Just like that, ease up on your grip just a bit. Ya wanna hold it like a bird. If your hands are a too tight, you'll kill it and find it hard to move and adjust. If it's too loose, then it'll fly away from ya. You want it firm, but not too firm.

[He looks over the boy's stance for another moment.]

You'll wanna place your feet like mine and body sorta to the side. It'll help keep your weight evenly dispersed and make it more difficult to hit you- don't worry about where to hit to keep from killin' your target. Just focus first. Breath in slow and deep through your nose, and exhale slowly through your mouth.

Get a feel for your weapon, how it molds into your hand, the weight of it an' everythin'. It's important to get to know it and used to it. Otherwise, it won't be much o' any good to you, or anyone else.

No, but you ain't the only one lookin' to learn. Now just ease up a bit more, you're holdin' it right, but you're a little too tense and fightin' it. Part of shooting is relaxing and clearing your head. Think of it like a sorta meditation.

[Gray eyes continue looking over Shinchi's stance for a bit longer before nodding to himself.]

When you feel steady enough, go ahead and load up the gun with the magazine you brought with ya. Also, go ahead and give the back part of magazine, the part where the flat ends of the bullets are, a light tap against your hand, knee, or counter. Gently but firmly, it'll help make certain that they're sitting towards the back and avoid misfeeds.

...Why do ya wanna learn?

Yeah, it can. Which is why you should think of it as meditative. Something to clear your head and focus yourself. If you don't want it to hurt someone, practice. If you want it to help, practice and learn about it. Bein' afraid and lambasting somethin' doesn't help no one. Less so when it's somethin' you intend to use.

Now remember your breathin' and center yourself. You'll want the front sight, the little metal pip towards the barrel to line up perpendicular to the rear sights. It'll help ya with aiming. An' when you fire, you wanna fire between breaths and squeeze the trigger. Don't pull it- pullin' it can cause the weapon to jerk and for you to be off your mark.

[He said, still sounding calm and instructive as before.]

There's plenty of other things ya can use. A gun's one of the more decisive ones, sure. But it ain't the only one that can harm or deter or make things more favorable to ya.

[He hummed.] But it is decisive- the man who taught me made certain I knew that. The moment ya pull it out is the moment you made your decision and there's no going back from it. It's somethin' ya never point at another livin' bein. Unless'n ya intend to use it. An' even then, it's somethin' ya only use when there's no other choice. Never out of anger.

When you, or someone else, is in danger and you need things to be tipped in your favor. Like all weapons, what matters is your intention. That is why you think of it as meditative. An' why it's important to keep a clear head an' conscious.
