What makes it difficult, if you don't mind my asking? I'm used to getting summoned to weird places and times but I hear the "everybody's dead now" theory more and more often.

I suppose that's technically true. I've more or less just thought of it as a world all its own because of how it is around here — some souls might come here in death but everyone else like the youkai are just living their lives.

Summoning is how Heroic Spirits are given physical forms in one way or another, so to a Servant it's pretty central to everything. To everyone else? The majority of people are gonna look at you crazy if you suggest magic is really real and not everyone who has magical ability can even use it.
