[OOC: This is just a catch all for any stuff I do with Cain in the month of august. So far there is one open prompt featuring a very friendly cat.]

~Nya~ Open/All

Cain was smart enough to know that his stealth cat shouldn't be the same as one he wandered out in public in. And he also knew that Captain Shiki had told him to be discreet-and he didn't want to disappoint her-but he really wanted to practice in the mean time, and what better way to do that then making friends with everyone?

So there was now a very large, very fluffy orange maine coone cat wandering around the streets on the local divisions, chasing down any diversion he saw and rubbing up against various yokai legs. It was much easier to find people in this state, with his sense of smell and willingness to be pet. He had a time limit to work on, so he couldn't do this all the time-plus it left him exhausted-but every other day or so he could stroll the markets.

Fellow Lost Souls were no different-as soon as he scented them, Cain was jumping down from his perch on a couple of boxes to come over and start rubbing up against the person's leg.

[ooc note: anyone who can sense magic or magic abilities will probably be able to tell the cat is magic or at least not a normal cat, but there's no real threat or sense of danger to him otherwise.]

[The problem was this was taking longer than he thought so he was running up against his time limit here. He's not exactly sure how this man would react to that, and while he could easily run away and vanish, Cain didn't want him to think that the cat hated him or anything.

How would he do this?

Well, it wasn't much time for thinking as he now was approaching Skylark's place. He's sniffing at the door, forgetting about his time limit for the moment.]

[ So it did follow him back home. Skylark opens the door, and holds it open to let the cat in if it wants to go. ]

Well, Hizen and Kazuma probably won't mind if I let you stay here for a bit.

[Oh, Hizen lived here? Cain was now even more interested, wanting to know also more about the prickly sword spirit. Kazuma was a new name to him, but whatever. Caution was for not him.

The cat is now boldly trotting in, sniffing at everything he could reach, and climbing up on furniture. It was all going fine honestly, but if Skylark left the room he'd soon hear a crashing sound, followed by a very human male voice saying 'ouch!'

Cain had hit his limit and turned back, knocking over a bit of furniture in the process.

[ It's not a terribly big apartment; Hizen used to be the only one who lived here until he let two newbies stay, after all. He headed to the kitchen to put down the groceries, and he was thinking to himself that maybe he can give a bit of the fish to the cat too, until he heard the noise back in the room. He stops what he's doing to go check and... ]

Mr. Cain? Why are you here?

[ Excuse??? ]

[Well this was awkward. Cain didn't really know how to explain himself out of this one without looking horribly suspicious, so he's just going with his normal defense of being as stupid as possible.]

Uh, you kinda...let me in? As a cat I mean.

[ Oh. Maybe he should have expected this when some of the cats here could turn out to be "youkai".

...Ugh, if Hizen or Kazuma come back home to this, he'll just say he invited Cain to save the two of them any potential trouble. ]

So you can turn into a cat...?

[ Hm. He knows Cain is from a different world entirely, but it's still so weird to actually see this in action. ]

[It was...probably for the best. Cain wasn't anything more that curious and nosy, but some people apparently didn't like that.]

Uh, yeah. All wizards can, actually. I just..got the ability back awhile ago and I've been practicing? By turning into a cat. And it's way easier to get people to touch me when I'm a cat.

[Not to mention all the free food! And the spying. But that was only job related.]

[ ???? This is the first time he's heard about wizards. ]

What's a wizard?

[Oh. He keeps forgetting not everyone is as social as he is or like. telling everyone they are a wizard because they're bad at hiding it. Also he might not have ever met the others...]

Oh, sorry. I don't know if you've met Shylock, or Murr..or Nero? They're wizards too. Where our world is from we can use magic, and that makes us different than normal humans. Among a couple other things too.

I forgot I had a time limit....

[ Lucky you Cain, you're the first wizard Lark's met. He ponders on this, because...that doesn't sound that different from sorcerers, but he sort of gets the sense that "different than normal humans" might be more than he would've initially assumed? ]

I haven't met any of them, but, uhm...if you don't mind me asking, what do you me by "different than normal humans"?

[Don't mind him just climbing up onto one of your seats since he's now pretty drained from his little excursion. He needed a nap.]

Uh, well for one we can use magic. We can also live for a very long time, and turn to stone when we die. Our magic comes from our hearts too, so apparently...it does make us think and act different than humans? But that one I don't know about as much.

[ It's fine Cain. It's not like anyone else is using them right now. ]

So kind of like sorcerers where I'm from [ Turning to stone upon death is new though,,, ], but...only wizards can use magic?

Uh, I guess. I don't know much about sorcerers from other places. But humans can't. They can still get kind of influenced by the spirits and everything, but we're the only ones who can use magic.

[His expression is turning slightly distasteful.]

Of course, some humans are trying anyway. I...I mean I can understand, but the way magic technology is powered and used is just....

[ Oh. Accidentally stumbled on a less pleasant topic. Does he want to ask? Is this something he really needs to know?

Curiosity gets the better of him, though. ]

...I'm guessing it's not great?

[Oh, now he felt bad though. He didn't mean to bring the troubles of wizards on an innocent bystander...but it was just something he could let go of with what happened to Nicholas.]

Ah, no. Sorry, I didn't mean to bring the whole mood down. Besides, it's not something that's even happened yet, just a worry I have.

I mean...it sounds like you're still worried.

[ Skylark doesn't know if talking about it with him will help, but... ]

I mean I am because some of the older wizards have voiced the same concerns. But I don't want to burden you with anything like that. Besides, it's our problem to deal with in our world.

[He's smiling back at Lark, and he seems pretty bright like normal, though people who knew him well could tell he's still distracted.]
