wicked on the weekend (night parade PREP, a)
[ It takes a great deal of wrestling with a young youkai with fish's head to wrench the weapon from his grip. It had been obvious immediately, and she's already seen some similar things confiscated. For what reason, she's admittedly not very sure, and as far as she's concerned, it's not really her business. He had been carrying a staff of some sort, an unwieldy thing that collapsed into itself when handed over at Aerith's eager, chipper behest. She only needs to look busy, so the smile she wears is perhaps a dead giveaway.
She holds it up, that woody looking staff that smells slightly of river water and fish scales, inspecting it at eye level. It's dark in color, looks a bit like a twig, but is much heavier than it looks. Her fingers ghost along what feels like hard plastic when...
Hopefully you dodged, because it snaps open, a terribly sharp blade angled directly for her partner's face. Perhaps you got saddled with her of your own volition, or you thought she needed help. Maybe her light hearted approach to the situation has caught your attention, because this isn't the first time she's done this.
She immediately hands the staff back, blade still out. The youkai practically preens in response. ]
I think he can keep it.
[ Her assessment is simple. Why not, really? Maybe he'll need it. She's very, very sure of this decision, and looks to her partner with her fists upon her hips. Do you agree? Argue? Or maybe you should convince her that the two of you need the staff. (She would not disagree.) ]
can i get another amen? (night parade prep, b)
[ A case, woven from fine bamboo, is shoved into your face. The lid nearly topples off, and hangs by the neck of a bottle. It's full of them— alcohol resides inside, and they clink together enchantingly from within their bamboo-y prison. They're practically glimmering with the reflection from the neon lights. ]
Special delivery from Tamamo!
[ Her voice comes before Aerith peeks her face out from behind the case, waiting. ]
We've got more drink where that came from.
[ She waits more, still. Cat got your tongue, or maybe the bottles are just too pretty? ]
...Take it! [ This is the place that was expecting a delivery of spiked juice? ]
it's saturday night (sweet jacket)
No. [ Shaking her head, she continues in a frank tone. ] I don't think it's your jacket.
[ Aerith has a basket dangling from her elbow, stuffed with decorative flowers. Across the bridge is more businesses, and part of the parade route. A problem had presented itself to the pair of you on your way to deliver more decorations in the form of a young man wearing a rather trendy looking jacket. It certainly looks like it's Shuten's speed, from Aerith's cursory glances around the territory.
The man is unready to admit defeat to her simple, matter-of-fact statement. He shakes his head in disbelief, but it's hard to miss the crestfallen glint in his eyes. Aerith feels a twinge of regret, but better to hear it than keep believing it. Right? ]
Aaaand my lovely assistant, [ She turns to you, smiling cheekily. ] can explain to you why, can't you?
[ Her green gaze flicks to the river, where the water soaked visage of a goddess glowers at the trio of them. She gets the feeling she might have to run across this particular bridge from now on, if only by association...
Leaning in, Aerith whispers: ] Psst! Break it to him gently.
wildcard (closed prompts)
[ my ooc intro is here if you wanna plot something out more specific. i'm always happy to write a starter if someone contacts me for one, too! on the other hand, if you prefer to use my post, you're totally welcome to use this for a wildcard open. i'm also only a PM away, or contactable on plurk, listed above!

[ She immediately takes to leading the way to the back of the weapon checkpoint, where a youkai with many, many arms is handling some paper work.
...Aerith grunts with realization upon seeing him. ] We forgot to get a name... Well, I guess he really isn't going to be getting it back.
no subject
[ He follows after her, pausing every so often to look at the staff to make sure that the blade really won't suddenly snap out. ]
Right, and he's already been punished. There is no need to put his name to any list that they might have. [ It seems like the two of them are agreed on that front, or at least, he feels like he is with her. ] We'll say that we happened upon it.
[ Any questions that come after ... well ... Artemy's pretty good at playing dumb about things. ]
no subject
Maybe we shouldn't... check it in then?
[ What about just completely staying quiet about it? ]
It's not like I haven't seen something like this. I can definitely take care of it until we can give it back!
no subject
[ He gives a slight nod, deciding that maybe it would be good to keep.
It's agreed that he also has never seen a weapon quite like what they have acquired. Taking it back out, he looks it over carefully -- but also holds and treats it like it is something that will bite him if he is not careful. ]
Oka-- [ Artemy starts to hand it over to her before he pulls his hand back. ] What do you mean until we can give it back?
no subject
You don't want to? [ There's a little pout tugging at the corners of her mouth. Not displeasure, no, just guilt ghosting her features.
