[After balancing their combined, very modest rookie budgets, Ydris came up with a suitable place to share with Junpei. It was about what they expected to get for their money- a slightly better part of the city than they had each on their own, a smaller space to share, but better amenities. The studio apartment was high up in the building- the elevator not always working, sorry Junpei, get fit- but with an all told attractive view. At least at night, with lights on. During the day it was mostly just overlooking dingy rooftops.
The main draw was it had a modest sized kitchen to work with. It wasn't too far from Junpei's theatre... if you didn't count the stairs. At least moving what they owned was easy, because they scarcely had anything between them. Ydris' tentacles easily float their few bags up the long climb to their door, the dragon unlocking it and standing aside for Junpei to go in first and take a look.]
The bed by the window is for you. I have that couch to settle on.
[just a few furnishings, but it was cozy enough. No kitchen table, but there was a counter with barstools to sit at. The main space has the bed shoved up beneath the window on the far end, fold up divider tucked against the wall. There's a clearly second hand couch and coffee table, nothing that would be comfortable for a person to sleep at long term, but this is Ydris. They won't mind it one bit.]
Just stopping by, no burdened emotions here For
pathofsacrifice
[With the new spot settled in to, Ydris stocked the kitchen as best they could plan and afford. It had become their goal to be as efficient as possible at preparing meals for those they cared about. It was absolutely necessary that anybody they looked after was well fed.
What kind of a miracle are they, if they can't do that much?
... They miss Artemy.
Had it been long since they'd seen him last? Not really-? Didn't matter. They gave him a call and gave clear directions on how to find their new apartment. The door would be left open for him. Ydris would be cooking, trying to perfect a few filling meals which easily fit into the boxes they had found for easily portable lunches. That can keep them busy. That can keep them from focusing on how eagerly they wait for him to appear. Just staying busy, absolutely not thinking about their own, ridiculous, fluttering anticipation whenever he said he was on the way.]

But he has missed them; he misses them like he misses his home. They have a familiar feeling to them that he wishes to take comfort in; to rest in and let himself be spoiled in all ways by the dragon.
And so when he is contacted to come to their new apartment; he feels a guilty sense of joy and happiness. The anger he has felt fades and he lets it simmer in the back of his mind. It will always be there for him to pull upon later; it is time to go see Ydris. He lets his mind be filled with their presence and wishes yet again he were a better man -- one worthy enough.
They say that he is, but that is their mercy and grace.
He carries with him an items that he thinks they will like. It is good to trade -- to give a little of himself -- and he knows that for Ydris that he would give them all if asked. What a terrifying idea. But it is one that also gives him a warm sense of comfort and safety.
The door opens and he steps into the apartment. He does not stop in the entrance but goes to locate where the nearest clock may be. Resting his hand on the clock, he does not know if anything happened but feels at ease in doing so. Breathing out, he steps away from the time piece and heads into the kitchen where Ydris is; his smile earnest and soft. ]
Thank you for having me.

Huh!]
Huh. [they say aloud just what crosses their mind, before perching wrists on their hips. The hands still attached to their main form turn outward, second set of ghostly ones behind them chopping away at some green onion.
They cannot help matching Artemy for that smile, mirroring completely thoughtlessly with their more impish grin]
What is that little ritual?
no subject
Time has meaning no matter the place. [ It seems like he is avoiding the question, but he continues: ] Should I die, this ritual -- [ He reaches his hand out to once more touch the surface of the microwave. ] -- it will let this be the place and time that I come back.
[ Artemy lets his hand drop down to his side. ] I don't touch clocks that often. But I thought this would be a place and time I would not mind reliving if I must. [ So, anyway! ]
I brought you something.
no subject
Let's try very hard not to have you die, Artemy... welcome as you'd be to come back here. [they'd probably demand it, if he died and could come back as stated. Ydris would absolutely be a fussy mess if anything happened to Artemy, let alone a return from death.
Funny enough, Ydris doesn't really linger long on the idea, whether or not it's actually possible is irrelevant to them. They are a sapient candle, judge all they might, this place has plenty of weirder things than the dragon and what they're used to...
As for something being brought for them, they put a hand to the countertop and glide themself, levitation aided, up to sit on the countertop. That puts them much more at Artemy's level, the man is just so tall! They offer that hand out afterward, eager to see whatever this gift is. It will be an exchange once Ydris finishes what they're cooking, which should be soon enough. Those extra, projected limbs of theirs means it's easy to socialize, while still multitasking]

