For Emily
It brought back memories. The long and foreboding days in Hakagematchi when it was only a dozen or so of them in a dying town. Emily's quiet apartment that seconded as an at-home-clinic. The days he would just get bored and chill around because he had nothing better to do and she was something interesting.
She still was something interesting.
It's just, Jigoku-Cho was a lot more hectic. And with what he had heard from the grapevines about her starting up some underground clinic he knew she'd be far too busy for him to do as he used to and just lounge around while she worked.
And besides, the way he was, it wasn't like he ever really needed a doctor.
And yet here he was, staring at the small clinic with his phone in hand. Hesitating for a moment before finally gulping back and stepping inside.
Right.
He had to do this.
It was for his own good.
And not that the city was finally starting to quiet down a little, despite what was going on with the Enma, he had no excuses.]
Yoooo~ Sha Gojyo here and reporting for duty for clinical experimentation!
[Of course he'd make an entrance for himself in his usual loud and obnoxious 'Sha Gojyo' way. How could he not?]
no subject
if he wants to see someone in particular, he'll have to wait.
the form is simple enough - name, birthday, simple medical history. just to get an overview of a new patient provided there was no emergency. it truly is a waste of his time.]
no subject
None the less he felt his heart drop as he walked into a waiting room full of strangers.
Playing it off in the best way he knew how, with sheer forced confidence, as he playfully winked at the crane woman as he took his form.
Shit. Medical information, huh? He knew his height (184 cm), and the general amount of his weight (75 kg). And of course age, birthday, and name were easy enough. (24, November 9th, and Sha Gojyo respectively ♥) Hell, he was even able to offer a little note next to his phone number and contact information Offering a little heart with the phrase "call me" beside it. But when it came to anything past his basic info he really didn't have much to put. Half not knowing enough about himself to really put anything down and half too nervous about letting anything too personal get out, he only took a few seconds before he came back to hand off what was essentially the most bare minimum and sloppily jotted down form he could muster.
Damn. How was he already second guessing his time here? Maybe he shouldn't have listened to Majimas insistence.
None the less he did his best to try to stick it out despite his nerves. Worst case scenario he could always just walk out at any point he felt like, right?]
no subject
Now remember, if anything feels amiss, you give us a call, and we'll be here for you. Someone will be by in two days to check on the progress - there's no need for you to come all the way down here if you don't feel up to it.
[catching Gojyo's eye, she smiles, but looks back to her patient, until they've been helped out the door and on their way. then does she look to him.]
Mr. Sha, thank you for your patience. Follow me?
[she'll lead him to the room she just exited, going into the cabinets to find what she had made for him the previous day.]
no subject
[Ah. At least the sight of someone familiar was enough to ease his nerves a little. But then there was the professionalism.
'Mr.Sha', it felt weird. When was the last time anyone ever calle dhim 'Mr.Sha'.
It was enough to cause him to look up with a wide-eyes surprise that, thankfully, only lasted a second or two before he quickly recovered. Sighing as he stood up from his chair, burying his hands in his pockets while he shrugged his shoulders.]
Yeah, yeah, whatever you say Ms. Dyer. ♥
[His way of a nice little come-back. Fight formality with formality, yeah?
None the less he couldn't help but eye the old kappa woman on the way out. Casually sitting down at the one available office chairs in the room as Emily dug around for, well, whatever it was she was looking for.
The medicine perhaps?]
Sort of reminds me of the old lady from back in Hakagemachi.
The old flirty medicine woman.
[Surely a little bit of small talk might just help get his mind off the tension.]
no subject
[there, that's what she needed. pulling out a paper wrapped package, she holds it up.]
There we are. Three variations on the same medicine, all measured out to one dose each. For ease, I've labelled them A, B, and C, and so all you'll have to do is tell me how you feel about each one.
no subject
[He let out a soft chuckle with that. Wistfully unable to help but wonder if she was all right. If anyone they left behind was all right.
Damn, things were fucked up before they ended up here in Jigoku-Cho.
Well, that was neither here nor there at the moment. Instead, Gojyo lifted his head as he looked over the small bag Emily handed out to him.]
That's it? Pop one of these into my mouth every now and then and see what happens?
[There was no way it was that easy. Nonetheless, he reached out, taking the bag as Emily offered it.]
no subject
[he'll feel it has three small plastic bottles in the package - hardly heavy. a completely painless experience.]
I know how it feels to want to keep control, and since I already made this to counter our rains...
no subject
[He seemed to simmer down a little with that, starting casually at the package with a bit of a distanced expression.]
I'm amazed that you're so willing to just hand it over without question like that. Ain't doctors supposed to be all invasive? Ask about why a person needs tests on themselves to figure things out or--
[He sat up a little. Realization seeming to hit.]
