I. Restaurant hunting | Edges of Tamamo territory

[Or maybe more accurately, he's looking at several of the buildings in the area. He's not quite ready to buy or rent property and start a shop, but it's good to know what's around the Tamamo area. He's avoiding places that are extremely expensive and spending more time around the corners of the district, bordering between the other faction areas.

He has a notebook out and writing up notes about the areas, even if it's not about specific buildings.]

II. Mr. Libido | Tamamo

[Sometimes you end up with leadership positions you weren't really looking for! Here he is with his one star and one star responsibilities and he's staring down this man dancing in front of a restaurant.]

If you ain't gonna leave, I'll make you.

[Which is a weird threat from somebody who's wielding a butter knife, a fork and a spoon. The threat remains.]

III. Who says no to free food?

A | Your apartment

[Has Nero said he was going to cook for you?

If he said he was going to cook for you, he's shown up at your door with a grocery bag of ingredients and the intent to cook. You wouldn't turn him away would you? ]

You're not busy, right?

B | Tamamo Apartments
[If he hasn't specifically told you he was going to cook for you, he's still living in the starter Tamamo apartments for now. Figuring he has to do something for his fellow Tamamos, he's left his door open and is inviting people in to grab a meal in the morning. There's a full spread of warm scrambled eggs, freshly baked bread, sausage and bacon and several pitchers of juices. There are also some bowls of fresh fruit, if you'd rather have that.

No milk, no matter where you look.]

You should eat somethin' in the morning.

Oh! Really?

[ his eyes sparkle. yes, any opportunity to learn something is important to him--- maybe a little more compared to a random person. robin, who has an eternity and then some, needs to keep himself busy. ]

It might be nice just because I can use it at my job. [ he slides some of the eggs onto his fork and sticks it into his mouth, chewing thoughtfully. ] I could surprise Mister Shylock with some kind of neat drink that has a food component, too...?

[Shylock has been in the city longer than Nero has, and it shouldn't be a surprise to hear his name. And yet he's still like "Huh, he's out there hiring people?"]

You work at his bar, huh? How's he as a boss?

Yeah! He hired to me to mix non-alcoholic drinks for patrons that want them. They keep coming back, so I guess I'm doing a good job!

[ and it's not because of robin being a pretty cute and innocent looking boyo. ]

I like him. He's very kind... very patient. I'm glad he doesn't mind that I'm not human, too.

[ chews on bread... ]

[It might have a little to do with how cute and innocent looking he is.]

Huh, I wouldn't have guessed. Shylock's nice. [love talks notwithstanding.] As far as bosses go, he's a good pick.

This bread is so... soft! And flavorful! I definitely want to know how you do it...

[ it's probably something really simple but expertly done. ]

... but can you tell me how you know him? He gets along with a lot of people, so...

It's about how much you mix it. You have to mix it together or else it won't be bread, but if you mix it too much, it becomes hard.

Huh? [That's right, it's uncommon knowledge.] Oh... Yeah. We're from the same world.

... overmixing is bad... hey, that's kind of the same as baking cake. I think. I guess cake is bread, huh.

[ and then he gasps in surprise! ]

Really? So you do know Mister Shylock?! Oh, does that make you...

[ this is when robin begins to chew on the sausage. ]

... a.... um. Sorcerer. No. Warlock? No... lizard....?

Cake is made out of batter, but it's usually softer and sweeter than most breads.

[A... lizard? A lizard???]

Sounds like you meant "Wizard".

I was close!

[ and now he's onto some fruit. something sweet to brighten his palate. ]

Yeah. Wizard! So you are one?

[ robin forks a slice of banana and nibbles on it. ]

[ Lizard... He's never been asked if he was a lizard before. ]

Did he talk about me or something?

Nope! Mister Shylock is... he's kind of mysterious, you know? He doesn't like to share too much. He's really good at getting others to talk.

[ or, in robin's case? robin just likes chatting. ]

I just figure maybe all wizards are nice! Or something! I'm probably silly assuming that though...

[Oh good.]

Eh, they're about the same as anybody you'd talk to. Some of 'em are nice and some of 'em you'd rather not meet.

And where would you put yourself, mister...?

[ robin's mostly finished with this breakfast. there's still so much left, too. he'll have to make sure the other tamamo tenants are aware of it all. ]

Just trying to get by, really.

[His desires are simple.]

So you're nice?

[ it's now too late for you, nero. even if you proved to be the worst out of everyone, he wouldn't believe it for a second. ]

It's okay. I won't tell anyone if you are.

[ robin raises a finger up to his lips and giggles.

someone who wants to get by quietly... he respects it even if he can't do it himself. ]

Don't go puttin' words in people's mouths.

[He's not a good person or a good wizard.]

[ robin snickers again, but he understands. as optimistic as he wants to be... ]

There are a lot meaner youkai here, I'm sure.

[ as the smile on his face dims, it's replaced by something thoughtful. ]

But us Tamamo have it pretty good! Our lady is very good at sweeping away those who get in the way... and they don't normally come back. So consider yourself lucky!

[After what he's done to people he cares about, he really can't accept anybody saying that about him.

He looks curiously at Robin when he talks again. Was there trouble he missed? Was somebody in the clan a big troublemaker for her?]

... Somethin' happen before I got here?

Mhm, yeah. I guess a few months ago, there was an assassination... but it was all some kind of ploy to bait out one of the other clan's enemies.

[ robin folds his arms across his chest, hands resting on his elbows. ]

And then the cursed rain. That was awful.

[ he laughs nervously, pursing his lips. ]

Whoever's hell this is, it's certainly not as mean as it could be, but I guess... it still is hell.

[And in a few days there will be a big public kidnapping. He'll think back on this conversation when he watches all of that go down.]

Hell's gotta be unpleasant most of the time. 's weird I don't feel tortured every wakin' moment, but we're here on contract. Might be a little different for us.

[He doesn't think he's dead, for example. Even if this is supposed to be where dead souls go.]

Did that assassination thing get resolved?

Um..... in a way, it did.

[ robin's face scrunches up. the memories that the assault did on so many innocent lost souls and youkai are still fresh in his mind, and robin makes no attempt to hide his gripping of his once-banged up elbow. ]

The Sutoku took care of it. Whether that same group will return or not... I don't know. I don't like to think about it too much, you know?

[ and he tries to smile. ]

I'm just glad none of my friends got really hurt!

[His gaze settles on Robin's arm and then back up to his face. He supposes some people are more affected by death than others. Nero's a little bit too old and too jaded to be seriously upset when somebody dies in front of him. Centuries do dull those feelings, especially when it comes to complete strangers.]

Glad your friends were safe at the end.

[He can empathize with that bit, at least.]

Yeah... me too.

[ what a strange man nero is. slightly unsettling but overall, robin can't really put a finger on him. he's completely different than shylock. or maybe they're very similar, but the way they approach and think things through...?

robin nods. ]

And then a little time after that, Mister Shylock opened his bar. The one I worked at... the patrons were pretty rude. So, I asked if he needed help. Now I'm there!

[ a beat, then: ]

Can I have your name, too? I'm sorry, I haven't been able to catch up on who's new or not as of late.

[ He doesn't think he's unsettling, he's just a guy. Thank you. ]

I'm Nero, and you're?

[ Sometimes you really let people into your actual apartment without knowing their name. ]

[ 'just a guy' is a pretty rare thing around these parts. in a way, that sort of makes nero stick out! ]

Robin Laffite! It's nice to meet you, Mister Nero!

[ he neatly stacks his dishes and utensils. ]

I bet you could open your own restaurant if you wanted! You could probably become really popular!