[ His tone is both a little too grave and a little too light; he still walks back to lightly touch the microwave. Yes, he does not think that he will touch any other clock for awhile. This warm feeling -- and the warm feeling of being near Ydris -- is one he could happily relive to ease whatever ache death may bring.
Once done with completing the ritual a second time, he reaches into his bag to produce a candle -- but one that is scented. He saw it and thought of them; rather thought of all the feelings that he feels when he thinks of them. If he were to have it in his home, he fears he would get nothing done as he fills his mind and senses with Ydris.
A smile. ]
It apparently smells of autumn, of comfort, and home.
no subject
Bit soon to bring me a child, Artemy.
[They are, indeed, messing with him. Ydris is just so curious to see how he'll react, they watch intently with an impish, little smile, expecting he'll be aghast or reflexively laugh or fluster or maybe even take Ydris as serious as their tone pretended to be.
Just another little show of how enamoured they are with him, the desire to push his buttons and see what happens]
no subject
Seemed right since you already brought one.
[ Is it right to think of the young man that he has yet to meet as a son? More teasing than needs to be said, perhaps. But the person is of the Sutoku, and so for Artemy, no matter what, he will be as family.
Regardless of all those thoughts, however; he gives them a slight smile. ]
no subject
They get just distracted enough by that to hear Artemy's retort a bit delayed. They blink again, long and deliberate.
What does he mean-? Oh! Junpei! Of course, of course...]
Y, yes- well. As you say. Sutoku are your family. It's my duty to look after humans, as well- [train of thought, train of thought- they put the candle to their nose and breath in curious to the smell Artemy described, smiling at it] -have you meet Junpei, yet?
no subject
[ The way that they are distracted is endearing. He wonders what has caught their thoughts, and can only smile slightly at how they come back around to the conversation. ]
I have not. But if you have decided to live with them, I know I will care for them just as much as you do.
no subject
It also gathers their composure back, mirroring the little smile Artemy is giving them once more as they regard the candle fondly one more time before setting it safely aside.]
Thank you, Artemy. I would trust you to look after him well. He's a funny young man, not as stubborn as he lets on. [still fairly stubborn, but Ydris happens to adore stubborn types, it's not what they'd consider a flaw]
He wants people who can look after him, even if he doesn't think he needs that care. Or maybe... it's the other way around. [want and need are very dicey concepts to Ydris, they don't always get them prioritized quite right. Oh well. They can get better at it, just something more to learn]
no subject
It can't be love. It can be affection, maybe. Yes, affection for them doing things to appease his desire to make them happy. That is what it is.
He shakes his head when he is thanked, but continues to listen about Junpei. ]
I've met young men like that before. [ He thinks of Khan. He thinks of how he told him that he should have taken better care of him, and the immediate forgiveness that he was given. ] It may be both.
He has his future ahead of him. He has his contract to be fulfilled. We will do what we can to ensure that he sees the end of this, and finds his own happiness in the process.
no subject
It's likely very important to others here.]
He's very concerned with that. I'd rather help with his than garner my own reward, mine was appealed to me purely in vanity. It's not important. [they have no illusions of that, it's a selfish want, through and through. It may still be worth earning, but even their mixed up priorities would put Junpei's first.
And, perhaps, Artemy's-]
Might I ask, what was yours? Ah- and the food is nearly ready! Let me plate it while you talk... [they'll scoot a bit on the counter to where they can reach with their little extra ghost limbs. Things were cooking all while they talked, the benefit of having that upgrade to multitask with.]

Sitcom Opening
It’s nice ... but yeah, room dividers are something we should get soon.
[ He sits himself down on the edge of the bed to take a little rest, chest rising and falling with his breathing. ]
I guess it’s a good thing I only own a few clothes and not much else. Those stairs are going to take some getting used to.
no subject
This is what I managed to find for privacy. If there's a better alternative then we'll get to it... [as budget allows, since Ydris worked on a razor's edge to get the deposit and fees paid for moving them in, plus furnishings and some kitchen appliances that weren't included.
A rice cooker felt like a wise investment, given how all the food prep tutorials they watched on Helltube said it was the cheapest and easiest base for solid lunches. They also aren't very used to rice, it's not something they have room to grow in the Below Lands... They carry that in with a floating tentacle and set it on the kitchen counter.
The apartment is a pretty empty spot, but it's their's for now, huh? Feels a bit nice!]

