This is a post to facilitate shenanigans regarding the Underground turf war! Feel free to park your toplevels below and tag around!

Summary of what’s going on:
The Underground is the network of subterranean utility / sewer tunnels under the city, previously held by the Kappa tribe. After the April 2022 Event, the Underground has been cleared out by the Department of the Enma and is now mostly unattended.

The Tamamo Clan and Shuten Clan have received orders from their leaders to take over the Underground. Unfortunately, there's two of them and only one Underground, so the two clans are fighting over it. (Tamamo Meeting Log) (Shuten Meeting Log)

The Sutoku Alliance is not willing to fight for the territory, but are intending to work out a deal with whoever wins the turf war to get the kappa back to work. The Department of the Enma is also more interested in investigating the Daitengu’s assassination than the turf war, but that means their Lost Souls can bring popcorn and watch the show. [ She is a pretty girl in a combat situation. She is aware of any and all possibilities that may befall her. They won't stop her, but she's certainly aware of it. ]

Thank you for the advice, Majima-san. I'll try to keep it in mind.

[ This is... so awkward, especially because there's so much that she wants to say... but not to this Majima. Then again, she's got a lot she'd like to say to this one too, given what she knows about him. None of it is suitable for the moment, but it's still shuffling around inside her chest. ]

Are you- have you had anything to eat today?

We have not.

[ Majima makes a noise of annoyance when the snake pipes up, rolling his good eye up. ]

Do ya think about anythin' other than food?

Liquor, sometimes sex.

[ Majima puts a hand to his forehead, shaking his head in exasperation. ]

[ She stares at the snake with curious delight before shaking it off and moving to take one of the straps off her bag so she can pull it forward. She feels better now, since she can offer something to Majima in exchange. That's why, a moment later, she's holding out a water bottle with clean fresh water and a bento box. ]

You won't help your family if you're weak from hunger or thirst, Majima-san. Here.

[ He purses his lips. She should not be running around giving out lunches to the enemy. That's a quick way to get in trouble with the boss. Maybe his too. ]

Yes, very good.

[ The snake is slightly visible to those inclined to see it, a spirit wrapped around him, in him, through him. They're a knot that can no longer be separated. ]

All right, thanks.

[ He gives in with weary acceptance. He's not going to fight a girl over trying to be nice. Although he supposes those Tamamos could have sent her out acting cute just to drug this food. He's really not in the mood to be that cynical about it though. ]

Just don't be lingerin' around down here.

[ He shouldn't be handing the enemy weapons. They're both breaking rules a little for this parlay. ]

Like I said, I'm just passing through.

[ She gives him a bright winning idol smile. ]

Don't worry about returning the box to me. You can keep it.

[ He frowns a little more, ]

Nah, c'mon let's go.

[ They can leave the tunnels, he can rest assured she's not skulking around, and he'll eat the stupid thing and hand the box right back. ]

[ She... hadn't expected that. But she frowns at Majima and glances around. ]

I don't want you to get in trouble for protecting me, Majima-san. That doesn't protect either of us.

Then we better not get caught, huh.

[ He motions with his hand and turns back up the tunnel he'd come form. ]

...you're not going to take 'no' for an answer, are you?

Nope.

[ He agrees shortly. ]

Come along, girl.

[ She indulges in a bit of an eyeroll and nods as she follows along with him, glancing at the snake. After a yard or so- ]

So is your friend... I don't want to be insulting, but I assume he's not a pet?

[no_kyouken]

He's a yokai.

I am Chijoku, of the Uwabami tribe.

[ The snake's name means 'Disgrace'. Less because he is considered one, and more because Disgrace is powerful. ]

I'm possessed.

You needn't sound so sour, Majima. We are doing quite well for ourselves.

Yeah, yeah.

[ Curious, taking it in, frowning a little as she considers the idea. ]

Is it nice, always having a friend with you like that?

[ The snake laughs, a whispery sound like paper. Majima frowns slightly. ]

Somethin' like that.

[ The snake does keep him together, in an existential way that's hard for him to put into words. He has more strength to go on than he did before. He hasn't completely lost his mind, although there are fractures that he's aware of. His weekend out as Goromi had made that clear. ]

[ There's silence to fill.]

Even if there was a downside, I think it might be nice. I don't really like being on my own. A single person can make all the difference.

[ That's why she's here, after all. ]

They possessed us t'eat us, take us over.

But I did not. They produce much better long term energy if you allow them to live.

[ Without acknowledging this, Majima jogs up some stairs, pushing open a door that leads out onto the low path along the river. ]

So it's just about energy... and survival?

[ The first is addressed to the snake, the second to Majima. ]

Wasn't gonna survive on my own.

[ He has nothing to fight yokai with, Hakagemachi would have killed him easily. ]

Coincidentally, neither was I. Enough chatter, sit and eat.

Shuddup...

[ But Majima does still sit down in the grass that leads up the slope to the street. Better to feed the snake before it takes over and feeds itself. ]