She holds her hand out, all the same. ]
Look, we can talk about it all you want, argue even, but either way, it'll still be with me until we finalize that decision.
[ In other words, as it is: Aerith intends to keep up the argument until the Night Parade. Oops. ]
no subject
[ Yet it seems like he won't get out of not giving it to her. He hears a tone that he's familiar with; if he wants a real fight on his hands, he'll argue about how it will be best in his care.
Artemy decides to pick and choose his battles -- for once. He carefully hands the weapon into her waiting hand. A grunt follows, which is obviously supposed to be, "Be careful with that." ]
It's good that you're willing to talk about it.
[ He pauses -- his mouth opens like he is going to say a name, but then he realizes that he doesn't know it. His eyes dart to the side; he has gone this far without knowing since he showed up to offer his assistance and didn't think much on introductions.
Clearing his throat, he adds: ]
Artemy.

Aerith!
[ Thank goodness some people recognize that she's a reasonable adult. ]
Of course we can talk about it. That just means you also have to be open to my side of the argument. Deal?
no subject
I can be bullheaded, but if you make a good point, you make a good point.
[ There are only a few people that he considers it best to close down all communication with, and she hasn't done anything to warrant that sort of reaction.
So, if she argues her case right, he may let the matter go completely. ]
You have yourself a deal, Aerith.
no subject
In that case, we can finish our debate the night of the parade. That sounds good to me, but what about you, Artemy?
no subject
[ Yet his tone sounds oddly fond, as he is too looking forward to talking to her in the future about the weapon in her possession. ]
That sounds fine to me.
[ A small nod. ] But until then, do you need someone to watch over you whilst you get more weapons from people?
no subject
That's a great idea! Better us than someone else, right? Gotta make sure everyone gets their stuff back eventually.
no subject
... it seems like we're going to be having multiple arguments during the Night Parade. I feel like I'm going to need to free up my evening to ensure I have enough time for them all.
[ Artemy can't help but joke, since he feels like some people probably could have their weapons back whilst others should not. It'd be difficult to decide which is which, so a marathon of "discussion" it is. ]
no subject
Yep! You'll have to clear your schedule to make room for... [ Leaning forward, she winks. ] Me! [ She's playing with him. ]
Hopefully it's not too much trouble. I guess we're not going to have all that much free time to mingle with the parade with all the work we're putting in, though.
no subject
[ He huffs a laugh through his nose.
But he does soon nod in agreement that he isn't certain how much free time that they shall actually have when the parade starts. They are doing the footwork to get it sorted out, but what will be asked of them during the day? ]
Isn't it odd that there are weapons at all to be collected before a party? Why do you think people are starting to arm themselves? [ Is this parade really a parade? ]
no subject
Well, we are in Hell. [ Perhaps that's merely part of the explanation. She knows from experience that crime breeds in places with governments that civilians grow distrustful of, or where the government stands to benefit from it. In this case, it might be both. ] Could be that... could be a combination of things— like, you know. A pot boiling over might be?
[ A sudden downpour of lost souls, split up across the clans. It's a recipe for trouble in her book. ]
no subject
[ He forgets sometimes that they're in Hell. It's because it feels far more organized than the Hell that he imagined. He frowns at nothing in particular, and shifts his glare to their surroundings. ]
It's easy to forget that's where we are when it looks so -- [ Well, not normal. He's never seen a place that looks like this, exactly. But there is something warm beneath all the violence. It's a place that wants to let him call it "home," and he's willing to listen to those words. ]
Still a parade and festival doesn't seem like it should warrant weapons.
no subject
It is. That's why I have to make sure everyone there is safe. [ The sincerity in her voice is blatant, but the melancholy in her expression is just as easy to read. ] I'll never forgive myself if something happens during it. They're hiding too much about it...
[ "I'm suspicious." ]
no subject
This is really the first time that he pauses to think as to what is really going on around them. He wanted to live and understand their culture, but Aerith is right; they're hiding a lot of what is happening. ]
There's no way to be prepared, but we'll do something if anything should happen.
[ He notes her sincerity and her expression. The melancholy is one that he wears himself. There is nothing that can be done to prevent tragedies from happening, but they can do something to help those caught up in it. ]
no subject
Right. I'll be right there with you, if it happens.
[ Clasping her hands together, she looks out into the crowd. ]
We could get back to work... or we could take a break, I guess! What are you in for?
no subject
To tell her to stay back, it would be too unfair. And there are too many things in the world that are unfair to add to them. ]
Good. The backup will be appreciated.
[ He pauses to follow her gaze. ]
Best not lose the momentum that we have. I feel we'll be intimidating and coercing quite a few people for the rest of the day.