He stares at the ceiling, deep in thought. It’s been a crazy couple months, with all kinds of emotions involved. Never had he thought he’d find comfort in hell - especially not with Ydris considering how annoyed he’d been with them on their first meeting.
But now he was attached to them. There was no denying it. He worried about them, and he enjoyed their company. It had soothed a part of him that had arrived in this world an absolute mess. Not that parts of him weren’t still a mess, but he was better off than if he were all alone.
After a few minutes of resting, he says out of nowhere: ]
... we need a TV.
no subject
Oh? What is a TV?
[they misses this bit of tech, skipped right over it]
no subject
[ He gestures to show what a modest TV set’s screen size would be. ]
I’d use it to watch movies at home if I can’t watch them in the theater. It’s not as good but sometimes things aren’t showing in a theater anywhere and you have to settle.
[ No need to describe like news or sports or whatever. He wouldn’t need it for that. ]
no subject
[that is to say, if Junpei wants one, Ydris will help him get one! Once!! They have everything more responsibly settled in... priorities are sometimes on Ydris' mind. Their #1 is feeding Junpei and whoever else they can.]
no subject
[ Working at the theater means he can see movies for free or very cheap often, which is absolutely something he will and has already taken full advantage of. It more than fulfills his movie habit. Between that and Ydris feeding him saving up isn’t out of the realm of possibility. ]
I’ll do what I can to bring more money in. Hopefully with two of us it won’t be tight for long.

[
if this is all backdated, does this still count as foreshadowing?Ember is almost ready at this point, ready to invade the phones of unsuspecting Lost Souls. Ydris is hoping someone ends up impressed with their gusto and... lets call it ingenuity, sure]Another one for @ahost
Or, relative solitude, now that the dragon was insistently floating around the space between their own work for the Alliance. Junpei was staying late at the movie theatre, but his friend Yuuji was going to stop by to grab some food, as prepared by Ydris. Taking full advantage of that, they had multiple things out to taste test when he arrived to sit at the counter and await being fed.
Deviled eggs and seasoned rice, egg fried rice, egg filling rice balls, omarice- okay, yeah, it's a lot of variation on the same thing, but Ydris did their best to give it all variety of flavor! There's different seasoning methods for each, nothing is bland. It's also all cheap and easy to make quickly and in large quality.
Which, speaking of, there's like four plates put in front of the young man. This has turned into another "too much" situation, hasn't it?]
... I overdid it again, didn't I... Well. Try to try everything. [or have a very, very filling evening meal! Up to Yuuji's appetite, now.]
no subject
[ he really should feel bad for taking advantage of someone who is trying to be kind, but honestly? if ydris is so willing, why deny them the joy of making a poor human happy? isn't it selfish to take that away from them? it sure is. so, really, yuuji is being helpful by eating all this free food.
he just came from an all-nighter shift, way too tired and fucking starving. he settles down in front of all those nicely prepped dishes, rubbing his hands together before picking up a spoon; smiling. ]
Do you usually give Junpei this amount of food every day? If so, he's super lucky.
no subject
As for Junpei, I would, but he complains it is too much. Which... is understandable. If it would go to waste then I failed in my goal. [they're trying for efficiency, now! No or very little waste! It'll be a lot easier now with a full kitchen and fridge, at least.]
no subject
[ damn you, junpei! why are you ruining a good thing? itadori was already halfway through chewing the first bite, so he held his finger up; gesturing 'hold on for a second!' — and once he's done, now back to defending his new source of free food. he's holding on to it with his bare claws. ]
You failed nothing! You're making the right amount of meals. Junpei is just ... a small human? Way too skinny so he doesn't eat much! Maybe give him half a sandwich, but ... this is good for me!
no subject
Feeding humans is so contradictory! I clearly lived too long with that pigman, he could eat a season's harvest and not be sated. Junpei eats hardly a thing and you will have four plates, yet you are younger. I have so much to learn-
[just eat your four varieties of egg and rice, bud. Ydris is going off, but listening to them isn't important. They just want a thumbs up on the taste of everything, which is all delicious despite the limited ingredients.]
