Who:: Childe (
narbrawl ) and Hu Tao (
localweirdo )
What:: gossiping w/ the grave girl
When:: Early June
Where: Around
Content Warnings: N/A
[However long Hu Tao finds herself waiting, even Hell seems to have its own seasons and so the weather is on her side. It’s too early for summer storms and too late for the last of spring’s chill, leaving a perfectly warm, comfortable day in spite of the perpetually overcast skies. By the time that Childe arrives, it’s a little past noon- and the time they agreed on- but he takes his time in sauntering over, one hand in his pocket and the other raised in greeting.]
Sorry to keep you waiting!
[Today, he’s dressed both for the temperature and familiar company, leaving him in an odd mix of more Jigokucho-friendly styles and the typical Fatui uniform. Instead of his uniform, Childe’s scarf is pinned to a light bomber jacket and his Vision clashes terribly with his jeans.]
Still up for sushi? [He cocks his head to the side.] I know a place nearby.
[Confident as ever, as though he were introducing Hu Tao to a favourite Snezhnayan bakery or tavern rather than a place in a still unfamiliar city. The truth is somewhere in the middle. It won’t show in his smile but Childe’s been anticipating this meeting with equal parts excitement and unease, though not because of the director herself. On the handful of occasions that they shared each others’ company, it was always with Zhongli in tow and it’s that particular absence that has his mind racing.
Why does he care so much? It’s a little pathetic, really, and he’s quietly cursing himself for still wanting to know about the old dragon. For all his claims of merely wanting a fight to settle the score, he’s spent more time than he’d like to admit nursing his wounded pride. A Harbinger, hung up on one betrayal of the many they’ll probably experience in their service to the Tsaritsa- if any of the others knew, Childe is certain that he’d never hear the end of it.
But they’re in Teyvat and he’s here and hasn’t eaten anything all morning. Sushi takes priority, as does Hu Tao herself; he’s not so rude as to spend an entire lunch sulking over someone else entirely. Besides, he likes her and all her little eccentricities. There’s even a coffin reserved for him back in Wangsheng Funeral Parlour because her pitch was soentertaining compelling.]

Oh, it's fine! You didn't keep me waiting for too long!
[She said as she waved back at Childe. Despite being out in the summer heat, it didn't bother her to wait. However, what she wasn't use to was wearing the clothes this place offered her. Wearing a regular black jacket and some jeans, it was quite the departure of what she normally wore.]
But yes I am. Please do guide me to this place you speak of. I don't think I can wait any longer!
[She gave a chuckle or two. Was she being serious about being that hungry or not? That was up for Childe to figure out!]

Hu Tao is a cryptid anyway lbr.]Try not to die of hunger on the way there, hmm? That's your area of expertise, not mine. [Childe laughs brightly and tucks one hand in his jacket pocket, gesturing with the other.] Anyway, it's just over the road.
[Small businesses and restaurants line the streets either side of them, showing off daily specials and more exotic dishes alike. He can't help but pause to admire the small, plastic display dishes in the windows every now and then, eyes lit up with boyish curiosity. For the months he's been here, it never fails to fascinate him.]
Out of curiosity... have you been able to use your Vision at all?

Despite the grin on her face, she had to admit. She was feeling homesick as she saw the various stores. Was it silly of her to think about her own city only after being in hell for 2 months? Ah, she shouldn't be thinking about that!
Shaking her head, she needed to focus on having fun right now!]
My vision? Yes but I'm afraid it's not quite as strong as it once was. I tried to knock down a demon but it barely did any damage! How troublesome!
[Not to mention her pride took a hit too!] I'm safe to assume it's the same for you?
holy shit i lost this comment entirely
It seems prudent to keep that to himself for now. Thankfully, he's saved from revealing the extent of his disempowerment by their arrival at the restaurant. It's a more modern place than some of the others, deocrated with pops of colour and a stylised bento box next to its name: MakiMaki-Ya. The clientele is just as colourful and includes a gaggle of bōsōzoku in matching boiler suits embroiled in a deep discussion about decals.]
Here we are! [He ducks inside, holding the door open for Hu Tao to follow.] Want me to pick something out to share while find us somewhere to sit? Don't worry about the bill, I'll cover it.
How dare you.
Not when she was supposed to out for a joyous occasion.
Seeing the restaurant before her, she was impressed. This was nothing like the shops she ventured to in Liyue and it was supposed to be the newest thing in hell. As her eyes widen to the strange new place, she couldn't help but gasp at the sight.]
You're awfully kind to pay for the meal! However, please don't feel like you have to. Unlike Zhongli, I always have my wallet with me.
goes to the shame corner
godfunereal assistant and his perpetually empty coin purse makes him smile on instinct. By the time the Rite of Descension came around, Childe had gotten so used to Zhongli's habits that he'd made sure to carry extra mora if he knew they were meeting up. It was endearing at the time and still is, albeit slightly soured by how things ended. But this isn't about Zhongli. Childe adjusts his expression, purging any hint of nostalgia and replacing it with a brotherly grin.]
I insist! I'm the one who suggested it, after all. [Chuckling, he gives her a little nudge.] Now, go and sit down.
Dishonor. Dishonor on your family, dishonor on your cow.
[That and as the director of the funeral, it was only right that she pay when Zhongli couldn't! Not only that, her honor as a businesswoman wouldn't allow it. Until then? As she sat down, she couldn't help but chuckle.
Looking at the menu before her, there were so many options! Not only that...]
I have to admit, looking at this menu, I'm not sure what to get. What a conundrum.

Let's see... [Childe leans over the table to examine the menu for himself. Without Zhongli and his disdain for seafood to consider, it's all fair game, from the tuna to the tamagoyaki to even the octopus if they feel like it.] Tell you what, I'll go get drinks and the basic sharing platter and if we want anything else, we can get it afterwards.
[And he does just that, returning with two iced green teas on a tray. Each is decorated with a twisted lemon slice and a stirrer decorated to look like nori is wrapped around it.]
They'll be over with the food when it's ready.
That art is adorable
[If only the people of Liyue could see her now. Perhaps they would find her even more of a strange girl for attempting to go out to lunch with the one of the Harbingers. But then again, they weren't exactly in Teyvat.
As she grabbed a hold of the drink, she could help but grin as she kept on stirring the green tea with the object. In doing so, she started to hum along a certain tune. If Zhongli was still hanging around with Childe after what happened? Perhaps, he wasn't as bad as people say he was.]

Patience is key.]
How are you finding it here? [He stirs his drink absently as he speaks, enjoying the delicate clink of the ice against the glass- until he feigns a wince.] Ah- now you've put that song in my head again...!
[good so see that she's stayed her cheerfully morbid self even after being dropped in the middle of hell tho???]

[If anything, it was even more scarier that her duties as a funeral director was left in the hands of her undertakers. She didn't know if they would be able to succeed without her nor did she know if the business would eventually run its course.
Despite the momentary look of disappointment, she waved her hand by her face.]
If anything, I seem to be right at home with all the death around me! [Alas, not everyone felt the same way]
