he doesn't really need to ask why he'd run away if nero doesn't offer elaboration on his own; he's sure that some parents are just shit. his tone shifting to something more impressed, ]
That's pretty amazing, teaching yourself like that.
no subject
[ It's not something he tends to dwell on often. Living for centuries means the first things that fade are the things he barely experienced in the first place. ]
It's one of those things where you either figure it out or you die.
[ Or maybe not, but Nero grew up in the cold, frozen tundra of Northern country. That's a place somebody has to learn to survive and learn fast. ]
Food's done. Where d'ya keep your plates?
no subject
[ it's been a while since barton's had shellfish, despite the comparable abundance of it within the city; he's excited for it. he takes the initiative to fetch nero two plates from a cupboard near to the stove, and grabs a set of silverware to retreat towards the makeshift dining area. ]
[ table, set! he doesn't really... care where he sits, but decides that his bed is the comfier of options, so opts for taking the stiff armchair. ]
no subject
He'll plate them straight from the pan and settle on the bed. The last time he was here... Well. That's not why he's here today.]
Eat up. Hope ya like 'em.
[They're delicious garlic shrimp, who could say no?]
no subject
[ he stabs one of the shrimps with a fork and eats it whole, tail and all. cronch. his expression lights up, and he has to actively put in effort to remember to finish chewing before piping up again. ]
It's delicious!!
no subject
'Course it is. They're my favorites. They don't take too long to make either.
[ Satisfied with Barton's approval of the dish, Nero digs into his own plate. ]
no subject
[ he is reluctantly impressed in that respect. spearing another one, ]
Anyway, thanks for this. [ coupled with a warmer smile. it really is a treat! ]
no subject
[His own smile goes warm for a moment, before he manages to collect himself. This is a different person in a different moment.]
no subject
I like good food as much as the next person! [ granted, there's so much more to cooking than just the end result; he's missing that. ] But the simple stuff works just as well, I can't spend however long putting together something fancy!
no subject
[ He gives an amused half smile. Some people don't have the patience for cooking. Better for him, he supposes. He's part of a customer base. ]
Come by my shop once I open.
no subject
What's it gonna be...? [ that does sound precisely like a tamamo thing. ] Some fancy five-star restaurant, or something?
no subject
[The long lasting impact of being a bandit, preferring the foods he could actually get his hands on.]
no subject
Ah, we can agree on that! [ wearing a broad grin that stretches from ear to ear. compelled to cheers, it occurs to him that he hadn't offered nero anything to drink... not that he really has any tasty beverages anything besides water and protein shakes. ] So long as it won't break the bank.
[ not that his bank isn't already broken. ]
I think even an pro like you would be impressed with how innovative some Illuminans can get with our canned goods.
no subject
Haha, I'd be pretty interested. We don't have a lotta canned stuff back home, so I don't have anything to compare to.
[They don't have the process of canning, but there's a lot of cured food for the winter.]
no subject
[ prepare to likely be disappointed by, uh, the alleged prowess of canned goods. barton pops another shrimp into his mouth, chewing despite his excitement for the topic of canneries, etc. but the following is a gamble of question, ]
How's the technology, where you're from?
no subject
... We have guns.
[It only comes to mind because they're Bradley's favored weapons.]
