[ It isn't him. It moves and it makes empty gestures without letting itself be lured into any overt faux pas, but it is blank. It is not writ with his life, it does not bear his burdens. Even the snake is nowhere to be found.

It is not him and sometimes its private smiles acknowledge as much. ]

[ At first, he could dismiss a lot of the... "off" feeling Majima was giving him by the nature of the crisis they were in. Lio, after all, had felt that Frenzy, what it had done to him, the all too real seeming illusions of himself ashing away and the panic that had set in. People were, for the most part, not in the best headspace, even if they weren't plunged into the worst of it.

But it was sustained and persistent in a way that became increasingly difficult to dismiss or ignore. He moved through the motions of "Majima", but there was a notable absence behind his eye. Majima, at the worse Lio had seen him, still had the eyes of an animal there, be it himself or the snake.

This... didn't have anything. No light to speak of. Just... nothing.

They were together on patrol, scouting for more people in need of help, when Lio decided to go off route, breaking from where they'd been told to go, just... testing to see how "Majima" would react. ]

[ The thing lingers behind at the last intersection for a moment, gazing thoughtfully after Lio. It has no clear reason to leave or follow and that gums up its decision making. After a moment, it manages to determine that it should likely appear to care. ]

Did ya see somethin'?

[ Its head tilts with all the curiosity of an inanimate doll. ]

I heard some voices. Could be some stranded people.

[ Good, he had its attention. But now he just needed to get it a little further away... If this was going to wind up where it felt like it was going to, he needed to be prepared to face something far worse than a simple copy... He was probably going to need some space to get a good read on the guy, without getting too close... ]

[no_kyouken]

Hm.

[ Agreement, although not with the kind of interest Majima would have shown. It motions for Lio to go ahead and lead the way, skulking along after. ]

[ganashara]

[ Some distance into the alley, Lio stopped, without turning to the other man, and called out. ]

Hey, Majima...

Remind me again, what was the name of your boss? Before coming here, I mean.

[ Majima had never told him that. It'd be interesting if this copy... even knew the answer. ]

Was banished. Ain't no boss.

[ An annoying answer which obfuscates exactly what it knows or does not. But it does so enjoy dropping around little pieces of Majima's misfortunes. ]

[ganashara]

[ Well. He couldn't say for certain how true that was, but it suited his purposes regardless. ]

Is that so...

Hey... when did you tell me that, again? My memory is so rattled from everything going on...

Dunno. Maybe when I was drinkin'.

[ It knows this about Majima, how often and how deep he hides in alcohol. ]

Yeah, actually...

[ Far enough into the alleyway, away from anyone else that was out searching... Lio extended his hand, summoning up a tuft of neon flame as he caught sight of "Majima"s empty eyes over his shoulder. ]

I'm pretty sure you never told me.

[ And before the thing could think of anything else to say, Lio turned on heel, whipping his hand across and casting out a spray of white-hot fire. ]

[ Wow fuck. The haunt makes some utterly inhuman noises, growling and clicking. Its form wavers, showing something gelatinous and grey for a moment before it pulls itself back together.

It sneers, smoldering and shaking, dripping ooze. It croaks at him, ]

Took you all long enough.

[ganashara]

Shut up.

[ The voice was barely Majima's any longer, but it still made his blood heat up to hear that profane use of anything familiar by this horrific thing. Lio tossed out another blast of flame, this time even hotter, not wanting to give the thing a chance to reconstitute. ]

[ It makes strange, gargling noises as the flame envelopes it, melting down into little more than a puddle of shimmering ooze. One might think that would be that... ]

[ganashara]

[ Lio... wasn't going to take his chances. But more than simply a matter of protecting himself from a potential counter attack, there was also a definite anger in how his fires burned. Each blast was hotter than the last, scarring the pavement, incinerating nearby debris, turning the entire alley into his personal, hellish foundry. ]

Just die, already!

[ Oh so hot. Oh so scary. Too bad it was only ever a reflection as it was. There's another one on the other side of town already. ]
