This is a post to facilitate shenanigans regarding the Underground turf war! Feel free to park your toplevels below and tag around!

Summary of what’s going on:
The Underground is the network of subterranean utility / sewer tunnels under the city, previously held by the Kappa tribe. After the April 2022 Event, the Underground has been cleared out by the Department of the Enma and is now mostly unattended.

The Tamamo Clan and Shuten Clan have received orders from their leaders to take over the Underground. Unfortunately, there's two of them and only one Underground, so the two clans are fighting over it. (Tamamo Meeting Log) (Shuten Meeting Log)

The Sutoku Alliance is not willing to fight for the territory, but are intending to work out a deal with whoever wins the turf war to get the kappa back to work. The Department of the Enma is also more interested in investigating the Daitengu’s assassination than the turf war, but that means their Lost Souls can bring popcorn and watch the show. I can’t either.

[ Which apparently doesn’t matter; the man is already lunging, aiming for a patch where Chongyun’s ice hasn’t crept. The young exorcist huffs, warm breath a white puff against the sharp chill in the hallway.

Closer is bad. Brow furrowing, he quickly taps his Vision before spilling some water from a water bottle. Another spike of cold turns the splash into a snowball that he chucks at Sheliak. Go away!

Avoiding direct confrontation would be nice, even if he is prepared for it. ]

Then it seems we are at an impasse.

[If Chongyun wasn't an ice mage Sheliak might have tried to negotiate more but he couldn't risk losing more ground to his annoying ice while they talked. Sheliak's eyes narrowed as he watched Chongyun freeze the water into a snowball which he attempted to slice apart with his sword. Maybe if he could get that artifact away from him, Chongyun wouldn't be able to freeze anything.]

[ Chongyun's gaze narrows as the stranger comes closer. Clicking his tongue, he prepares for direct engagement, though he's kind of hoping this guy will slip and land on his butt. There's plenty of ice around now, even more with how the pipes have leaked... and it's chilly. Every breath is a pinch in the lungs.

Unwilling to give up, he pelts a few more snowballs at Sheliak. He's still trying to dissuade him, but if it comes to combat, he won't stand down. ]

It seems we are. Unless you change your mind.

[Distracted by the fighting, Sheliak didn't hide his small shiver as the room got annoyingly colder. This is why he didn't want to prolong the fight and a hint of his frustration slipped into his voice as he sliced away another snowball.]

You're welcome to change your mind as well.

[The cold was starting to slow him down and he winced when the last snowball slipped past his sword and hit him in the face, causing him to blindly stumble back towards a patch of ice. Him slipping and falling on his butt might not be that far off.]

[ Chongyun notices the shivering. It's cold, and the natural dampness of the underground only adds another bite of chill to the air. He exhales himself, a puff of white air on the trail of that breath. ]

It's cold for you, isn't it? You'll be warmer topside.

[ As another snowball flies toward Sheliak's face. He can't keep this up forever, the power of his Vision still limited, so he can only hope the man gives up because it's too frosty for his liking quickly. ]

[Sheliak didn't appreciate Chongyun trying to exploit his weakness and he stubbornly pushed past the cold long enough to properly focus on slicing apart the next snowball. His swing was a bit more aggressive as he hid his anger in his strike and a smug scoff.]

I can handle a little co-

[Sheliak tensed slightly as he slipped a little on some ice. Not enough to fall, and hopefully not noticeably. He carefully his his second of panic under a calm voice.]

[Chongyun didn't see anything.]

[ More snowballs, more snowballs!

Chongyun can’t hold out like this much longer—his powers are already slipping—but the closer Sheliak comes, the bigger he gets. It isn’t that he’s wary of larger opponents per se … but the guy is a Shuten, and many of the exorcist’s powers are still sealed.

Just like, go sliding back down the hallway, won’t you?

Chongyun chucks another big snowball with particular vigor. ]

How about a lot of cold?
