[ she bounces into the bookstore with the other hashira in tow, elated to be introducing her friends to one another. there’s a brief, awkward moment where an employee’s head turns sharply in their direction: mitsuri’s sudden outburst had cut through any other happenings in the store, and created something of an awkward pause. ]

Oh… Sorry, miss! Fushiguro Megumi isn’t scheduled to work today… Maybe you should have checked with him first, before you came in? [ the employee — an inugami — approaches them with an apologetic expression. ]

Eeeh? I wanted to surprise him, though … [ but it would have made more sense to check with him in the first place. ]

I guess I’ll text him later… um! Maybe we could look around anyways? [ she thanks the inugami and turns back to her fellow hashira. ]

To be honest, I wanted to buy you a ghost story book as a surprise, Shinobu-chan. Maybe we can pick one together?

[The harsh reality of clashing factions, unprecedented alliances and uncertain leadership comes to a slow and gradual halt once she finds herself in the middle of the bookstore. It's no secret among the Hashira that Shinobu keeps a diligent amount of reading material within her own mansion and favorites among those happen to be—

Ah, that's right.] Ah, a surprise for me?

[A genuine smile lifts her lips before she very pointedly tips her hands in the direction of their third member.] Well, I can't say we've ever done something like this together before... but if neither you or Rengoku-san will object...

Shall we head to the horror section together?

( he's never been quite the fan of reading that some of the other hashira are, but that isn't to say he doesn't enjoy it: there is a certain feeling to bookstores that has always made him feel at peace, though he's disturbed quite a few with his loud, boisterous voice and sudden entrances. here, for now, he follows at the back of mitsuri and shinobu; his gaze goes sidelong, towards the door, but other than the staff, there appears to be nothing to worry about just yet.

with his arms folded lightly across his chest, he looks from one hashira to the next, nodding with a sharp sound of confirmation. )

To the horror section! There is nothing better in summer!

( his smile, easy and amused, goes along with the slight nudge of his elbows: once to shinobu's back, and then once to mitsuri's back, encouraging them to go ahead of him--he will follow diligently, as though he trusts them to guard their fronts, while he keeps sight of their rear. it's just a bookstore, but in this place? who knows what might happen.

still, he's very clearly, happily, reading off random titles from spines of books as they walk past shelves and sections, declaring them loudly to the whole of the shop... )

[ she trips a little at the sudden nudge, a slight stumble to her steps before she regains the usual bounce in her walk. there's a part of her that feels a little nervous about the noise rengoku is making, suddenly aware of their level of volume due to her own prior outburst. mitsuri glances at him briefly before turning her attention to the nearby workers.

she can see a pair of them shaking their heads, one looking particularly incredulous, but they keep to themselves... for now. she knows they intend to keep their eyes on the colourful group though, keen to see if the hashira are going to damage any property or grow further boisterous. ]

Oh! There's the horror section! [ she interrupts rengoku in the middle of relaying a book title, pinching onto the edge of shinobu's haori as she points to the section's large, overhead sign. she's a little less than gentle as she brings the other girl forwards with her, excitedly drawing her towards the first set of books. ]

Lonesome Pumpkin ... Fearful Cat, Don't Go There ... [ her fingertip traces along the titles as she reads them off the book spines ]
Hmm... These seem kind of cute! They're definitely for little kids, don't you think?

[ it was absolutely the kind of thing her mother would read to mitsuri and her siblings when they were younger, so obviously this kind of thing was way beneath shinobu's level ]

What about that one over there? The Weeping Woman?
