[ it took some time and effort, but ryouma finally got the venue for this very important shindig squared away. it's not easy to find a location that checks so many boxes — unaffiliated, secure, windowless — and still maintain a suitable level of quality, but it's a big city and ryouma is nothing if not determined.
per majima's suggestion, he left the matter of formal invitations to the daitengu where the other leaders are concerned. he thinks only of what he needs to do, confident that if he does his job well the rest will fall into place. now more than ever solidarity will be important. recent events should, ideally, emphasise the need for everyone to pull together. ever the opportunist, ryouma's sense of the times tells him the time is ripe to take this last step.

though arranged in one of the smaller rooms, its usual decor has been replaced with a single round table and three chairs, which makes the space appear larger. it's all been set up like a proper business meeting — a little self-serve water, coffee, and tea. some notepads and pens to write with. ashtrays for the smokers. nothing too fancy.
ryouma actually dressed up for this. he might've preferred to do things his way and prioritise comfort or at least familiarity, but it's a gesture. he's taking things seriously.plus it just looks good. he may not be wearing a uniform but he's still paired gloves with his suit — he's still healing and bandages just project a weakness — but at least his colour's improved.
he's done everything he could do — now he waits for his guests to arrive. ]

Ya see, that's a real problem for me. Not only did ya shoot my lieutenant, then ya let him run off. I ain't got a bunch've spare lieutenants lyin' around, Sakamoto.
[ A push. ]
Ya've caused me a real fuckin' inconvenience.

[ he won't let himself be pushed around, holding his ground. he may not like to fight, but he's well-trained and spent enough time around men who will fight at the drop of a hat that he knows posturing when he sees it.
his more logical mind picks up the slack and reminds him where he is and what he's doing. and what he knows. he gives majima a long, studying look. this is business and ryouma is a businessman. as much as he hates to admit it, he's not going to win any points trying to do this his way. ]
I can't change what happened. In that case, let's settle it. I don't expect to you to come to the table when you're already at a loss.

[ He will absolutely tank this entire negotiation over this. His willingness to end the war in blood has never been a bluff. ]

Then name a fair price and let's get on with it. You walked in here with something in mind, didn't you?
[ of course he has no good frame of reference for "fair". whatever majima has to demand for the clan to not lose face, obviously. a penalty, he assumes, for giving majima another reason not to like him. another on top of that just for what he'd done to izō on a personal level? ryouma would deserve it. still, he won't just agree to something unreasonable. ]

[ He lifts his chin slightly, the corner of his mouth quirking up coldly. ]
Ya can probably manage it in a year or two, if ya work hard.
[ Majima would know, personally. It's the amount that was put in front of him to earn in order to rejoin the Tojo Clan. They had increased the amount to 500 million yen when he met the initial bar too quickly. ]

We'll see about that.
[ the time frame, however? he does like a challenge. ryouma would also like to hope that he won't spend the next several years in a debtor's hell owing money to the yakuza on top of just regular, everyday hell. ]
But what's owed will be paid in full one way or another.
[ he holds his hand out to shake on it. congratulations, majima. you have him right where you want him and he knows it. ]

[ Majima shakes his hand with a stiff, unfriendly grip. ]
I'll send someone by yer office for collections first of next month. Get somethin' ready.
[ He lets go and, as he leaves, makes sure to push him back with the full extension of his arm. He would like to have no further personal dealings with this loser. ]
