[Tamamo Clan members will receive a message asking for a meeting at the Scarlet Lotus, a classy restaurant-and-bar in the heart of Tamamo territory. Injured members can phone in via videocall. Try not to be late, there’s much to discuss.]

it's clear that there's something really bothering him, especially to those who know him well, and after awhile, he suddenly speaks up with a question that's been on his mind since the assassination. Like most of his questions during conferences like this, it might sound utterly insane but he also has his reasons for raising the subject.
"Do we have confirmation that the Daitengu is actually dead?"
The question comes out soft and deeply serious, even strangely pained. But given his own history and manner of maneuvering through politics, he can't help but be suspicious.
"The points about an unseen enemy and the clans being baited into conflict with one another are interesting, don't you think?"

[ Musashi had her own doubts, but she also didn't have enough information to suggest otherwise. ]
The whole point of the Daitengu is that it can be anybody, but it doesn't make the death of someone behind that mask inconsequential, if it wasn't planned for. Even if it was a body double, that's still someone they have to bury, you know?
[ Death shouldn't be taken so lightly, she thought. Even if they were technically in Hell. ]
As for the other thing... [ She sips her drink, letting out a thoughtful hum. ]
That just means we need to be extra careful to make sure we don't suffer any losses during this conflict. We have to be prepared in case those assassin guys make a target of Tenko-hime.

I agree. Regardless of who it was, someone still lost their life. Every life has value on the battlefield. If Tenkohime was to be targeted, our clan would be left in disarray and ourselves at a disadvantage. And if we place ourselves on the front lines unnecessarily, we would be putting her at a disadvantage.
[He pauses to take a sip of his wine before continuing.]
We're useless to her if we're dead or incapacitated. The further we're away from the front lines, the better. I've taken down more dangerous leaders than Toraguma myself back home without ever touching a sword. On my own, no less.
[Another sip of his wine. In fact, Huaisang's fairly confident he could accomplish this task on his own, too, if he put his mind to it but where's the fun in that?]
All we have to do is outsmart them, maintain awareness of our limits, and get creative about working within them. I doubt a buffoon like Toraguma has the intellectual capacity or imagination to contend with a single one of us, much less all our wits combined.

If I'm correct... Onmyouji are spiritual magicians and exorcists? Not terribly unlike what I and others of my occupation are in some aspects. It's possible that I might be able to figure out how to use these spiritual tools or create some of my own with proper materials...
[He trails off and sighs.]
It takes proper study, training, and innate spiritual power in order to use them. They won't work on their own and some tools can only be wielded by their specific master. The sabers the sect I lead back home are such a weapon. And even if we had time for me to start teaching you all that I know, none of you would be able to use them without spiritual powers of your own. And my own power is sealed.
[Another sigh but then he brightens. A solid strategy is starting to form in his mind.]
It's possible that an onmyouji might be able to use a maze array in our stead if they know the pattern. However, it might not be necessary. As Jin Guangyao said, splitting into coordinated groups and spreading out is our best option here. All I need are some volunteers willing to take on a few assigned tasks from me. The timing and specific logistics of how they're carried out, I'll leave up to you.
[He thinks it would be a good learning experience for them, teacher of disciples that he is.]

[ She shuddered. The less said about Ashiya Douman, the better. That guy... there was just something unshakingly evil about him. Tenkohime, thankfully, did not give her those same vibes. ][ ]
But no matter what work they do, I know they use spiritual and astrological energy to do what they do. You could call it sorcery, I suppose, but it's a useful tool and we should definitely make use of it...
[ But then she realizes what he said. ]
W-wait, don't leave that kind of thing to me! I may have read books on military tactics, but that doesn't mean I'm prepared to play that role! [ Not like this, at least... ]

[Nie Huaisang laughs lightly, eyes twinkling a bit impishly. This task would be much easier to carry out if he could hand off those insisting on fighting to a tactician who knew what they were doing. That way he could focus his own efforts on planning out the diversion.]
I know what it's like to have my hand forced into performing tasks that were beyond me. However, it did push me to find my own path and discover what my true talents were.
[He sits pondering, cheek in hand.]
What tactics are you most familiar with? That you have the most confidence in using or teaching to others if I were to give you a role? I'll split the bonus with everyone who helps me. If we don't succeed, well, I'll owe you a favor.

Then you know what to do in the heat of battle. The Shuten Clan is very strong. On my first day here, one of them struck me down and injured me.
[He'll leave out the part where he was crying and wailing about the pain. Or when Julieta rescued him and princess carried him to safety.]
I've been healing ever since. Even now, I'm still recovering. But we still have work to do.
[And he's been working as best he can. He helped the tailors prepare for the Night Parade, introducing a variety of new fashion trends, and did everything he could think of to fill his partner card at the bathhouse.]
I can't lead the fighters into battle. I can't even accompany them right now. But I can create diversions to confuse the enemy and weaken their leader's morale. It may give others the edge they need to take the Underground.

[It's nice to meet someone who does. He's unsure if the others talking about fighting understand their own limits or the potential danger they will be placing themselves and Tenkohime in if they aren't careful.]
Just do what you can. If I'm able to, I'll send what reinforcements I can find to you as soon as I can. The prize might need to be split a few more ways but it'll increase the probability of success.
[Besides a good general doesn't ignore the troops injuries, no matter how ruthless Nie Huaisang can be. But he wouldn't ask if he didn't have faith that she was smart enough to play it safe which she seems to be.]
Just remember: there's more than one way to win a battle and swords aren't always necessary. Neither is force.

Trust me, I know. The duel begins the moment it's declared, and any tactic that leads to victory is fair, right?

[He'd bitten his tongue when Tenkohime issued her orders to the clan but her leadership approach didn't quite sit right with him. She seems reckless to him, pushing forward to claim the Underground when they barely know each other as a group. Inciting competition so carelessly will only weaken the clan and halt its progress.]
Two groups of fighters might do the trick. One lures the Shuten into the deeper levels by feigning weakness while another ambushes them from behind. Three would be ideal in case the Shuten brings reinforcements of their own and they need to be trapped, too.

That's a good idea. Weaponizing our weaknesses makes it more difficult for the enemy to use them against us. They can't exploit what we're already exploiting ourselves.
