He tugs at one of his sleeves, pulling it over his wrist and frowns at one of the cuts in the cloth. It's still nicer than the clothes he normally wears back home for missions.)

... 'M not used to people looking at me. (Before he came to the citadel, he largely minded his own business and did his own assignments without much help from others. Even at the citadel, he was left alone by most of them; not out of disdain or anything but because of a mutual understanding that they can't control the stories they inherit and Hizen's is a poor and bloodstained one. The best thing they could do was not mention it, let it be, and help him find a better story with his new life among them.) Most people just leave me alone.

'S not like I'm supposed to look nice or anything either.

I mean, you don't gotta look nice usually, sure. But doesn't it piss you off?

(Does it? He thinks about the question and his answer. He knows what it feels like to be pissed off. Everyone knows how short his temper is and how easy it is to rile him up. When he thinks about what others might think about him, he feels that spike of irritation that makes him defensive but it's... different from being outright mad. There's always that underlying tiredness, a sense that it isn't even really worth getting angry in the end. )

... I dunno. (He's bad with feelings. He's bad at words. He's bad at expressing himself.) Don't really care, I guess.

(If it isn't enough to want to fight or yell, then it's nothing, right?)

Got other things to deal with.

[He shrugged his shoulders with that. Taking a moment to enjoy the walk in silence. It wasn't that there wasn't a lot going on in his mind with a response like that, more as he wanted to take a moment to let it simmer in.]

I don't know. I enjoy looking my damn best whenever the opportunity arises, specifically for those reasons you don't.

[Because he would always get so messed up and be in situations where nice clothes would otherwise not last. Because most people had the habit of not noticing him.

Or-- Perhaps 'not noticing' wasn't the right way to phrase it...]

Sometimes, it's nice to look good. To stand out and be looked at positively. But that's just my own damn opinion, I guess.
