Substory # 3 – It’s very time consuming
[Soo Won was wandering around the city, visiting the locals he had befriended for any interesting rumors. The most popular one was about a cursed watch that brought misfortune. A year ago Soo Won might have dismissed it as superstition but his time in Hakagemachi had opened his eyes. Not to mention it could be fun tracking it down.
Soo Won followed the clues to a store with a broken window. The owner wasn’t around so Soo Won just looked around, his attention turned to the broken window as he mused out loud.]
Well, the rumor about misfortune seems to be true.
[It looked like the store had been robbed. The quiet notes of a gottan resonated in the minds of anyone nearby as Miyako answered Soo Won by lazily plucking her strings with little interest. She was bored. Magic may feel new and fascinating to Soo Won but haunted items were normal to her. Her absentminded notes suddenly changed with a startled and angry twang when she saw a damaged shamisen through the broken window. How dare they!]
Substory # 4 – It’s in the stars
[Soo Won was relieved everything was returning back to normal and a little competition between the factions was a nice change of pace from the turf war. Soo Won calculated the best places that would be overlooked by the over-eager participants and began his search. Simple enough, except the more stardust he gathered, the more unhappy he felt with his secret search. True it was efficient, but it wasn’t as satisfying on his own. Hak and Yona’s faces came to mind but he knew those days were long gone.
Miyako didn’t share Soo Won’s melancholy thoughts at all. The happy music that danced through the minds of the people nearby sounded drunk as her notes lazily slid over the strings in a chipper melody. Soo Won managed a weak smile. He was glad Miyako was enjoying herself. His lingering sad thoughts were interrupted by the arrival of someone else. Soo Won had never been happier to have someone figure out his strategy and Miyako mirrored his radiant smile with a dramatic flourish of bright notes.]
Are you looking for stardust as well?
Musician in Red (Tamamo territory)
[Perhaps you have heard the rumor of the musician in red. The mysterious masked musician with long black hair, wearing a red kimono who vanishes after every performance. She performed in a different place every other night, always within Tamamo territory. Tonight she was playing in a cabaret club.
The soft lighting of the stage illuminated the broken mask that covered most of her face as her fingers gracefully danced over the shamisen in a traditional melody. A spiderweb design branched over the ghostly white porcelain, leading to an orange butterfly that was entangled in the webs over the intact left eyehole. The brightly colored butterfly cleverly drew attention away from the sea green eye that peeked out of the broken right side of the mask. True to her reputation, after a few songs she silently left the stage and quickly vanished backstage.
Miyako quietly left the building, a small bag with her shamisen slung over her shoulder as she ducked into the alley she and Soo Won had chosen for her escape route the night before. She stayed still, listening for any footsteps among the various sounds of the city’s nightlife.]

so now he waits at his bar for anyone to come by. he'd already offered his services before, and word will soon circulate that the esteemed owner of hemlock is now open for those kinds of lessons. and soon enough: ]
Oh? Come for a drink? Or... something else?
[ why did he say it like he's coming on to him already ]
sorry I'm late
He gave Shylock a charming smile when he joined him at the bar.]
I was looking for a teacher.
[The suggestive greeting was a bit of a surprise and Soo Won quickly clarified.]
I heard the esteemed owner of hemlock was offering mixology lessons.
[Maybe learning how to mix drinks wasn't the only kind of lessons he was offering.]
it's no problem!
[ because hemlock is not just famous for its adamance on disallowing technology in its premises. shylock beams, and gestures soo won to join him behind the bar. ]
To whom do I owe the pleasure of teaching today?
thanks! the snail returns
I probably should stick to the basics first but I'm a quick learner and I would love to learn more expert techniques if my skills allow it.
My name is Soo Won.
[There was a slight pause as Soo Won considered something before quickly adding.]
And the music you might hear in your mind is Yin. It's a pleasure to meet you.
[As if summoned by her name, Miyako chimed in with a string of delicate telepathic notes. Soo Won was more interested in mixology and bartending than she was but they shared a mind as much as a body and she could feel Soo Won's curiosity as her own.]

[ shylock's smile is indiscernible. he may be a teacher to his fellow wizards from the west back home, but he is a rather eclectic mentor. let's hope this guy can keep up with his horrid attention span.
he blinks at the sudden tinkle of music, then smiles. ah, he's one of those people that shylock has met in this realm... ]
Likewise. Now, take this apron and join me at the bar. How often do you drink, Mr. Soo Won?
no subject
I drink on occasion.
[He was curious what kind of teacher Shylock would be. He was always eager to learn new things, but his mentor's methods, no matter how strange was an important part of the experience as well.]
no subject
Just on occasion? While you are not required to imbibe all the time, I do think that you'll need a thorough lesson on the basics of bartending. What kind of drinks have you tasted thus far?
[ it's natural for him to ask, after all. gotta know the extent of this young man's knowledge. ]
