[ In his mind, he'd hoped the food would be a good peace offering between them and it had all backfired magnificently instead. He's not shocked. ]

[ He wipes at his face with his sleeve with a sigh. It's not really doing much. Izō seems to have calmed down at least. ]

...Can I go back in? I ain't gonna start shit...I jus' wanna grab some booze and go take a shower.

[ And probably pick up his discarded sword before going to sulk in their bed for the foreseeable future. ]

[ Majima didn't bring him out here to bar him from it, he thought the fresh air might genuinely be called for to calm him down. ]

[ He defaults to a scolded dog once the rage burns away. It's a defense mechanism. Maybe he won't get cast aside if he keeps his head down, if he stops being too much of a problem. It's why he asks for permission to go back inside; it's their place, yes, but Izō still thinks of himself as little more than an unwanted guest. He's been shown otherwise so many times, but it's so hard to let old wounds heal.

Izō keeps his head down, staring a hole into the concrete. ]

I can handle him. [ He doesn't know that. The chance it'll flare up again the moment he walks past the threshold is strong. It's not like he can just go somewhere else in the state he's in now, splashed with someone else's blood. ] Sorry...For always bein' too much.

[ He's really stuck in his own head now. Booze and time alone is probably the worst remedy for him, but that's the only way he knows how to cope. He'll drink enough to push the feelings down and pass out and wake up like nothing happened. Same as it always is. ]

[ Majima makes a face, because seriously, ]

He's too fuckin' much.

[ But he stands up, offers out his hand to give Izo a pull up too. ]

[ Well, he's not going to argue. Part of him knows he's being ridiculous and that part of him will trust Majima's judgement. He sulks on the ground for a few moments longer before he takes Majima's hand to pull himself up. No more fussing, just quiet, internalized self-loathing. ]

[ When they reenter the apartment, Nishitani is no where to be seen, but damn can he be heard. He's in the shower, singing loudly and poorly, pleased as a peach. The worst of the bloodstains have been cleaned up, along with the counters and stove. On the table is the meal he'd been preparing, two portions already put out with booze poured. The bloody karaage, rice, and whatever vegetables he could scrounge without going out, all in neat little dishes for the boys to eat. ]

[ Well. Majima sighs for the millionth time today, leaned against the open door frame. ]

Hungry?

[ Majima is not convinced that he is, this amount of irritation really just calls for cigarettes but he knows how Izo is. ]

[ The truth is no, he's not. He feels sick after all's said and done. This all also feels like a slap in his face, like it's meant as yet another slight to his pride. Spending so long starving in the streets, scrounging for scraps like a wild dog makes it extremely hard for him to turn down perfectly good food.

...

He doesn't have a choice here. He just shrugs again and wordlessly sits down at one of the set places. There's booze, at least, which is more so what he wants. Izō picks at his food like a sullen child.

All in all, a pathetic sight. ]
