[with his permission, then, she can proceed. to clean it as gently as possible, since if it hasn't been covered it needs that done again. to carefully inject the local anesthetic she has near it, so that things will go numb soon enough, and allow him some relief. to cover it up, even as she wants badly to close it and let him recover that way.]

...You'll need stitches, if you're set on not taking it easy for the next month.

[ Her concern feels...nice, at least. Genuine. The same sort of feeling he got from Hizen.

He doesn't deserve it. ]

Of course I will. If you're going to bear this wound, you can at least bear it with it assured to heal the best it can.

[she knows he won't go to an actual hospital or anywhere else and do it on his own. he knows she won't speak of this happening to anyone beyond him.]

Well, get it over with already.

[ Fussy. At least he's being a decent patient and not flinching or squirming too much. He trusts her completely...Even if he learned trust can be a dangerous thing. She isn't consumed by the nightmare the way Ryouma was. It's different.

He can trust her not to make this even worse than it already is. ]

It does.

[it tells her what she'll need to stitch up, and this she knows better than any magic - when it's been long enough to dull his pain down to an annoyance, then she can start her work. careful, steady hands, tiny stitches on the exit wound so that it'll be able to pull itself together. this isn't anything that'll let him off easy - he'll still have to be careful - but he won't be oozing blood by the time she's done, bandages clean and snug, and most importantly, his pain will be even more reduced.]

There...that should hold you for today, as long as you're careful. I can see to changing that often enough, if you'd like.

[it's a beacon of normal in the midst of this bad dream. something she can do, that she understands.]

It is easier to function now that the frenzy has subsided and the pain of his wound is numbed. He now has the clarity of mind to question everything and have a hazy recollection of everything he's done tonight.

Not...what he wants right now. ]

Look...we should go. Or ya should. I dunno. Shit's bad right now an' I dunno how long I'm gonna be able t' hold it together.

We are going. If it comes back, we'll figure out what to do.

[she'll say it over and over, she's not leaving. it'd be like sacrificing him to the horror for what, not even trying to save her own skin. no, this is what he chose when he talked about staying together.]

The leaders are asking everyone to gather in headquarters - whatever's closest, we can go there. I don't mind begging if I have to.

[sort of a lie. she does mind it, but temporary shelter from this haze would be welcome enough that to humble one's pride wasn't so far out of the question.]

[ He should just go with her and seek shelter. It would be the smart thing to do. He isn't think clearly, though, and worries too much about hurting people. Presence Concealment will allow him to slip away from her unnoticed once they're on their way. His plan brings him no joy, but it's what he's decided on.

He pulls his shirt closed and shrugs. ]

Well, let's get goin' then...

[ He just has to stay out there long enough for her to get ahead of him. ]

Okay.

[she gives him a smile as she tucks everything back in her bag, kissing him on the cheek - they're going to be alright, they'll manage through this. checking on her phone, it looks like they're closest to Mizukume, and that should allow them to catch their breath long enough to try and make contact with the others.

there's a plan now, and she's glad for it. they should be able to make it - his medicine won't wear off that fast. carefully, they can make their way through, and she stays close - it's only when the sidewalk narrows at a point, taken over by some currently unused stall, that she'll move ahead of him, calm and focused on the destination.

she'll be okay. he's right behind her, after all.]

[ How relieved she is, that little kiss she gives him makes his decision that much harder to go through with. It's like someone's squeezing his heart. It's for her benefit, he tells himself. It's for her safety. He can't hurt her again if he's not there.

The moment she breaks from him, it's like he was never there. He activates Presence Concealment and fades away like a shadow in the night. It's easy to distance himself now, to run soundlessly onto a side street and fly up onto the rooftops.

It's not easy to know he just left her behind. It's not easy to know the despair she'll feel when she notices he's not there. ]

[ It's not loud enough to be heard over the rain, especially not from the distance he put between them. It's not enough to make him feel better about what he's doing.

He'll make it up to her once it's safe. ]
