HANAMI - FUN

[ taking a break from all of the work is nice. dimitri is excited about the prospect of flower viewing, and has even brought his own rug to sit on for the occasion. he's got a jacket as well as snacks that he's bought from various vendors, and a thermos of tea. that he had found his beloved chamomile tea here is lovely. ]

If you're not too busy, why not take a break? Let's enjoy each other's company.

( it's not as though it's a particularly terrible thing, to be patrolling the grove. at the very least, it gives him something to do, and more than that, at least it's a beautiful place--it reminds him of home in a way that's almost calming.

but should he really be slacking off? the man that speaks to him looks comfortable, perched on a rug beneath a particularly beautiful tree; kyojuro's smile tugs, spreading a little, and with a brief laugh, he plants his hands on his hips. )

Well! It's important to take breaks, especially for the sake of treats.

( there's a small nod to the collection of snacks that dimitri has, spread out near him--kyojuro doesn't sit, but comes to crouch outside the rug that he's on, polite as he looks from the spread to the man it belongs to. )

This one - I've been enjoying it lately. The texture is quite interesting.

[ dimitri produces a small container of mitarashi-dango. he opens it to offer the other skewer to him. ]

Have a taste.

( he is, of course, always game to try new food, but this one, happily, is quite familiar to him.

with a small nod of his chin, he reaches to take the skewer from the package; he cleanly works one of the dango off the stick. )

...Delicious! ( --declared in a loud, happy voice, with the dango pushed into his cheek. ) This isn't the kind of food you're used to?

Not quite. I don't think we'll ever have the climate for rice. Faerghus is too cold for it.

Wheat tends to be a staple, and other hardier vegetables.

[ he watches him eat with exuberance, and he just smiles as he takes a bite more. ]

Do you have any favourites so far? [ from what's sold around the stalls, from what he's sampled in the restaurants here and there. ]

HADAKA MATSURI - FUN

[ dimitri, having survived the mass of sweaty bodies and obtaining a fortune for himself, stares as his own says great curse. ]

... that can't be good. What did you get? [ he frowns. ] Surely this is just superstition?

[silentscout]

[Lalli holds up his own fortune slip so Dimitri can see. "curse".

Lalli looks distressed over this.]

I don't know any spells to change luck.

[stubboarn]

Ah, you too? ... well it seems mine is worse. At least you're not alone in that regard.

[ it's ok, the two of them can vibe in distress. ]

Does it change a thing if we take another fortune? It's still going on and the night is young.

[silentscout]

No, you can't keep drawing until you get good fortune. Only the first one works.

[Welp. They will have to deal with their bad luck somehow.]

As long as the misfortune does not manifest as death, it will be fine.

Yes, but death isn't the worse thing to happen to anyone. [ hm. ]

... and are you sure? I didn't read anything about that kind of rule.

[ it sounds correct, but who's to say that that's the case, really? it doesn't seem like there's thought being put into the fortunes as they just keep tossing it to the crowd. ]

Wait here. I will try and see if I can get something else.

[ he will definitely brave the masses of sweaty bodies to get another fortune. ]

Death is not the worst thing, no. But death is irreversible.

[Go brave those sweaty bodies, Dimitri. Lalli will perch himself on a bench and just wait. He's not going back into that crowd, nope.]

OTHER FESTIVITIES - SUMO

[ in truth, he doesn't really care about the reward. but it's been a while since he's gotten competitive, so when the opportunity arrived, dimitri is all over it. he's a jock, after all.

for a boy he's quite built. stepping into the ring, he gives an easy smile to his opponent. ]

Lovely to meet you. Let's begin, shall we?

HANAMI - GLUM - CLOSED TO CASTMATES + 2 MAX NON-CASTMATE

[ dimitri, having grown tired of sitting and eating under the cherry trees, walks further into the grove and appears transfixed as he stares in the dark. ]

I - know. It is - less than ideal. That I am here is unacceptable -

[ he stops. there's a tense moment of silence when he clearly hears who's coming and his head tilts to the side to hear; all pretence of the good prince gone, he looks suspicious and angry, frustrated, perhaps, at having been interrupted.

strange. there doesn't seem to be anyone around for him to talk to. rather curtly, ]

... did you need something?

[ Well, arriving here is the hard part. Felix still remains himself and even Hanami can't exactly change that to make himself seemingly less pleasant. But, it's not difficult to catch the blond around heading off, and for a moment he scoffs at the sight. Yet, his feet take him to follow regardless because he wants to follow Dimitri. It's not just the effects of the food that compel him either, and he hears the boar prince, talking to...the air. ]

To satisfy my curiosity, as unfortunate as that will be.

[ He raises his chin. ]

Who do you think you were speaking to before I arrived, boar?

[stubboarn]

... you are mistaken.

