( Right. He hadn't actually been inside... But had she known that? Was she able to view the audience through all those lights? Could she memorize faces? Shealtiel gets a little stiff as he tries to work through his thoughts, clearing his throat. )
( Normally, he might have said a rude comment about how it was "okay." Not for lack of enjoyment of the music, really, but just for a distance that's impossible to close for him. But seeing her expression, and having been where he has for the past large amount of time, hanging out with demons and humans...
He nods. )
It was... nice. ( Nice is a good word, right? )
I don't usually get to stop and listen to things like that. ( He turns the book he has in his own hands so he can hold it a little more relaxed. It's a book on law, part 4 of a series, from the looks of it. )
Do you perform there often? I'm surprised no one's brought it up before.
( Somehow, the idea of stopping in to watch a human perform still makes him want to shudder. He doesn't, but the awkwardness on his face is difficult to hide. It can probably just be taken as him being socially awkward, though. )
I'm pretty new, so I haven't really gotten used to where everything is... I've just been looking around to see what I could gather.
( And she was pretty much the only thing of note so far, he supposes? )
I'll keep that in mind, though. My name is Shealtiel... I didn't catch your name when you were performing since I came through part way.
[it's not going to be forced on him, if he's shy, which is how she takes it. it's always going to be there, when he feels brave enough.]
Emily. It's a pleasure, really - I'm glad we could reconnect.
[she had left directly after her set, anyway.]
I realize this is a bit forward, but I've been here for over four months now, so if you have any burning questions on how to find things, or things that weren't explained, I can assist a little bit with that.
( Four months. In the span of his life, that's like nothing, but in a place like this, even he can feel like that's a lifetime. It's... strange. Different. Uncomfortable, a little too much like a cross between what he imagines Inferno to be and the human world, and definitely too easy to settle into. Somehow. )
I might take you up on that, Emily. I don't even know where to start asking things yet, so I've just been reading every book I can get my hands on.
( That's how he's learned a lot of everything in general, so. He glances down at the book in his own hands again, idly thumbing at the corner of the cover. )
( Even if she had been, he probably wouldn't have recognized it just yet. He has no idea what is what around here. It's kind of overwhelming. At the same time, the faction he was placed into feels a lot like Paradiso... )
Yeah. The Department of the Enma. ( He's not sure what sort of reaction to expect. He does know that there was some sort of commotion about them earlier, but... )
Enma...I'm not as deeply familiar with those brought into the Department, but I know a few. Ichimonji Norimune is one, Kochou Shinbou another, and one of the lieutenants - she goes by Andy. All of them are reliable people, should you find yourself at a loss for Department specific matters.
[an outside perspective only goes so far, after all.]
( Giving him names? He sets the book he was holding aside and pulls out a journal from his inner pocket instead, jotting them down quickly. He remembers one of them, but he'll note the others just in case... )
Thanks. ( A pause, clear uncertainty in the air. He doesn't know what to say next... It all feels awkward. What do normal people talk about? )
So... That book. ( The bee one. ) What type of book is it, exactly?
[she holds it up so he can see. The Beekeeper's Diaries, Volume 4. unassuming from the front, but a medium sized book.]
It's a murder mystery series, if you like that sort of thing, but it's also got elements of romance, and of course there's time devoted to the apiculture - all of it links together! It feels like an entirely different world committed to the page, and you'd be surprised how engrossing it gets. In the second book, I won't spoil who did it, but one of the murders isn't even of a person at all - it's one of the hives, and it leads to an unbelievable twist in a hedge maze.
[she'll stop before she feels the urge to go on and on. it's better for someone to find out their own truth, really.]
I'm not inclined towards television, so books are really one of my great joys.
( The way she immediately seems to light up talking about it is noticeable, and Shealtiel can't help but compare it to someone he misses from home. Ironically, the babbling he's thinking of involves a TV series, but this joy seems to come from the same place.
Shealtiel reads a lot, but it's not one of his joys. It's not even a hobby. It's purely informational. He doesn't want to say that and discount all of the sweet things she just said about this book, though, so he'll focus on a different angle. )
I've never really gotten into fiction before... Is it sort of like an escape? I guess it's not too different from television, though.
( It sounds more like he just doesn't comprehend what fun time is, really... )
Shealtiel hums after a moment of thought, eyes returning to scan the books on the shelves in front of them both. )
I guess it doesn't have to be that deep. Thanks for explaining it to me, anyway. I'll probably come back here a lot to look through different books, so maybe I'll try it some time.

Y-yeah, kind of. Is that strange?

[and so, it's clear by her face, her expression, that this is a novelty to her. something nice, instead of something strange.]
Did you enjoy the show?

[she laughs a little, more at that idea than anything.]
If you liked it, I'd be happy to see you again, when you're free - there's usually a schedule that says what the night's theme of music is.
[different feelings for different days. they had a wide variety. maybe he's more into rock, or something more poppy.]

[she's not wearing her pin on her collar, so it's a fair question.]
I take it you arrived elsewhere? I would have recognized your face, if you were in the newcomers to that particular collection of clans.

It's just someone telling you a story, but on paper instead of with their voice.