Wait. Did Hibiki tell ya about the situation already?
no subject
They didn't tell me a thing beyond answering your question. And I don't understand why I'd need to be invasive about this. We are in the unique position of housing two souls within ourselves, and that leaves us vulnerable to influence. That you'd want assistance seems only natural.
no subject
[He sat up with that, startled but also oddly comforted over Hibiki's vow of silence on the matter. Of course, that gave him other concerns.
Why would tests need to be run if this has been basically used on every other Hakagemachi resident already? Would these tests cater to his specific problem enough? What's the difference between the pills and has everyone who's come in before him taken the same procedures?
It was a shame he was still so damn edgy about the situation.]
I see...
[He looked down at the bag again before giving a curt nod of his head.]
Thanks... Em.
[In the end he just couldn't find the strength to bring it up. Even if it was Emily, a doctor was still a doctor, right?]
no subject
[she looks at him, concern pinching her features.]
What's wrong, Gojyo? Tell me - if something's wrong, we can try and fix it.
no subject
Like, I appreciate what you're doing, Em; it's just--
[Gojyo sighed out and reached up to scratch subconsciously at the back of his neck as he took a moment to figure out how to actually at least try and talk about things.]
Guess it's kind of stupid as hell, bringing it up now, but I have to tell you I've never been too good at handling myself around doctors.
[It was different with her in the past. Back then, in Hakagemachi, it was more or less him coming around to be an affectionate nuisance. Besides stealing a first aid kit or two off of her occasionally, he never took a moment to be treated as a patient. This was different.
This meeting was about him.
And he didn't like it when things were about him.]
no subject
[she folds her arms, looking at him.]
People get uncomfortable around doctors for all sorts of reasons. I've seen children frightened of strangers, adults who fainted at blood. Back in that city, even, I had a patient who couldn't stand needles. So, tell me - what can I do to make it an easier time for you when you come in?
no subject
Even after all this time, the months it had been, Emily was still very much the same. Still sweet, ever caring, constantly catering to others. He almost felt bad being as hesitant about things as he was. But years of caution ingrained into him as means to survive the cruel worlds that came before this were hard to simply change.
None the less... Maybe he could?]
There's lot's of different types of people here, unlike Hakagemachi.
[Human and not human alike. It was almost exhilarating. A breath of fresh air. And yet even in throughout all of this he had yet to find someone like himself.]
And I know doctors are supposed to be discrete and shit with the whole doctor patient confidentiality thing but-- Like. What if you're dealing with something you haven't dealt with before? In the end you're still scientists... Right? You gotta understand what yer dealing with in order to figure it out.
no subject
But from the way you say it, I assume that the intentions of the doctors you've seen before weren't perhaps so...clear cut.
[that's the kindest way she can think to say it. the hesitation in his voice speaks volumes, as does his posture.]
no subject
[He never really needed them, as fast as his manner of healing always had been. And sure he had gotten sick on occasion, and had a weak stomach with certain foods, but in the end he was always able to recover from that too. And he knew, considering how things were, even if he were on his deathbed he would probably hesitate to see anyone about it unless it was someone he really trusted.]
I ain't... normal... biologically speaking. I know I'm not the only one here that isn't. Hell, seems to be more and more common these days. But even still I never ran into anyone dealing with my sort of situation.
Getting possessed like this even just makes things more complicated.
[With that, his shoulders slouched. Seeming to relax with his body language as he looked up at her.]
Guess I've been warned one too many times about how, if I spoke about, it I'd just be resorted to some sort of science experiment.
no subject
Gojyo...I'm so sorry.
[that he had to go through that, fear like that. that he couldn't trust someone would take care of him if he needed it. how much, then, did he suffer needlessly?]
no subject
But then again it wasn't like he had told her much of anything either.]
These pills... They effect youkai. Both mentally and physically. Which, I guess it's good since they do get a little wild on occasion. But... Well, since I'm already sort of youkai myself, I can't help but worry that it may have the same effect on me as well.
Make me all zombie brained or something during a time when I might be needed.
[Well, at least he can talk about it now.]
no subject
[call it crazy, but she wasn't going to hand out a medicine that she couldn't vouch for.]
That said, if they do have that effect on you, as much as I want to say they won't, then tell me. Let me know, so I can change things, and get you what you need. I don't want you to feel as though you're an experiment, but a friend who I want to help.
[she leaves her hand where it is, for the moment.]
If we figure this out now, then it won't be a risk for when you need it.
no subject
[He shrugged casually, still not used to talking about it in such a clinical way.]
Being inherently biologically youkai, y'know?
[It was weird. Like Gojyo was an in-between of two different in-betweens. As if he were losing that little human part of himself more and more without it ever going away completely.]
Differences like that seem small with the wording of it all, but they are different. And those little differences make a big deal in the medical field, yeah?
[He turned his head away, feeling somewhat silly for bringing it all up.]
I dunno. Maybe I'm just worrying too much. Guess the negative energy aura and rain must've gotten me a bit paranoid or something.
Sorry.