[ he says it stiffly, and refuses to elaborate.

it's not the first time such stories abound regarding the prince, since his return from duscur, and his word is normally enough to dissuade someone who asks considering his noble background. but felix of all people wouldn't care for such things, and felix of all people would be suspicious considering he knows him all too well.

or perhaps 'used to know' is how he would say it. ]

[ Felix is indeed suspicious of such things, and it is true that from the crown prince, most people may find themselves willing to back down or go elsewhere to halt their prodding.

However, the raven-haired male is just simply not the type. ]

What, do you think I've suddenly gone deaf now? I know what I heard.

So, why are you trying to bother hiding it?

[ His brows furrow, expression more or less showing his usual brand of irritability. ]

[stubboarn]

I am not hiding anything. [ a pause, and then dimitri adds, ] This kind of talk isn't for you, as well.

[ he doubts felix will believe him if he says it, but if he also says that he's been hearing all of their voices - all of them, since duscur, asking for salvation, asking for revenge - he doubts that he will believe him, or the weight it's put on him since that day. ]

[ Felix just lets out a scoff, as if he can't believe what is hearing right about now. This isn't something he's about to let go so easily.

And not for the first time in his life he's wondering what the hell the boar is even thinking. It'd be one thing if he caught someone else trying to obscure their presence nearby, but that's just not the case here. ]

You're saying you're not hiding anything and yet you also said this talk isn't for me. Do you really take me for that much of a fool?

NIGHT PARADE - GLUM - ASSASSINATION

[stubboarn]

[ it started with the steam. smoke billowing too much in the dark. dimitri coughs in the middle of it, and crouches low immediately as he hears the screams. it's hard to look at anything despite the dark, and he isn't armed in a way that he normally would be.

amidst the chaos people start fighting, inevitably. dimitri draws his weapon and immediately knocks someone out cold when he feels the attack coming his way. he gently sets the person away from the crowd, to a street lamp at the corner, before he hears more awful screams. the daitengu! they all say. dimitri runs towards the stage. strange figures in black rush through the crowd, weaving effortlessly like ghosts move past until they reach their target -

- when all is said and done, the daitengu is on the stage floor, clearly not moving, and he doubts that he will, anymore. ]

What - did they just - [ now of all times? and with people around who could easily get hurt. how despicable. ]

KAPPA ROUND UP - POST-ASSASSINATION - OTA

[stubboarn]

[ following the orders of the enma, dimitri marches out from the armoury with the lance most prominent of the weapons he'd taken in his hand: its length means that he can easily whack others with it where necessary, and kappa in particular aren't really that much of a deal when it comes down to it.

while dimitri is firm with them, he's not ruthless. anyone who resists is silenced enough by a twist of the arm.

there are, however, more efficient ways of dealing with them. as he shoves a kappa into one of the vans they're interring them in, a thought occurs to him - ]

Kappa are river creatures, aren't they? There are likely more to find near the water. There are businesses near the waterfront that are supportive of the Alliance - we should make sure to check them.


ooc. you can confront him about it as well, i'm fine with that too.

[playfoul]

[ If it were up to Yuri, the Alliance would be the ones handling the Kappa's questioning and all decisions regarding their fate. No one had more right to answers after what had befallen the Daitengu, and it's become plain the Kappa didn't really have answers at all. But in the absence of a leader to challenge the Enma's decree, the terror-struck Kappa have fled, time is being wasted chasing them, and nobody is closer to the truth.

Yuri finds Dimitri busy scruffing a Kappa with the same ease he demonstrated that day on security detail. He doesn't draw attention to himself until the van door has swung shut. ]

Hey, lion prince. I heard you have marching orders. Got a minute to talk?

[stubboarn]

[ he frowns at yuri, but he pauses his work to address him. ]

You heard correctly.

What is this about? [ his voice turns a little stern. ] I hope you're not here to cause trouble.

[playfoul]

Relax. If I were planning to cause trouble, I wouldn't announce myself beforehand.

[ He'd sneak by when no one's looking and unlatch the van doors or something, but that wouldn't achieve much in the long run. The only thing that would help the Kappa now is to convince the Enma the real blame lay elsewhere. So Yuri's not here to stem the flood of arrests. He's not even armed, and he holds out both his hands to show it. ]

How much have you heard from the kappa you're rounding up?

[stubboarn]

[ perhaps it's just as well that yuri isn't a lion because they would have. many chapters ago, with the bulk of them not having a sneaky bone in their body.

in any case he just shakes his head at yuri's question. ]

Not much. So far, the ones we have taken are just as surprised as we are regarding the incident, and have no knowledge of the actual assassins who carried out the deed.

But it is still early on in the campaign.

[ he lowers his voice for yuri. ] There are serious repercussions for harbouring the Kappa. While I understand they are part of the Alliance, it cannot be helped that the gaze of the Enma is on them. They have a part to play here as well.

Sympathy is easy to garner, but the fact is that your faction leader is dead and people are hurt. Order must be restored.

[ and while dimitri doesn't like the warring factions because it reminds him too much of the worst aspects of home, this, he understands. there are people hurt, a leader is dead - and things could've gotten worse. no, it will not stand. ]
