This is a post to facilitate shenanigans regarding the Underground turf war! Feel free to park your toplevels below and tag around!

Summary of what’s going on:
The Underground is the network of subterranean utility / sewer tunnels under the city, previously held by the Kappa tribe. After the April 2022 Event, the Underground has been cleared out by the Department of the Enma and is now mostly unattended.

The Tamamo Clan and Shuten Clan have received orders from their leaders to take over the Underground. Unfortunately, there's two of them and only one Underground, so the two clans are fighting over it. (Tamamo Meeting Log) (Shuten Meeting Log)

The Sutoku Alliance is not willing to fight for the territory, but are intending to work out a deal with whoever wins the turf war to get the kappa back to work. The Department of the Enma is also more interested in investigating the Daitengu’s assassination than the turf war, but that means their Lost Souls can bring popcorn and watch the show. [ Izō huffs as he shoves more noodles in his mouth. ]

[ Rude as the comments may be and completely unsolicited, all the man will receive from Xingqiu is a polite smile. He acknowledges the words, nothing more, there is no need for him to make any unpleasant comments, especially within a peaceful setting. Lowering the phone he has been looking at, it is slowly put away. ]

Shall I take that to mean your endeavors have gone well? As opposed to me, then you must have been quite occupied?

[ From his vantage it appears that someone got into more than they could bargain for. There is a man next to him covered in blood and from the visible bruises, Xingqiu is going to assume not all that blood comes from enemy combatants. Of course, he won't bring any of that up but his sympathy is draining. ]

Yes, of course, I am aware that one faction will come out victorious. Well, shall I take a guess as to which clan you belong to?

[ He got into exactly the amount of trouble he wanted to. Most of the blood of his clothes is not his own, just the little trickle coming from his temple, mostly obscured by his unruly hair. It's not like Izō seeks the sympathy of strangers, anyway. ]

[ He's got a Shuten pin visible on the neckback of his kimono. Well, that and he looks like he's been doing nothing but fight. ]

Ya ain't with us...If ya were, ya woulda been down there, too.

[ Darkening crimson stains, dark blemishes across flesh, a man born for battle. If that isn't enough, the bright pin bound to cloth all signals the correct answer to Xingqiu. It's a conscious choice and effort to deliver the incorrect reply to a question that likely wasn't needing any response.

A sigh. And what follows is his ramen bowl being pushed away. ]

You're correct on one point, but I am not with the other clan either. That place I know it.

[ Izō contemplates the risk versus reward of punching a stranger at a ramen stand for disrespecting him.

Reward: unlikely he'll ever talk shit about Izō again.
Risk: Starting a larger brawl and drawing unwanted attention to his faction.
Reward: reinforcing the strength of the Shuten Clan.
Risk: underestimating this stranger's ability, potential for getting in over his head is high.

...

Nah. He'll settle for leaning in with a nasty sneer. ]

Then ya ain't my problem...yet. Better keep it that way if ya know what's good for ya.

[ The stand is livelier than on most nights, with many of those taking risks in the underground now slinking out in search of repose and a warm meal, well they're not alone. Yet despite the noise around them, it almost feels as silent as the stillness that falls between them.

He doesn't need that sinister leer to know he has struck a nerve. Not everyone can take a joke.

Xingqiu looks up through lashes, a pretty face will get him nowhere here nor any polished manners which were dropped in favor of taking that light jab. He doesn't mirror the sneer, instead, he offers an airy smile. ]

Then shall we hope to never cross paths again? For my sake of course.

But you know, nothing is more unattractive than a man without a capacity for humor.

[ Those would be his parting words. He's done eating anyway. ]

[ Izō doesn't let him go that easily. He grabs a hold of Xingqiu's arm and gets up in his face. ]

Ya better hope ya never see me again or my sense'a humor'll be th' last thing on yer mind.

[ And then Izō lets him go with a little more force than necessary. ]

[ If he hoped to keep Izō at length then he would be disappointed, his arm held captive left little choice in the matter. Hardly shifting expression, a smile can still be traced upon his face although this time far more formal than it previously was. His free hand is held behind his back, although no weaponry could be found in his possession. His gaze doesn't waver as he meets the other's eyes.

Then a warning, and he is roughly released. It doesn't take much to regain balance and it's then he offers a nod. ]

Understood.

[ He knows the words for what they are, now whether he will heed them is a different matter. ]
